  1. Thanks for the suggestions. I will give them a try and report back.
  2. I just put one on the hook of a swimming minnow or tube jig. Try to match the color of the jig. Yes sometimes you have deal with those pesky bluegill but the majority of the time for me it has been helpful. When the crappie are biting slow this has helped me catch them.
  3. I use crappie nibblets and have put enough crappie in the boat with them that I always have a couple jars of them. They work.
  4. Hey Dutch, I have been mostly bottom bouncing and jigging for walleyes lately but did troll for a bit about a week ago. Caught a few nice 12-13 in crappie on small cranks in about 20 fow.
  5. I have fished this lake for 17 years. The only secret I know is to keep it simple. I throw topwaters early and late, spinnerbaits, crankbaits and the occasional texas rigged dark colored worm the rest of the time. My biggest bass out of the lake was 5 lbs several years ago but have caught a lot up to 3.5lbs. Good luck.
  6. We fished a little way up the lake from the ramp all the way down to the park.
  7. About a month ago I was visiting relatives in Louisiana and of course we had to do some bass fishing. We fished a small lake and found the Hybrids and Stripers schooling. Very awesome sight of several acres of Stripers busting shad! We caught about 60 in the 3-5lb range over three days of fishing. We caught them on wakebaits, flukes, rattle traps and white swimming minnows. Just not as many as it seemed we should for the way they were busting. I very seldom catch or fish for stripers, mostly by accident while bass or walleye fishing. My question for some of you who fish for them frequently. Do you have some suggestions on baits for these schoolers and do bigger stripers tend to hang below the schoolers like largemouth? I have another trip scheduled down there the weekend after the 4th and have heard they are still schooling early mornings. Thanks for any suggestions.
  8. We have fished that main lake area before and have done fairly well. We have a small jon boat with a 6hp on it also. I have seen those bouys also and would like to know what the rest of the bouy says also. Fun lake to fish.
  9. Fished the Baxter area yesterday morning early. Caught a few chasers early but found some whites and as Bill had said they ate up the spoon. Had a lot of fun. Also caught several short fish on dropshot after sun got up. Probably not fishing deep enough these were only in 18-25. It seemed like there were a ton of fishermen on the water yesterday early for a Thursday morning.
  10. Went this evening with my son. Very suprised at how many people were out. It has been a while since I fished the lake. We managed 7 bass mostly LM and one nice kentucky between 12-17 in. On buzzbaits. Looked like everyone we saw were throwing buzzbaits.
  11. Sorry for your bad luck. I feel for you. I had to get my transom replaced last summer luckily before it went as far as yours :-(
  12. Excellent explanation of the way people think on the water, PD. Even though they are wrong and we are right, I understand them at least ;-)
  13. Does anyone know where you can rent boats in the Theodosha area? Thanks
  14. I have a lease up Sons Creek. I had a whole family of otters on one of my trail cameras a few months ago.
  15. Thanks WM very tough day staying on spot with the wind. NWTF--We were using a jig head and half crawler rig most of the time.
  16. Does anyone know about how many boats they expect?

    Walleye

Caught 14 keeper walleye today with another 6 shorts. Caught them on very windy points in 10-18ft on jig and crawlers.
  18. I have kept them in the past after I had asked the MDC if it was safe to do so.
  19. Caught a dozen big gills and three big rock bass this morning in the Baxter area on points in 14-18 fow on crawlers. Also picked up two nice smallmouth and one nice kentucky while fishing for bluegill.
  20. Those whites are a bunch of trouble to clean but they have a good taste after you get that red meat out. We do the same to stripers and hybrids we catch on other lakes. They still cant compare to eyes though :-)
  21. My son and I fished this tourney for the first time at the urging of my regular tourney partner. Weighed in a couple of smallmouth but didnt win any $. Still a very nicely ran event. Enjoyed the food, meeting KVD and the rest of the crew. Thanks and we will be in it again next year.
  22. We struggled saturday up around Baxter so headed down toward the dam Sunday. Caught 30 + smallies on a jig no bigguns though. Biggest was just shy of 3 lbs but had probably 10-15 over 15 in. I could also do without the heavy pleasure boat traffic. Took one wave over the bow.
  23. Had very near the same thing happen to me and my son while fishing the KVD tourney yesterday. We were the first boat on a long run out point about 30yrds from the end of the point. Boat pointed to the pt end and working to it. A boat ran up to base of the pt and idles past us within 20 yrds and pulls in front of us on the point end within a short cast. I know because I cast all around thier boat. They just ignored us until the guy in the back of the boat told his partner he thought we were following them!! Had to take several deep breaths. Very aggravating but excellent lesson to point out to my son about fishing and boating ettiquette. We still caught fish but that does not excuse someone being rude. On a better note, I had someone cut me off one day near Aunts creek while fishing a bluff wall. I don't think he saw me, but when he did I was taking off a fish. He was close enough to ask me which way I was working and they apologized for pulling up in front of me and promptly moved off. I understand something like that but to idle right past someone and cut in close in front is beyond rude.
  24. Is there a radio station that will give updates?
  25. Very nice walleyes!! Sounds like an excellent trip.
