AMERICAN CARP SOCIETY, the Trout unlimited of carp angling
MoCarp replied to MoCarp's topic in Throw It Down
Guess you stabbers will find out...it won't hurt you to give up a little here and there....might help a few mom n pop areas make some $ kinda like they do in Waddington NY here this was shown last summer to the city of Canton...many cities all over the country are going this route...sorry dude but the horses are already out of the barn.... -
verb (used with object), naturalized, naturalizing. "to introduce (organisms) into a region and cause them to flourish as if native." http://www.dictionary.com/browse/naturalization That is from the US dept of state....Browns are a bit more widespread and consider more "damaging" than rainbows it seems...browns have been in the US about the same length of time as common carp 150 years give or take, by ANY qualifier they all are "naturalized"...if you don't like it write a letter to TU and see if it can be removed from the INVASIVE list....

I have no-idea...I plan on wearing mine to the next fundraiser.... -
Not my call. I don't classify any trout as "invasive" but naturalized just like common carp...all 3 and LMB as well are list listed in the top 10 most invasive species in the world...call them up and complain https://www.mnn.com/earth-matters/animals/stories/10-most-invasive-fish-species-world
-
so you ARE technically a supporter of non-native invasive fish in Missouri.....don't hate on me its the ICNU here I posted a pic of their t shirt I found below.....nice guys.... I guess drinking and Bfing goes hand in hand....explains the fish points getting shot into docks FFS we all knew you are a Bfer..its why all the hate....its ok..you'll still be able to Bf in places..just not in SOME places..and that REALLY whizzes you guys off...I am sure when they put the trophy regs in Taney a like number of people got salty too...but in time you will be ok with any new carp regs too.... As a side note the BAA is always trying to add more fish they can stab list. perhaps you can join up to add bass walleyes blue and flathead cats or your fav paddlefish!

WOW... such saltyness....they have already have gotten regs changed in several states, the most famous regulation was the 33" limit on Town Lake in Texas....better bank access, some new bag and length limits in CT for 2018...others....some interesting fishing ICONs are EuroFishing for carp.....but its ok it won't cramp your fishing style ..just wave at the people in camo on the bank as you blast by -

it is my understanding incomes generated go completely back into " promoting the sport and ensuring careful stewardship of both the specimen fish and its environment." it could be everything from funding research, purchasing lakes and watersheds....helping with more carp friendly regulations like places with one rod rule...(typical euro set ups are two or three rods) chumming bans, as well as length and bag limits even seasonal protections, all to enhance specimen (trophy) carp angling. what is a trophy? depends... just like a bass in TR an 8# pretty good fish..but in Lake Fork or Okeechobee its 10# or GTFO in our area 20# or 35" or so...Beaver Island MI or St Larry NY 30# DU gets a lot done with 700k members...from what I hear, a lot of people across the pond are keen to donate to the ACS cause... its not a hostile protesting kind of org if thats what your thinking, but more along the lines of Muskies inc, Trout Unlimited, or DU.....The founders are DEF against the current fad of Social Justice Warriors we see today...ACS is based out of Texas and if I was to guess they lean conservative pretty hard.....never asked them who they vote for but see what they have on FB..def red state....sorry if that disappoints you -
passenger pigeons also were hunted with punt guns,...the giant doves were said to blacken the sky with flocks numbering in the millions. habitat loss and over harvest drove them to extinction...however some unsubstantiated sightings are said to have been made in recent years attempts to clone them from stuffed example are being made

I was asked another thread what the American Carp Society was all about why was it even needed so many carp everywhere and all, they used to say that about ducks and buffalo perhaps a little history about another groups goals and with old photos show what motivated these people to actions.. Punt guns used to be legal and 50-100 ducks could be killed it a single shot..... In 1937, Knapp, Robert Winthrop, and a small group of conservation philanthropists decided to focus on the decreasing waterfowl populations, and the habitat necessary to sustain them in Canada, and formed Ducks Unlimited Inc. Now Ducks Unlimited is an American nonprofit organization 501(c) dedicated to the conservation of wetlands and associated upland habitats for waterfowl, other wildlife, and people. It has maintained a worldwide membership of about 700,000 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ducks_Unlimited

I am a bit old anymore for that, am content to admire beauty from a far..... -
Perhaps they should stock big burly brow trout, or something that gets over 10#...wait what??? oh yeah that would be common carp I would love to see more done with smallmouths...I do think that is on their radar..last time I chatted with someone the were taking DNA samples via fin clips....so perhaps more is going on we don't see...I do know that the elk river drainage is of a concern some of the biggest carp in our parts are in the middle stretches of Taney, big carp like cold water Muskies Inc has more pull than wipers/stripers inc..wait what? perhaps a new virus keeps killing them off, modified KHV or LMB virus that jumps species no wonder every 3 white tastes awful from LOZ now now...studies are better than straight folklore....the man seems to know his fish breeding..I think I'd listen to him on that

