....use micro jigs/plastic worms/bait with 2lbs.,wont hurt as much when you lose.LOL...lures/bait float more natural,sink faster,cast further with 2lbs.4lbs. for roostertails/crankbaits,fish don't see line as much when you cast and crank.I like to carry extra spools for this.When waters clear/low I like to downsize line[ive been known to dig deep and go with sewing machine thread]downsize lure[100th oz.micro with cork]....cork is more for castability and depth control,as I watch lure/fish more than cork.Castmaster in mac springs this time of year[low/weedy=snagmaster]wouldn't even cross my mind....more of a big,fast,deep water bait.JMHO....good luck!

....next time get you some green maxima #2Lbs test.Spring's store sells small spools of it....tippet/leader.In late summer,early fall water is clear/low.May have to re-adjust that drag again.Good luck.

....stream is loaded.....after saturdays kids fish day.Nice size,water flows great,and i saw them stocking again when leaving last night.Green micro jig under float 2'-4' [thanks phil],red/white power eggs,orange plastic worms.Be a great week to take a couplo vacation days.....

no kayaking in maramec springs trout park,in meremac river above/below the springs you can kayak.Soft plastics,bait,etc....all good in trout park....not in red ribbon area that surrounds trout park.Maramec Springs[trout park] is about 1 1/2 creek that comes out of a cave and flows into meremec river[red ribbon area/special regs]....your best bet if fishing the upper meremec is go to MDC website and research regulations as there are at least a couple special reg areas[trout/smallmouth bass] If you cant find....i'll find you a link. http://mdc.mo.gov/fishing/regulations/special-area-fishing-regulations http://mdc.mo.gov/sites/default/files/resources/2010/05/5645_3552.pdf

....had a gobbler hang up in front of my blind for 2 hours at 90yrds.He just walked back and forth/stood out there.Wouldnt respond to calls....just hung up waiting for hens to come out into middle of field.I waited till 1pm....snuck/crawled outta my blind,so i didnt give up my hide,walked 1/4 mile outta my way only to have 2 gobblers cross the road 50yrds from my truck as i got my wet clothes off.....after legal shooting time.Luv me sum turkey hunt'n.LOL

red ribbon trout area from hwy8 bridge to scotts ford bridge 6-8 miles....no bait,scented baits,no soft plastics.No floating kayaks in springs/trout park.Topwater,hard plastics,jigs,small spinners will catch fish.First 3 miles below springs is best for trout IMHO,great smallie fish'n if you catch it at right time.

...nice birds,mines a little wet.Had 5 gobblers come into my dekes over my right shoulder....while calling one 200 yrds. in front of me.I had to pull my blind out due to the rising meremac,looking forward to rebrushing it.LOL

Depends where/what part of the river your floating.Meremec State Park and Maramec Springs,which this forum covers are miles apart....state park is mostly smallies,spots,LM with cat,carp,drum,goggle eye,panfish.Meremac Springs area is a red ribbon trout area with same fish + trout and special regs.

HAHA,happens brudder.Water was up with color but not cloudy/muddy.....real weedy tho,needs a trim.Pic may help but maybe not.....seeing hows im in the spot yo turned me on to couplo years ago....again.LOL

....went to springs last week for more of a picnic....wife and boys caught fish....which is code for i got skunked.LOL...They were biting on white power eggs,pink power eggs,orange trout worms fished wacky style.I threw the long rod with orange scud,green wooly for awhile....notta.Of course i was bar b q'ing two slabs of ribs while listening to momma laugh and yell at boys,"get it,get it" everytime she hooked one.....very distracting....hence the skunkage!They ended up with 9,i know,i fillet them all...as the oldest bagged them and took home for him and his friends to eat.[all bagged separately with license numbers of fishers attached.....of course!] LOL

....took my boys down to bull shoals state park and rented a RV/camp on the white river.....3 days of heaven.Drove down to north fork river[about 45 minutes/24 miles] away for the day.Fishing was great,weather was great,even if it did rain all morning at north fork.Oldest bar-b q'd,yougest did dish's,both boys shared cleaning fish,and i dont have to watch them in the river now that their 24 and 22.....little favors Fish'n was great on white jigs,white power eggs,white spinners,green wooly boogers and my youngest did pretty good on orange worm.At one point,as im sitting watching boys fish from RV deck,siren blows[water being released] both boys look at each other at same time and start backpeddling for bank....they look up at me and we all start laughing....good to know they listen to old man after all these years.LOL my bonus brookie and shore lunch......

Just found this,sorry to hear.Crippled caddis gave me a e-mail crash course years ago on the spring river,that helped me greatly.A truly generous fisher with insight,info and heart......GOLD! Im sure he still watches the spring from his mountain overlook.....God Bless Tom,thanks.
