  1. I drove around that lake for an hour and never did find a public ramp!! would love to know 2 things about it-- I how the heck to you get to the water and for those that have fished it are there any common carp in it?--the state says there are grass carp--but are not sure about common carp MO
  2. Ollie--I work in Neosho --but not at any you have listed---I ride a desk I commute from Carthage --everyday of the work week--and spend lunch catching a few 'bows outa Hickory Creek---I also have a wintertime Brown hole close--that I have caught and released 4 browns over 8 pounds in less than 2 hours---If I told you about it you would never have thought browns where even there Mo
  3. I remember catching bowcuts hybrids a while ago (20 years) unsure why things settled on just 'bows n browns mo
  4. lots of stuff can be bought at bass pro--bait runner reels 9 foot lite rods( I use 9ft bass pro micro lites for trout), baits, hooks--the hook baits for trout--power eggs, power paste bait--gulp corn and gulp maggots have worked very well for me for the longer euro action rods though you can get from cabelas (for trout they have a nice 11 foot live bait rod-)--> or online from 3 sources I have bought from with satisfaction--most of the terminal tackle that is needed is cheap and available there for all you bass guys--try hair rigging a small sluggo better action and hook ups good hooks are important----for trout size 6 and 8 for carp size 4 gami live bait hooks--I like these and they work well--I went through a lot of hooks till I got onto these--trust me--they ARE the choice http://www.wackerbaits.com/ http://www.americancarpsociety.com:8080/ACS/home.jsp http://www.royalcarp.com/Scripts/default.asp
  5. I have not seen any--I do not think we have the water yet
  6. one of the best tricks is to use PVA ( poly vinyl alcohol)--they make webing and bags just for fishing-- stuffed with maggots or trout pellets--which dissolves in water-- many other mixes it is tossed out with you hookbait to drawfish in and keep them feeding here is some better pics on how its used-- the one shot is a bag disolved in an test tank
  7. you can catch them on a rod and reel as well--then you have the option of release--infact there was a recent program on infisherman recently...besides what are you going to do with 15 or 20 ---15O pound dead alligator garfish? Mo
  8. they do not feel the hook until the bait part is swallowed then as they feel the hook the fish trys to expell it and is pricked--one of the reasons the hair is tied the way it is--to have the hook turn in as it is expelled to advance the rig a bit more is the use of the "bolt rig" where as the hook link is fixed to a heavy weight so when the fish "bolts" after feeling the hook--the weight drives it home sounds wierd I know--but it is deadly effective--the bite to getting hooked ratio is well over 85% far better than any thing else I have ever witnessed
  9. The rigging is called a hair rig fish can take the bait without feeling the hook before its too late---it also is less likely for the fish to be gut hooked with this set up to fish paste like powerbait, you tie on a small spring made for such applications--or use a spring from a ball point pen for big preds like record class browns what better than still fishing with a dead bait?