To those who don't know thats what some Bfers do to the fish they shoot, and illegally release, to avoid reaching to 20 fish limit on Missouri native fish, or dispose of illegal whooped fish like bass, walleyes, muskies, and trout....and do avoid proper fish disposal on other fish like common carp....its a chore to dump 1000# of fish after a long night of drinking beer and shooting fish -
I think they were complaining we were building lakes while drug addicts and their families went hungry
-
do you think pleasure boats have caused less fishing pressure than in the past? or that shore erosion has enhanced the growing potential of the fish by bringing more nutrients into the water?.....

Are aquatic organisms transported by waterfowl?
MoCarp replied to MoCarp's topic in Conservation Issues
You Teach @ Purdue now????? I always wonder how duckweed got started in a pond....... I believe you, I would expect the folklore is mostly that....yet for something like that to happen would have to meet certain requirements, timing for an example...just because it never seemed to happen "unless you forgot the exclusion sock" at your location doesn't mean its impossible, many times organism end up in waters seemingly impossible for man to have put them there on purpose or by accident via hitchhiking...more is going on....and folklore is based on something below is an example perhaps some research $ could be had exploring waterfowl vector possabilities Abstract Aim Patterns of high biodiversity among less mobile organisms throughout isolated locations suggest that passive dispersal importantly contributes to biodiversity. We examined the contribution of waterbirds to the dispersal of plant seeds and macroinvertebrates between aquatic wetlands. Birds are renowned vectors for seeds of terrestrial plants, but less is known about their role in more dispersal-dependent aquatic systems. We therefore performed a meta-analysis on bird-mediated endozoochorous dispersal of aquatic species. Location Our review included studies that collected data world-wide. Methods We analysed data from 81 peer-reviewed publications on endozoochorous dispersal of aquatic plant seeds and macroinvertebrates by waterbirds. Results In total, 36% of 1581 waterbird droppings collected in the field contained one or more intact propagules, with macroinvertebrates found almost as frequently as plant seeds. Positive droppings contained on average 3.3 intact propagules, of which one-third were viable. In 728 trials from 17 published feeding experiments 24% of the ingested propagules were retrieved intact, with c. 6.5% both viable and intact. As many as 17 species of Anatidae and Rallidae were involved in the dispersal of at least 39 species of macroinvertebrates and seeds from 97 species of plants across a wide taxonomic range. Smaller propagules seemed less affected by digestion than larger ones. We provide a first quantitative model that can be used to estimate waterbird-mediated dispersal of propagules between wetlands. This model indicates that an average waterbird has the potential to disperse five viable propagules after flying more than 100 km, and one additional propagule after flying 300 km. Main conclusions We demonstrate that waterbirds have the potential to transport a wide variety of aquatic plants and animals over several hundreds of kilometres. High survival of propagules might be explained by propagule adaptations or by the digestive adaptations of birds, whereby energy absorption is thought to be maximized rather than assimilation efficiency. Our meta-analysis suggests that waterbirds might contribute significantly to wetland biodiversity around the world, despite several limitations to our current knowledge. We outline avenues for future research to address these knowledge gaps. http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/jbi.12004/abstract -
Amazing, we all see things that is hard for others to imagine "unless your were there"..here is one of those rare time something amazing gets caught on video

Are aquatic organisms transported by waterfowl?

Virginia Institute of Marine Science, Arizona State University, George Mason University are not in Europe and the last post on that thread was 8 months ago...there are scientists from all over the world on this thread alone and this site is well respected....there are several studies listed dry reading, but peer reviewed none the less ."Skimming through any scientific literature is exactly why some people flunk out or at best get a lower grade" I can still hear that being said in my 1st Biology class, I was disappointed when I only received a high B...the professor consoled my concerns ( he knew I was a bio major ) the bulk of the class had scores in the single digits to low 20s........ I have spent a while studying these types of fisheries related subjects..and still keep up and respect those in academia, poo poo it if you will but the evidence is there...IMHO remote waters get inoculated via water fowl..but the bulk hitchhikers on water craft and water retained on watercraft and trailers it should be noted common carp feed heavily on zebra mussels where both occur together...I feel going forward we will deal with them in fresh water just like they deal with barnacles in salt/brackish water... -
