usually to catch the big lumps takes different tactics, just like fishing for big bass, got to weed out the lil fellows..sweet corn on a hook on a bass rod will land you some carp......a 50"er.....well....seen big carp yank a reel right of the rod seat!

Here are some ground bait chum ideas chicken scratch spiked with hempseed, instead of the oatmeal to the boiled corn chops..a turkey frying pot works great....add a packet of red pepper like you get when you order pizza, about a table spoon to you mix..Capsicum is a carp attractant don't overdo flavors, less is better than too much Calf manna and layers pellets are good in a PVA...make boilies with some of the pellets for your hook baits, mana pellets are great for Buffs.

wow must have thought it was a bad weekend son!!!! "BENNETT SPRING CHECKPOINT: Conservation agents and DNR park rangers conducted a wildlife checkpoint this past Friday at Bennett Spring State Park. During the check MDC agents and DNR park rangers contacted 660 vehicles resulting in 23 citations for numerous offenses such as, fishing with no permit, keeping brown trout with illegal length, exceeding the limit of trout you can keep daily, and many more. It seems some waters produce more mirrors....but they are still rare, kinda special to catch one, like most fish they weigh the most prespawn, but anytime you are liable to catch bigger fish....if you target them. Once it gets hot.....fishing long stretches is harder on the fisherman...I still enjoy night fishing for that reason...Sometimes your bait needs to lay on bottom a very long time to get a truly big fish to take....pre-baiting your swim with boilies over a week or two helps get them feeding on potential hook baits, its pretty easy and cheap to make up a few pounds...I usually chum with ground bait and toss in about a hand full of boilies with it... A favorite ground bait mix I use is 1/2 oats 1/2 boiled corn chops, the boiled chops swell up and get sticky... I drain off the extra water add the oats and make fist size balls. I lob them out with a baiting spoon, making golf ball size to shoot them out with the catapult...bait up a 5gal bucket of chum and a hand full of boilies every 3rd day till you fish. It will get them coming and feeding with confidence.. you should see bubbles and breaching fish in the area you chum .No offense to the bow fishermen.... but try and keep chumming on the down low and don't share the WHERE you do this as you might get shot out before you ever get to fish, always chum at least 10 foot depth to make the area less vulnerable to your swim getting hit. below is a good vid on the subject https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xS5EKYkC9Bo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgFi5PK2FAY

Our "ever-growing" problem starting to get some attention in the Media
MoCarp replied to skeeter's topic in Table Rock Lake
I think it has gotten so bad at LOZ those "tuna boaters" are heading to other lakes TR being a prime place....why do you think they changed the dock rules??? can look at it this way, it will make fishing harder...so when its too cold to play on the lake the fish we catch will be bigger! -
When I 1st started carp fishing seriously, I found the only way to catch bigger fish (those over 20 pounds) fishing at night in our clear Ozark waters. I had thought it was because thats when the bigger fish were most active. I found out over time the fish are spooker in day, because they SEE whats going on..with the advent of underwater cameras its easy to see big commons actually look at your rig, and feed around it avoiding your hook bait...at night they are limited on what they can see..... Common Carp have sensor cells in their fins, lots of times they will cruse through a detritus area with their pectoral fins flared to waft up bits and insects then come back and hoover them up. they also will move over a chum or detritus bed and "taste" whats it is by caressing the potential food items with their fins. This cautious feeding behavior is more prevalent in larger older fish (one reason they get that size). if its a competitive feeding event, fish don't have the time to be as selective, you either grab it or go hungry. One reason I worked on making a competitive feeding environment with the chum I use. The adage chum little and often is relevant here. Rigging becomes much more important if your target is the largest specimen carp. the Ronnie Rig is my go to if I am targeting a personal best out of the water I am fishing. It allows stealth and a quality hook set very important, because another seeming trait of the biggest carp is better fighting ability, getting off a few times definitely wises them up. Once watched one go to a log and rub out the hook in its lip! Another note as they (as well as catfish) sometimes seem to act like an electric shock hit them when they came in contact with monofilament line...no so much with braid...going to mono mainline with braid hook length materials really help up my catch rates. DAM dude......the LOZ effect....its why I bitched about the bar they opened at Stockton Lake, its a magnet for the LOZ crowd....TR is going to poops city.....someone will get killed by these boat Tsunamis if they haven't already..... -
Whisky Tango Foxtrot! Boiled Bacon????

lol NO thats work man..........I know lots or weird fish studies...drum make lots of noise...and Flatheads do as well, watch them at bass pro tank everything gets outta their way when they get to snapping their jaws...studies on fish communication is just starting...it is rumored some bass pros have played the sounds of fish feeding on shad through a subwoofer mounted like a transducer. It would be a rocking $ invention!!!! Its my understanding some big money electronics companies are funding research of this type...

