mbass81 ... if you bring some small twister tails of any kind in white, yellow,or green. and have the kids cast to the bank at the waters edge( you will ware them out with sun fish) and for the tug of war contest!.. stop at every root ball you come too... and don't forget the camera!!

i helped with a" river clean-up" last weekend over there, had some 200 floater's pick-up all the trash... we didn't come across anything too bad. but lots of trees cross ways, but we never had to get out of the canoes . most of the people were first timers in our group of 40 canoes. we only floated 3 1/2 miles due to the james being too high at shelvin rock..

SEE WHAT A LITTLE CATCH RELEASE CAN DO GUYS!! .........that's a sweet one there buddy!

how long can you hold air under water?......... thats how long of a time span you have to save someone?

the class III ,thats where clabberd creek enters to the buffalo, and the start of the new fishing size limit starts .... oh, alot of damage has been done with the high water!! in some spots the river just plowed up the center and made new channels . at buffalo point it took out the whole put in! road and all! it even took out the bank under some camping sites, making them unsafe to use. the park service has been working there magic, but still it's all different looking from the water! large trees stacked up in the air some 30 feet along the bluff lines at spring creek. i just wanted you to have the heads-up for your trip! to be aware, and just keep an eye open ! the buffalo is a place with all kinds of things to wreck a weekend! and then it also can be the best time of your life!

the old river is not what it use to be! after two huge flooding events back to back.. the gauge system is all changed form the past... the river has moved gravel bars ...it just washed them away! the upper sections just have big rocks, no sand at all . note....the first rapid below rush is a class III.... and as bad as the river looked, i would be on my toes in the wilderness section !!

water was pretty brown sat. and sun. . think deep!

how are you paddling skills? are you ok on class II water ? and how small are the kids? next, if you dump over, can you, your wife, and little ones, swim in fast moving water ?? because you won't be falling out in dead still water anywhere on the upper sections (boxley to ozark) the rain we had last night put 4 inches of water on top of the ponca bridge... closing the river to renters ,but it's dropping slowly... and the rain is coming back sunday through weds..... so we could be in a flooded stage. ....... outfitter (keller kanoes/ jesse jefferson is the new owner) 870- 446-2644 ... maybe a raft would be better ,slower but safer with kids!! i'm going in the morning to buffalo point for the weekend, and i'll post up sunday night, or monday

well it's got to be going on !! as i was run off the road by the wagontrain of aluminum boats at day-lite this morning about 15 total, going to wareagle , .... and it could be the crappie hunters!!!! not sure of the water at war eagle creek but the lake is brown! at point 12 and most of the way up stream in the white river

friday we were on the water at 10 or so and never saw any canoe campers , but we ran the same section on sat. (a double run)and alot of the good spots to camp had groups on them? so an early start will get you a spot ...that is if the friday camper have moved on! bring your river map so you will have some idea of how far the next bend in the river will be, and you should have a good gravelbar as a rule.. again we are waiting for thunder storms to start up .the river has dropped some 15 to 18 inches since we started this post and 25 inches since sat. a good friend has bought KELLERS KANOES at marble falls just south of dog patch on hwy 7 south . (JESSE JEFFERSON) 870-446-2644 he will be a name and number to stick-away some place our shuttle from ozark to kyle's was less than 3 gallons of gas!!! he picked us up at ozark and took gear and canoe's to kyle's and dropped us off. and we floated back to our camp site at ozark . tell him( painterbob )told you to ask for the "hook-up" deal!..... the deal comes when he has to fill in between runs up or down the road to put ins... times will be 11:00 or after then again he will move your car too if you have the extra set of keys!.... and i get cheaper shuttles for sending folks. it's a win win for all....http://www.usairnet.com/cgi-bin/launch/code.cgi?Submit=Go&sta=KHRO&state=AR ......andhttp://www.buffaloriver.com/riverlevel.aspx

just got home from a two day trip, and on the kyle's to ozark section there are a few nasty things to watch for. one being a large tree in a corner that took out almost every renter on friday , you could make it, but you needed to catch the eddy water and spin right in front of the tree, and then continue another was below eurbie ford, large trees all over !!! in a bottle-neck area of the river with fast current that ended up bad if you shot down the wrong side of the rootballs or tree trunks ....about all i can say is to be looking two moves ahead!! and either back paddle like mad , or beach it fast!!!we took a group of 9 on friday of early birds and 34 on sat. the outcome was 40% (swimmers) beer with water conditon being the factors!and it was very cool in the late afternoon ? the put in on sunday at ponca bridge was wall to wall and a line waiting to get into the parking area at 9:30am. on my way home. fishing was slow with a afternoon bite being the most productive time i think it was the warm-up of the water that triggered the bite's but they were few and far between , and deep!.............. hope it helps you?

