  1. ............and they made it further than the Jayhawks!!!
  2. CONGRATS Sara.....and Gramps!!
  3. No luck i would have to agree with you. The family and I camped last Thur-Sun and I did not see as many fish as I usually do. We caught fish and had a great time, but I didn't see as many. My guess is the weather last year and the fishing pressure this year are the cause. I only fished in zone 1 and a little in zone 2.
  4. Took the class at Village Trading Post in Arnold. Was $95 and the instructor (Hank Frank) was interesting and after we qualified at the range, we stayed and shot another 100 rounds. I live in St. Louis County, so now I have to take the certificate the STL Co HQ in Clayton, pay a $76 fee and they mail you the permit.........and then you have to take it to the license bureau and update your drivers license or get a seperate CCW card. Was definitely worth going to the class.
  5. Yep, and it was much better than being at work!! Was a beautiful day!
  6. Saturday we made it to the parking lot at 7:30am, walked up the hill, followed dirt road down to the river, crossed over and went down stream (thru the woods).......and started fishing upstream.......and at 1:30.....0 fish caught!! We tried all of the fly recommendations. I dont feel so bad because every fisherman we passed was also shut out. Was a beautiful day and it was great to get out, so I can't complain.
  7. A buddy of mine from work wants to fish somewhere near Baptist Camp on Saturday morning. Anyone have any suggestions? Only fished the area once and it was in the middle of the day in July. Any recommendations on where to start/end? Also wanted to know if it will be fishable with the snow that was received last weekend?? Would also appreciate any fly suggestions.
  8. Happy Belated B-day buddy! Hope you had a good one!!
  9. I strongly suggest you also contact your government officials and let them know your thoughts.
  10. Agree with you Thom....No place/staff better than Lilley's!! Thanks for the reports!
  11. I just went thru this and several guys recommended Rio. I purchased the Rio Selective Trout and it is really nice line and it casts great. I'm glad I listened to them. That deal that Lilley has for Rio gold $45 is a good deal!!
  12. Nice flies!! You should post the recipes!
  13. Happy B-Day buddy! Nice cake!!
  14. Sorry guys, forgot about this after I made the post.....getting old. I would like to reload for my .38, 9mm, 30-30, 7mm mouser and .270. My uncle had his brokers license and reloaded his ammo, but unfortunately he passed away 2 years ago, before i had an interest in shooting.
  15. That's a great price Duckydoty! I have that same gun (minus the scope) and it's a blast to shoot and extremely easy to clean. My son has a cva with a bolt action and I can almost have mine clean by the time he breaks his down. I told several buddies at work about it.
  16. We had one in STL a couple years ago......Terry, you are right on....if you have never been thru one, it is unreal. Hard to sleep when trees are crackig/popping and falling. Hope all of you are safe! Just snow here in STL
  17. I tie a piece of amnesia (red) to the fly line with a nail knot and then tie a loop on the other end......and tie a small loop on the end of all of my leaders, to connect loop-to-loop
  18. Great question! Have been tying for a couple of years and had the same question, but never did anything about it!
  19. vanven, I had a fusion vest and recently changed to a fishpond pack that looks similar to the simms you posted. I LOVE my fanny pack and dont think I could ever go back. I purchased the fusion used and when I filled it up, it still bothered my back, so I sold it on ebay for more than I paid for it and purchased the fishpond at the recommendation of fly shop in Cotter Arkansas. It holds all of my gear and when I am not using it, I slide it around back. As Dano recommended, I purchased a magnetic net ring. The fishpond comes with an optional strap that allows it to be worn as a chestpack if you are wading in deep water. It is expensive ($75), but I have had mine for a year and it works great!
  20. Bigger and heavier vanven. I would probably buy the Hardy but i just got the Battenkill BBS II and it is a really nice reel (also got a spare reel at no charge)
  21. sleet and snow here in Ballwin....already 2"! They already closed Rockwood School district.....which is very unusual!!
  22. I should really get into reloading.....is it easy to get started? Is it expensive?
  23. Just bought 100rds of 38 and 2 boxes of blazer 9mm from Wally World (Town & Country) Friday evening. They movedall of the handgun ammo from the open shelves to the locked cabinets. Employee said people were walking away with it, but he still had a lot left. Saturday evening, I stopped at the Wally World in Chesterfield bottoms and they were completely sold out. Employee said a coulple of customers came in during the day and bought everything they had!
  24. Received an Orvis Battenkill 2 reel for my Sage ZXL 8'6" 4wt rod and now I am trying to decide what brand of line to purchase for it. Any suggestions? A friend of mine recommended Rio selective trout or Rio Gold. Won the rod and the reel was a xmas present, so I would like to string it up with the right line.