TABLE ROCK #15 IN CENTRAL DIVISION BY BASS
MoCarp replied to magicwormman's topic in Table Rock Lake
It seems different fish get stunned depending on a lot of factors, I know at LOZ below Truman dam, that the really big blues didn't get stunned as easy..so MDC biologists used hand lines to catch and tag monster blues....walleyes once shocked can abort spawning..If the Shock boat headed up to the dam at Truman you could see walleyes floating down...those days you might as well went home.seemed it took 10-12 hours after a pass for the fishing to return to normal........ Beaver lake (KY) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5TQL3mIEdnA TN https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0rdRSC6xPo MN..interesting that common carp are studied and released... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfrTqIdS3HI TX heres one on flatheads https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_uZibWbItE -
This was interesting.... "Humans are noisy creatures, our cacophony of jet engines and jackhammering drowning out the communications of other species. In response, a number of animals, including marmosets and whales, turn up their own volume to be heard above the din, a phenomenon called the Lombard effect. A new study reveals that even fish “shout.” Researchers took a close look at the blacktail shiner (Cyprinella venusta), which is common to freshwater streams of the southeastern United States and whose short-distance acoustic signals are often exposed to boat and road noise. Only male shiners make sounds; popping sounds called knocks are used aggressively toward other males, while staticky-sounding “growls” are used for courtship, both heard in the above video. When the scientists brought the fish back to the lab and cranked up white noise from an underwater amplifier, they found that shiner males emitted fewer, shorter pulses, and cranked up the volume of their acoustic signals to be heard above background noise. Published in Behavioral Ecology, it’s the first study documenting the Lombard effect in fish, suggesting that freshwater fish are another group potentially impacted by our ever-increasing hubbub." http://www.sciencemag.org/news/2014/09/video-fish-shout-be-heard-above-human-noise

I take it you smoke?

The pinkish color comes from a pigment called astaxanthin which is in crustaceans. The trout eat these freshwater crustaceans and insects and that's how you get that color of the meat, stockers take time to eat enough before they "color up".....

I have "bitched" about 2 things my opposition to a potential noisy wake generating "Branson jet boat tour" and a Bar that hold concerts till late at night on what arguably one of the most pristine impoundments in the state of Missouri...if you look "since I came back" the bulk of my content is sharing about fishing, granted in ways that might not interest you... I have always had "internet adversaries" because of my "Euro-carping vs Bow fishing" because of the perceived threat of regulations that limit unfettered unlimited bow fishing...... The circles I run with HAVE changed regulation notable the establishing of a trophy carp fishery at Ladybird lake (formally Town lake) in Austin Texas.... So much so a bow fishing group organized a shoot in the area I helped organized for the euro-carping group I was in.. The event was even announced in The Conservationist Magazine . Fish avg in the mid-upper teens with a crack at fish over 20#, in-fact the CO of the area whom I consulted leading up to our event, was called to that area a few days before our Fish-in to weigh a possible state record common....No joy as it only weighted in the upper 40's (state record is 50 lbs. 6 oz.) The bow-fishermen group took out a dumpster of the biggest fish a week before....Our event was still held, we caught lots of fish..but the average size crashed, fish averaged 6-8 pounds!.....dink city as far as carp go.....I will tell you had they not shot up the place it WOULD have became another " Ladybird lake". people would have spend money just like they do in Texas just to catch carp. with that, new regulations........ask Jim M who posts here how big the fish ran.. he spend many a night catching fish there. http://forums.ozarkanglers.com/topic/2433-carp-fishing-event/ The bulk of my posts here have been of a tutorial nature....look them up....

I have been on a shock survey before..its amazing how many fish come up.... http://www.ozarksfirst.com/news/electrofishing-monitoring-missouris-fish-population -
My opposition is.... I have seen what happens when you give an inch...LOZ...now TR....there are many ways to achieve a political win....... If you are a child of the younger generation..I applaud you for enjoying the outdoors....I hope you get more of your friends to do so as well as time goes on you will evolve, and see why you enjoy the outdoors..and the things that will hurt your experience, jobs come and go....trust me on that.... I have seen exploitation of small things that then grew into larger things....I don't have to like some of the growth....like I said in another post...if one person takes a dump under your deer stand its annoying.....but when a 100 pinch a loaf....time to effect some changes
-
No...that post is for those who thinks its funny...if your not, let it run off your back.......no need to get testy

Now now....most days if you met me you would like me....and no it isn't any of my business... but if I sold crak...it would corrupt anything I said about the good parts of using said crak...metaphorically speaking I can't help your formative years were under an administration that rewarded the mediocre..... its truly not your fault. Im sure I can met you at the lake sometime..can I bring a cow?????