all of our rivers are primed, and any run-off, or excess water will PUMP IT BACK UP! we had some good rain last night and you should see some rise in the next few hours ...i don't think it was a enough to flood at all. but you need to be aware..... think safe! >>>> and yes the section above the ponca bridge is very playful in white water boats large waves trains and some limestone slides and drops the test is if you can make it through the willow jungle at the start of the run.... i may be on the side of caution, as i'm into my second class for my moving water instruction certification... and i just wanted to be helpful to someone new to class II waters... for the last 4 weekends we have pulled so many people out of the river and gathered there gear , boat, kids, and dogs. it's not funny. and it takes all the fun out of it when your soaking wet, cold, and 6 miles from the take-out a few hours before dark!
-
can you say SPINNERBAIT!......... the lake move into the woods..... drive slow don't hit a picnic table.... that is if you can find a ramp! .....tons of wood floating >>>> well it's not that bad but close. some big bass were yanked out of the trees last weekend
-
i could be wrong , but i think she means the eurbie ford ? because you can't make it down to the ponca bridge with camping gear!.......... the upper is almost class III WATER ? and the river is dropping fast! and unless we do get some rain you better be thinking ( mid river) like carver to woolum to gilbert or tyler bend roads are in bad shape , rangers, with chain saws were out last week cutting out downed trees out of the way . and if we do get rain, the last one was 3 inches. and it was 9 feet on top of the ponca bridge, and 38 ft down river a few hours later . so if you get caught in a flash flood some places are too steep to climb out of, and there is no way you could pull a canoe up high enough? and that rain doesn't have to be falling on (you), for you to be in trouble! if you self shuttle make sure you make a float plan and give it to someone that could start the phone calls on monday morning?.....isn't a bad idea. or at least stop in at an outfitter with your game plan....>>>>> oh, the river beta's.... they come from us! >~~~~ small world out there!
-
man, if you had just come up a few days earlier you could have watched us boofing off of it in white water canoes!
-
no showers at eurbie! the road back in is about 8 miles long . it's a good road not too steep, not to rough.... another jewel is carver, i never see many campers at that one! ( the only showers are at tyler, and buffalo point) the launch area at tyler was washed away! all the sand and gravel are gone! the bottom of buffalo point put in is gone!!! the bottom 2/3 of it anyway the road to bakerford and too woolum are rough the roadgrader was heading that way.... the river is different looking on the upper sections all that is left behind are large round rock , no sand. no gravel. the water ripped the banks off the sides and it looks bad.... floating down the river looking up 12 to 18 feet in the air, seeing logs just dangling ,and leave wads way to high up, up in tree branches. i have not floated anything lower than kyles. but i have been running the boxley to ponca and then on to kyles section the past few weekends.. i'm heading down to buffalo point this weekend and i will post my findings at that time!

there stacked up in richland creek!!! the creek in warmer than the white river, and has cleared some

saw them lined up along the hwy 45 (twin bridges) and as the lightning started at dark, a large group,..... a convoy of aluminum boats came from the point 12( war eagle arm) area .so i would say yes ,it's time so start making some trip plans

the river was fast! we had a 8.5 mph pace on gps. floated from spring creek to hwy 14 bridge (dillards ferry) in 45 minutes , then on sat we traveled the same route but went to rush........ fast fast fast!!!
-
saw three striper boats heading way up war eagle arm???? gotta wounder!
-
the car were lined-up along the road! at twin bridges last night!!! the water color is a milky jade at hwy45 in wareagle it's all brown around point 12 and lots of wood floating around

thats a great level ! .... for that section. nothing too spooky, but it is a class II AT THIS LEVEL>>> AND YOU DO NEED GOOD BOAT SKILLS, that run is full of deep holes i'm going to be with a large group from the arkansas canoe club down river and we are camping friday night at spring creek and then floating to rush spending one night on a gravel bar some place around tony's bluff. feel free to tag along with us if you want to!
