Remember Phil, the Gods do not deduct from a man's allotted span the hours spent fishing. You're just a kid! Happy Birthday!!

Lilley's Lake Taneycomo fishing report, June 4
Stevan replied to Phil Lilley's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
Hey Phil; Any chance for an updated 'How to Boat to the Dam' thread? -
Looks like a great time! Thanks for the report and photos.

Thanks for the report and photos. Looks like you had a great time! How far above the jig do you place the float?
-
Great report and photos. Thanks. Hope it's that good when we head down in June!

Wow! Great fish. Congrats, and thanks for releasing it.

Nice report! Thanks for the info.

Hey Phil; I'm sure this flood, like the last, will change a lot of the lake characteristics especially from your place up to the cable. For the sake of props and lower units, I'm hoping that in the near future you might be able to give us an updated 'How to Boat to the Dam' tutorial. Your last one was worth its weight in gold. Hope to see you all very soon for a winter trout trip.

Some of the best fishing I have ever had was several years ago when they were generating three or four under the dam, and five over the top. We boated up to the cable and threw gold 1/4 ounce Kastmasters toward the bank. Didn't matter which side. Slowly retrieved when casting toward the bank, or using 1/4 or 1/8 ounce gold Kastmasters trolled behind the boat while drifting down the middle from the cable to lookout. All we used was 2# green Maxima line with the drag set pretty loose. From lookout down to Fall Creek we threw variations of sculpin 1/8 ounce jigs toward the steep bank, and the same just below Fall Creek. Knocked them dead for three full days. Good luck and wish I was there. With that much generation even I probably couldn't ding a prop.

Two friends and I decided to escape from St. Louis for a few days of winter trout fishing, and what better place to do it than Lilley’s Landing. There is no better deal than Lilley’s Fishing Buddy special, and no better place to stay on Lake Tanycomo than Lilley’s Landing Resort. We arrived early afternoon, Tuesday Feb. 10th. We were given Cabin #1 which was perfect for three fishermen. Three twin beds and kitchen facilities. This newly remodeled cabin is really nice, and like all of Lilley’s accomodations was neat, clean, and had everything we needed for a great stay. We headed straight for the dam after unloading. There was no generation and when we arrived at the dam we headed for the cable. There were only three or four other fishermen in sight. I used a gold 1/8th ounce KastMaster, while the other two used gold Super Dupers with a red tip. We fished for about an hour and between the three of us managed to catch and release over a dozen trout, all in the slot. No browns, all rainbows. After lunch we headed for the dock to see if we could get some keepers to take home, and had no problem getting our limits. I started out with several different colors maribu jigs, and had no luck. My friends were using power bait, orange and white, and also no luck. We then all switched to Salmon Peach power bait and within an hour all had a limit of nice, pan size rainbows. Fished a little bit in the evening at the dam and caught and released about a dozen more, all in the slot and all on various colored Kastmasters and Super Dupers. We were all using ultralites with two pound green Maxima line. Wednesday morning they were generating two units and we headed for the dam at around eight o’clock. Just as we arrived they cut generation and the water was going down fast. Only one other fisherman in sight. Once again we caught and released about twenty trout between the three of us. All in or slightly below the slot. We fished a couple of hours with enough action to make it a good time for all. We all continued using our ultralights, casting as far as possible across and slightly up stream. Never got out fly rods out as we didn’t see any of the guys with fly rods hooking anything. By the time we left there were about a half dozen fly fishermen at and below the outlet. Later in the evening we returned to the dock and tried everything from jigs to lures, and different color gulp eggs with no luck. Again we switched to the Peach Salmon dough bait and again all got our limits of nice, pan sized trout. The cold front came in Wed. night and we didn’t fish Thursday morning, but headed back home early. All in all a great get-away thanks to Phil’s generosity in giving a great break on the room. Needless to say all personnel were friendly as they always are. Thanks to all for another enjoyable winter vacation.

You really know how to make a guy homesick for Lilley's. Great feature. Thanks.

Wow! Sounds slow, but here's a few things that have worked for me using a spinning rod. First of all, if you haven't already, spool up with 2# green or moss colored line. I like Maxima. Above Fall Creek I'd throw sculpin jigs and gold Kastmasters toward the bluff banks from Lookout down. Work them slowly and review Phil's short film on the forum regarding jig fishing. Also, try dragging different colored egg flies on the bottom. My favorite color is light orange or salmon. Below Fall Creek continue with the jigs and lures as above, but also try a half worm below one white gulp egg. One white gulp egg combined with an orange or pink egg. Also, try a small treble hook with orange Power Bait, especially in the area of Fall Creek marina. Stop by Lilley's as they will have any supplies you need and will be able to give you advice on what may be working best today. Most important if you haven't already done it, 2# green or moss colored line. Good Luck and have fun! Wish I was there.

Once again, thanks very much to Phil and the staff at Lilley’s for another enjoyable stay at rates that can’t be beat. Rented a boat and set out fishing late Tuesday morning. I think they were generating one unit and the wind was kicking up quite a bit. Fished the bank from Fall Creek marina to Short Creek and caught one trout after the other using nothing but eighth ounce sculpin jigs. From Short Creek down to Trout Hollow did best drifting inflated worms. Not much luck at all with Gulp Eggs. Fished about four hours and caught and released over fifty trout. Most were around twelve to fourteen inches with the largest being about a seventeen incher. Started Wednesday morning at the dam. I think they were running two units but fishing was good drifting egg flies and scuds. Finished the day fishing from Lilley’s dock and had some of the best fishing of the trip using orange cheese bait. Caught trout almost every cast within a few minutes of letting it sit on the bottom. A lot of fun, and we were the only ones fishing from the dock. Sat there for a couple of hours and have no idea how many we caught and released. Kept four apiece to take home. Strange thing was that for bait fishing, most all were hooked in the jaw making removal really easy. The ones that swallowed the bait were the ones we kept. All in all a great trip once again and cannot thank Phil and his staff enough for the opportunity to make such a good trip at such a reasonable price. Hope to see all of you again before the winter is over.

First, thanks to Phil, his family and the staff at Lilley’s Landing for another great trip. As usual the lodging and service was outstanding and you just can’t beat the Fishing Buddy Special. I took two of my friends for their first experience at Tany and we were not disappointed. All of us were looking forward to just getting away from the city for a few days of relaxation and fishing. The weather cooperated and so did the fish. Fishing from the dock and at the dam was good the entire trip. We used our ultralites and did well at both locations. At the dam we threw mostly egg flies and super dupers, catching and releasing slot size trout. The action was excellent the whole trip. When we decided to take a limit the final day we had no problem using gulp eggs, power bait and worms fishing from the dock. To all the readers of the forum who may not have taken advantage of the Fishing Buddy Special I would say make it a point to do so in the future. As one writer said in an earlier post, you almost feel guilty paying such a low tab upon leaving. It really is the perfect getaway. Thanks again.

For those of us not very familiar with the channel, how careful do you have to be boating with one or two units running? Is the run up to lookout pretty safe as far as damaging the prop?

Serious question. I don't often fish Taneycomo, but always enjoy it when I do. Generally fish from a boat. What is it that people do that causes them to be referred to as idiots or slobs? I've been making my twice annual trips to Taney for the past fifteen years or so and have had very few problems, and hope I've caused none. I'm not being confrontational at all. I'm just honestly curious what people do, seemingly on a regular basis, to hack off the regulars. Thanks for any information or advice that might help me or others in the future.
