  1. Woo-hoo!!! Now I only have the Dock Cam "Jones" to resolve!
  2. Thanks for that info, Phil! I had read something about "skins" elsewhere just before I wrote this and wondered about that. This is a Test- This line should be spaced under the line above.
  3. So, I am keenly aware that Explorer is the "recommended" browser to utilize this forum. Recommended, hell- it's required(for full function)! As a Macintosh user however, that is a deal breaker. The Mac version was eliminated after version 5.2. Adding readable posts(with all the preferred line and paragraph breaks and those little faces), viewing the Lilleys Dock Camera, etc. all elude me. And it keeps me from being more active here. It's frustrating. I don't even want to re-read my stuff when it all runs together as one big paragraph with no ability to underline, bold, or wink when I'm just being silly, etc. This post would have two or three line breaks by now, and it does as I type it, but as soon as I hit post it will reset the entire thing to one drawn out block of text. Is their a workaround(add-ons, patches, etc)? Is there a break in the clouds coming that I cannot foresee(format change to be multi-browser friendly)? Help a brutha out, yo! (Firefox 3.5.1 user, with Safari 4.0.1 and Explorer 5.2 collecting dust)
  4. If most of the BEST trout streams out yonder are flies only, don't you think that possibly says something about that regulation and its effectiveness? And quite simply, your expertise in the use of trebles may not be the best anecdotal evidence to consider for that potential issue and it's negative impact, especially in the use of bait/non fly practices. Myself, I'm starting to come around to the realization that the trout parks are evolving into more of a Suson Park or any other meat provider public facilities in urban areas offer(MSSP being the obvious best example). And that's absolutely fine for those that want meat! I would, however, like to see the waterways otherwise available for trout in Missouri directed more to that Western ideology.
  5. So we were on our annual pre-Memorial Day camping trip to Table Rock. We always camp at the same two tent sites. We LOVE 'em! Heard over at the Marina about the Corps doing some work this summer/fall to "re-arrange" the campgrounds- make them more "motor home friendly". Well I've know heard the same thing again. So I was just wondering what anyone else may know about this. Very upsetting if this year could possibly have been the last time at our favorite spot on the lake...... Thanks- SF
  6. "If the tournament allows it, use nightcrawlers." That would be a big fat juicy NO....
  7. You're on the right track. Might add jig/chunk to what you've listed. 3/16 to 1/4 oz. Stackin up to be one helluva day for a tourney, eh? Havent done one there myself. No live well. Oh well! I'll be out picking up trash on the river(s). Confluence Trash Bash is tomorrow! Brrr.. ( http://www.confluencegreenway.org/m-events.php )
  8. Maybe there'll be some casting lanes open by the weekend....then we'll see just whats left in there!
  9. These last two years of this program havent been what it used to be. For both weather issues and the numbers of people that have come out with their corn and powerbait....many taking to chumming. Weatherwise, heavy rains muddy and then freezing temps make for enough ice to limit available casting water. (As you noted, casting isnt even possible). And, the stocking rate has decreased to boot. Opposite of what it should be. Also, last year about 1/3 of the stock died before the season opened, and I dont know for certain they were replaced. In years past, I've had some really good days- CnR dozens. Last 2 years, though, I can count on one hand what I've been able to get out of there.
  10. The missus and I finally got a few days to ourselves. This after the lunacy that is a daughters wedding! Several days/nites at Big Spring Lodge was the drug to suit our ills. While relaxing and enjoying each others company alone was the primary focus, we did indeed get several hours on the river over the several days. And this time of the year makes for some enjoyable and tranquil moments to appreciate streamside. Thursday morning after breakfast we hit a section of the stream under a bridge that seemed that it should hold something (sidenote: I'm pretty much totally unfamiliar with this section of the Current). After working our way back and forth, crossing paths (but not lines!) and switching out lures, we couldnt coax anything into biting- beyond the couple of pumpkinseeds she snatched with a rooster tail. After a couple hours, we decided to take a power nap, eat some lunch and seek other holes. Later that afternoon we decided on our next location and this time got the waders out. The stream was broad and swift with a nice cut on the opposite bank. So I got out there as far as I could(up to me belly button) and began casting slightly up and waaay over. After a bit of adjustment for speed and distance, I finally made the cast that count. And boy was it rewarded. Line tightened and battle was on. I was being taken for a ride! 30-40 yds downstream- I was practically getting dragged. Spectacular(-ly nerve wracking) jumps and shakes were presented in quick succession. I felt certain I would see my line go slack and wave in the current without that heavy beast at the other end any longer. But that wasnt to be. Finally, I gingerly guided it towards the calmer shallows to gaze upon a personal triumph- my personal best Missouri Stream Smallmouth. Measuring 20 inches long and a girth of 14, she was certain to be close to 4 pounds. Getting a picture was interesting too, since Lady Fly was 300 yards upstream. So I fumbled a camera out of my pocket set it for timer and guessed where to position I and my prize before letting her free. I think I was successful for a shot worth hanging! Although I was satisfied to quit right then, I continued to fish for awhile, hooking two others that any other day would have been respectably great smallies. And those 3 were the only ones I got to take the hook through Saturday.....but who cares! Great time, great place, great fish.
