  2. Greg, I just noticed your quote for the first time. That's the funniest I've seen in awhile. My next interest in a rig might me a 4 wt Lamson Konic on a 4wt Scott A2 with potential 5wt line. Any feedback (constructive criticism) from some experts is welcome. By the way, two really nice guys were knocking them out on egg patterns just 50 ft down from us yesterday. They said they got their info from Jeremy Hunt's forum. Don

....maybe a wizz test should be a requirement for posting here??? by the logic in some of the posts. Dang it Thom.... Now you guys have figured out why I haven't posted anything yet. Don
  4. Greg, Yes, it's the Finesse. It is a good multipurpose rod. I can not cast it far like I could cast a fast rod but I'm not a good caster anyway. I cast light tackle with this one rather accurately. I fish streamers with it at night. It is a great nymphing rod. It is great for dries and soft hackles. I would call it a great placement rod. This one is an 8' 9" 5wt. Don
  5. I didn't check the charts. It was still off when we left about 1:00 PM. Don
  6. My friend and I fished from sunrise until noon between chutes one and two. I believe it was the first time I have waded Taney since January. Man, it felt great. We each finished with about fifteen fish a piece. The bite wasn't real hot but no complaints here. There was no specific hot fly, fish were caught with pine squirrel, ants, cranefly, woolies, scuds, San Juans, and eggs. We went down to KOA anf fished about an hour after all of that. I was in pursuit of large browns and caught my first smallmouth bass on a flyrod. I really enjoyed the battle. I used a TNA Trout and the fish measured 16 inches. Don
  7. Terry, Did they give you a nickname yet?
  8. I've been told before that I do. I wasn't sure whether to take it as a compliment or not Don
  9. I've eaten Han's there many times. As a matter of fact, it's the only thing I've eaten there. Order mild instead of hot. It is plenty spicy enough. Order hot if you are one bad dude. Don
  10. I made a last minute decision Friday night to fish the Red Sat and Sun. Water and conditions were the same as you described and wading was tough. I fell and topped off my waders for the first time ever. . I fished JFK for and hour sat. and lost a few on midges. My friend caught 2 then the siren was on. We then visited Jed at LRFlyshop and then drove to Pangburn to explore. We didn't fish Pangburn because rain was coming and we needed to cover things up back at camp. After awhile, water was back down and we fished JFK for an hour before dark. Fishing was tough. Not much going on top. I landed only one with a small black dry. Yesterday, 08/10/08, it rained all day. JFK again in the murk. I picked up 5 the hour before lunch and picked up 11 the hour after lunch off a pink san juan before the water came on. I was the only visible fly fisherman in the rain while there were quite a few bait fisherman. I quit smoking Saturday morning to compliment what was my first tailwater wading trip since January 2008. I had a blast and I will be back next month. Don May
  11. This is the first reply to this thread since March. I am interested in results from previous repliers. I have been eating Chantix for over a week. No noticeable side affects. I told my doctor I had to do something about my sloking habit of 30 years. He stated that I do not fill the prescription unless I an 100% committed to quit. He said Chantix reduces your craving for nicotine but you can not be 99% committed to quit, you have to be 100% committed. I filled my script on the way home. I have cut back 50% in the last week without trying very hard. Now comes the tough part. I am camping and flyfishing by mydelf below Beaver Dam next weekend. Starting Saturday morning, I will never smoke another cigarette again. Fair warning to those who are thinking about joining me that weekend Don May
  12. LMW! You're Back! I haven't seen you since new years a couple of years ago. "I Lost My Wife" is the classic thread. By the way, it would not be a bad idea to have a vote some day on the most humorous thread on OAF. You got my vote. I am glad to hear you are now a lean mean fishing machine. I will pray for your good health and might even see you on Taney this summer/fall. Take Care.....Don May
  13. Troutfanatic, It seems like you're ready for Steelhead ot Kings. Lucky you. Hope to get the initiation report of the rod. Flyfshn, What model id PHW TFO? Signature, Professional, or other? Thanks.....Don
  14. I have a 94 Ford Ranger. My pickup shell was totalled in tornado of March 2006. Unbelieveably the truck only suffered a few small dents. What size is your topper? Don May

    Joe Bonamassa

I just bought my first Bonamassa CD, "Blues Deluxe". This guy is super guitar talent. I can't wait to get the rest of his CD's. Don May
  16. Terry, Now i understand. That explains while I am king of Chute 2, or otherwise, while I'm thrashing up and down Taney, people stare me down and I keep hearing the word LAME. Those guys must think you showed me your secret fly Don't worry, I won't tell anybody what LAME stands for.....Don
  17. Yep, this topic has been around before. If I remember correctly, I stated I wasn't a man because I had to use a net and therefore I was just a lesbian trapped in a man's body . Anyhow, my cousin is flyrod experienced 20 plus yrs and doesn't use a net for most fish, only for bigguns. I tried for about a month and lost a ton of flies and alot of fish so I am back to the net. I guess I wasn't patient enough. Keep the net wet and keep the fish in water when unhooking and releasing. No harm done with or without the net if the fish is respected and taken care of before release. Don
  18. What did you catch that one on Terry? You know, if you didn't have such a big old head that fish would look much larger Don
  19. Europeans and others are taking advantage of our weak American dollar. It's bargain time to buy U.S. assets now. News reported optimistic feedback from AB employees after the CEO of inBev visited St Louis....we'll see. If there is too much slash and burn resulting in significant unemployment, we all have the option to boycott. I have no problem doing that. Don
  20. Patfish. I hope you have a great birthday. Go catch some fish. Don
  21. You are bonafide Congratulations.....Don
  22. 4 members are celebrating their birthday today SGFChief(48), jdmidwest(45), Project Healing Waters(3), swellcat(42) Best fishes to all you birthday boys. Ken, I would have never guessed you were 3. You look every bit the age 2. Don
  23. I don't have an answer to your question because I'm specifically ingorant on the topic. However, the title of the thread caught my eye. If I ever cut a country music CD, a good name for it would be "Crawdads and Crankbaits". Don
  24. How cool, John Berry also recommended the cafe. If I ever make it down this year, I'll be sure to check it out. It also looks like I might find a bargain on fishing gear at Mr. Smith's garage sale this summer. My biggest concern is the 20 oz. latte. The last time i downed one of those baby's, I casted way too fast and never paused a lick for my backcast . Don
  25. Wait a minute! I also have a BCO card and I was told that if I earned 15,000 points I get my choice of a pack of crystal flash or flashabou. I think you've been shafted Ronnie I picked up my first Echo rod from BCO in May. I'ts not a classic. It's a 7 wt for my sink tip reel. I bought it based on price, reputation, and warranty. I can't wait for the initiation. I've yet to try it. Don