  10. this is the basics this is a rod pod where rods rest with the line running through a bite alarm that beeps when the line moves the alarms are adjustable for sensitivity, beep loudness, and tone so you can tell which rod has a bite plus a lite that comes on when a take is detected--that little feature is very handy at night reels are have a bait runner feature--basically a second drag that lets line come off the reel under tension which is adjustable--it is engaged with a lever in the back and disengages when you reel Okuma makes a small expidor(sp)? reel perfect for trout and handles 4 pound line well
  11. scuttle butt on how the yellow perch got in Bull Shoals is bait bucket release from those that ether A wanted yellow perch in Bull Shoals for catching or walleye fodder OR B where using them for bait for walleyes it would be a great graduate student project to test the DNA and see where the perch came from MO
  12. if you wade shoal creek or hickory creek few people will every try and run you off--it is to my understanding that unless you are camping or something--you have the right of portage---anyway I work near the confluence (sp?) of hickory and shoal creek--its mostly public park and mostly lightly fished (except for the illegals with cast nets!) --work is being done to make more fishable water--but it is very very low right now--and in the summer a place where the local illegal population likes to bathe with a healthy application of soaps and shampoo and the water looks like a greywater discharge at times--hopefull they will ramp up enforcement but don't hold your breath Mo
  13. I find that a polite attitude (along with my over 6 foot 350 pound frame) most folks respond well--it seems that this owner of K-dock--needs a boycott of his business--it amazing how friendly one gets when business is tight--has anyone takin this bloke out to lunch and kindly tell him about his public reputation? most men guard that like the family jewels! MY 2 CENTS MO
  14. I have seen browns that looked as big as King Salmon--had a friend find a floater with a hole in it (gun or bow??) must have been 30 pounds near Rockaway as far as how to catch one of Taneys Monsters I have thought about it for a while going with a dead bait rig probablly a 8 inch shad rigged with a euro quickstrike rig--you would need some big gear to land it--like is used with carp or big pike in Europe- in most waters the biggest browns usally are in waters much wamer than you would think--probablly from powersite up to the start of the no bait area I was looking into the gear(euro) to fish for the record class browns and walleyes near powersite--when I caught the whole carpfever thing--might have to rethink that again Mo
  15. there are 2 strains of walleyes in Missouri--a river strain that is native and gets much much larger--ther state record and world record where undoubtly this souther river strain and a northern lake spawning (generally) strain that usally max out in the very low teens in size if they stocked some of the lake strain they would probably be migrated to the main lake as far as interest--few folks know how to fish for walleyes in TR to catch on a regular basis besides river fishing in spring most time walleye are much to deep for the avg fisherman to luck into the only pattern I have heard of was letting crawlers on a jig sink to bottom near floating docks in the baxter area of the lake I normally see walleyes at twice the depth of bass on Stockton--so you can imagin how deep that would put fish on TR--I bet the lake spawners could be found on chunk rock main lake points at depths from 25-45 in spring to as deep as the O2 will let them go in summer--probably some record class ones in TR-- now just need to work out the most effective pattern---I might have to try jumbo Canada leaches fished drop shot style at 40 foot vertical-at night--I bet a few might be found MO
  16. Gigging rough fish is an old time ozark tradition--but a few bad apples can taint the whole thing its tempting with modern lights/batteries to take those 3lbs + smallies--in waters where trophy possabilies are some better inforcement is needed MO
  17. I live practically on it the spring river that flows into oklahoma---I have never seen a chain pike caught or heard of one--upper reaches do have some wild trout near baptist springs
  18. west plains?
  19. welcome to the nut house mac!--If I new you wanted a few trout--I can put you on tons of the--I even have a euro lite set up just for trout--tiny hair rigs work great with them too--just use wax worms and chum maggots--the tiny hair rig works great to keep them from getting gut hooked--so its easy to release next time you here --I will hook you up Mo PS here is some fish Mac caught when he was in our part of the state heck even the pretty gorls come out when big fish get caught!
  20. Brian I have a spot very very close to you--when it gets right I will holler at you--this last summer--I was dieing to try catching on a fly rod--the spot I fish at was perfect--it would be like stalkin bonefish! in fact it was the same time Macfish was here and the carp where crusing picking up chum--this spot has fish avg arout 12 pounds--if you can handle it--well give it a go this summer Mo
  21. welcome--and we will keep an eye out Mo
  22. Glad to see you here Jonathan--lots of really go folks here Mo
  23. as soon as we get some rain it will bring them up--untill then its a waste of time--water is as low as I have seen it since 1980 Mo
  24. Several years ago I went to the bootheel area of Missouri (Duck Creek) to catch Chain pike. was very happy to catch a 24 inch / 4 pounder that I had mounted--I know some fish are in Current river--anybody ever catch any closer to SW Missouri & NW Arkansas? MO
  25. in my oppinon (My formal training is biology) Table Rock has several un-filled Niches and walleyes would fill one--largemouth will not be effected as the carrying capasity of TR prolly will never be met--also with yellow perch in shoals--I would bet the steping up of walleye stocking is to head off any issues once the get in table rock--look at the big rock bass in the lake I think that increasing tablerocks diversity is good as it spreads the anglers among many fish my 2 cents mo