  11. Well I'da started a new topic for this, but considering it's regarding a nearly identical motor, forgive me if I share yours. I'm using a 9.8 Merc Thunderbolt 110 of a mid seventies variety. Borrowed from a neighbor who had it just sittin in the garage takin up space(He wont sell, dernit). Heck of an upgrade on my late 60s 14ft Sears V-bottom from the trolling motor I normally use....but anyway- She starts up just fine, idles real good and slow runs without problem. When I give'er the juice though, she coughs and sputters sendin us all herky jerky down the lake. Lookin for any clues as to the problem. Thanks if you have an opinion to share....
  12. Man, awesome work all around and very nice website I might add. Can I ask what all tools you have that you are using? Also, on the acrylic call(s), did you turn those as well? Very impressive! Makes me want to get out of the working on a computer every day and get back to working with my hands!
  13. I'm a Fat(tening) Hillbilly type. It is what it is, what can I say? hehe... (yup...sometimes it seems the place is a little stiff, but I respect the owner and he can keep his place the way he wants!)
  14. Jealous, that'd be a no. Frustrated that a obvious novice "didnt know about replicas" and decided to kill it? More accurate. But thanks for playing.
  15. Grrrr...... nice fish, lousy everything else.....
  16. That aint just curiosity mister, thats a gen-u-ine prayer......LOL! Admittedly, I would like to second a motion to have an answer to that question. Thanks for the insight to ole George, rest his soul. VERY interesting! Still curious, though, as to the thought process that led to those decisions/species. May never know! 25-30 years ago it may have simply been wishful thinkin'!
  17. Two of the guys I most wanted to hear from..! Thanks much- confirms my own thoughts on the matter. What a shame though, eh?! You know, it's strange too, there was a gentleman by the name of George Carson who was a sport journalist on the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He was hired by the developer to help decide what to stock. Wonder what he based those decisions on. Ever heard of him, Al?
  18. Dude, I told ya to come on out- you know when! Happy B-Day my friend!~
  19. This weekend talking to a guy who has lived in my community for years indicated that lake trout had been stocked in our biggest lake some years back. Of course I was skeptical and investigated. Well, sure enough the Board President confirmed the story. Northern Pike had been stocked as well. This is a 140 or so acre lake with a max depth at 65 feet or so. If true, the questions I have of all you knowledgeable peeps are: A) Could they survive longterm? Would they reproduce at this latitude? C) What kind of age limits do these fish have? Obviously Id like to go after either of these species, especially 5 minutes from my front door!!! But if the chance of them being in there still is nill, no sense in getting that gear purchased. I'm fairly certain no one has even attempted to fish for the lakers especially.... Thoughts?
  20. What is the range restrictions on that? I'm game-cam ignorant.....
  21. Woo-wee... whatta topic! Here where I live we're having a rash outbreak of thefts and vandalism as well. I am fortunate not to be a victim as of yet. But it is getting peoples dander up for sure. A lot of sensitivity these days and it is understood..... I do have a question regarding game camera usage though(since it seemed the best short term solution). Are they not based on motion detection? And if so, would not the rocking of a dock and/or the wave motion of the lake possibly eat up image space right quick? Keep the line fresh and the hooks sharp ya'll! Flycaster
  22. Phil- Pat pretty much summed it up for me. Friday was the hilite of the week! Seeing those guys have a good time as they did, knowing how "experienced" they have been in serving us and our country, it was about the best thing anyone could be a part of. My partner, Sgt. Hill, had never trout fished before. And I, being the nonconformist, went against the recommended offerings for a couple reasons. First, Hill was comfortable with a baitcasting rod. As it happens, that was the tactic I had been using with success. I gave him one of my Rogues and within the first hour or so he had caught his first ever trout!- 3 total (and one that would have weighted out around 3+lbs made a jump and escaped the trebles!). After that, the rogue bite seemed to teeter off and he did attempt the white jig bite- there were no takers. After the fishing was done and the fisherman (and WOman..hehe) were lured under the pavilion for some wicked good eats. Getting to simply sit, talk, and mostly listen to these guys was just about the best part of all- a perspective and stories that we all should hear and know about. What they have been through for the sake of us all is absolutely stunning. And for that I am truly grateful and confident in knowing we have people like them serving- I gave but a day to them for the years (and more) they've been giving to us all! Thanks goes also to you, Phil- for your generosity and efforts for ALL of us- I am humbled! Aaron Hill and his first trout- Hill and I- Murph and Pat-
  23. PF, I actually almost lost my grip on the brute handing the camera over to TJ...! GB, need to get you and your fine whisky out some time for some flippin'! Oh yeah....meant to include, digital scale indicated 6lbs 14oz. and she measured 25+ inches.
  24. Yup, thats the one- actually, technically we're in Warren County. The border between the two runs the eastern border of the community. 150+ acre main lake.
  25. LOL....I was on my way to do that, doc- and done. However, there's still some funny stuff that is going on within this forum that I dont seem to have issues with anywhere else.- even my spacing and shift returns are all messed up (at least as it shows on my screen).
