  1. I really enjoy fishing wets and soft hackles at Taney. The action is great. Yesterday when the wet fly supply was low, I fished dry flies like soft hackles and it really worked for a period of time. It was a real good fishing afternoon for me. I also like the traditional aspect of the wet flies.
  2. Bob Corsetti, Rods & Reels, 17 Massasoit Road, Nashua, NH, 03063, can be contacted at 603-886-0411.
  3. Thanks for the photos. I think Crane Creek is one of the best fisheries in the region. It's a true challenge and joy for an angler.
  4. I didn't see anything opening day. I hunted private land in the morning and public in the afternoon and evening in Texas County. Sunday morning I did bump a couple in very thick cover on public land. There was no opportunity for a shot, just too thick. I believe they were bedded down from the HEAT!
  5. PVSPMO, Now that's deer camp, man. I'm sure your guys have a blast during the season. Does the bus have a name?
  6. I'll be heading to Texas County for opening weekend. I hunt on a 20-acre tract that's next door to Mark Twain NF. I area had a lot of feeding sign when I there a few weeks ago with my bow. I'll came back to the Branson area on Monday and do some more hunting and of course some fishing. What's the weather forecast for opening weekend?
  7. Thanks for sharing that great story Slider. Congrats to your daughter. She's becoming quite a hunter and marksmen. I'm sure those tenderloins were great.
  8. I harvested a button buck this morning during the managed deer hunt. In the words of Michael Waddell: "I gave him a judo chop, baby!!!!" It was a 50-yard shot with my 50-caliber, in-line muzzleloader.
  9. I was out first light today for the mananaged deer hunt in Taney Co. with my muzzleloader. Didn't even see a tail flash or anything that resembled a deer. It become a little warm later in the morning, and I'm sure they bedded for the day. I'll be out tommorow morning.
  10. Those are some big pigs. Thanks for sharing.
  11. I've been out once so far during the warm weather, and I'm just now recovering from all the chigger bites. Didn't see any deer, just feeding sign. I'll be out this weekend for a muzzleloader/managment hunt near Branson. Good hunting and be safe!!!!
  12. Anyone using SA's new $99.95 Sharkskin line?
  13. Flyfishmaster, According to the writing on the rod, it can take "line size 2-6 lb" or "lure wt. 1/16-3/8 oz." In terms of fish size, I was hoping to hook a pig today, but Taney is just wide open and a good testing ground. It handled stocked-size fish just fine today.
  14. I tried out my new fiberglass 6'6" Eagle Claw Featherlight rod this morning at Taney and this little thing was fun and pretty much did whatever I asked it do. Not bad for $16.10, plus $7.78 for shipping. I had a DT4F line on it and the parabolic action wasn't that hard to get used to. As other forum threads have mentioned, this fiberglass rod is accurate and casts really well, depending on the distance. Can't wait to take it to Crane. I got mine from troutlet.com.
  15. Vonreed, If there's a saddle of low spot along the ridgeline, I would try setting up there first. With the temps getting lower, I would think such a location could be productive anytime of day, morning, midday, or evening. Did you find any large hoof prints? Will you bow or gun hunt, or both at this location? Looks like you have a great hunting spot. Good luck!
  16. Those are some great looking bucks. I bow hunted in Texas County this past weekend and all I got was bug bites. Good luck this fall!!
  17. That's one way to get your deer home.
  18. I wish I could be out there Saturday morning, but I have family stuff. The weather sounds great!! Hopefully, I'll hit it the next weekend. Good luck everyone and be safe this opening weekend and season!
  19. To get a really good idea on what or what not to take on a flight, look at tsa.gov. Click on "for travelers" towards the top of the screen. It will go over everything.
  20. Looks great, Phil. The "fly fishing" and "fishing" segments are really good and informative.
  21. Terry, Thanks for your encouragement and NOT telling me where the deer are. Good luck in Arkansas!!
  22. I just got notified that I've been selected for a managed deer hunt at Drury-Mincy CA in Taney County. The three-day, muzzleloading hunt is in October. Anyone familiar with the conservation area have any suggestions on where to set up for whitetail at? I went turkey hunting there a couple of years ago, so I'm a little familiar with the place. I know there's a lot of feeding plots throughout the CA, but any prime spots or travel routes? Thanks
  23. That is a dream fish! With your net being too small, how did you land this monster? Jumped on it and wrestled it, perhaps?
  24. Phil, those are some really good looking fish. That brownie is a pig!
  25. I hit the KOA area this morning. Had fun sight fishing with crackerbacks before the wind kicked up a little. Very few people down there for a major holiday weekend. At one point, I had the place pretty much to myself. Sweet! I later went up to the rebar hole area to join the crowd. I should have stayed at the KOA:(
