fished the upper, kyle's to Ozark fri and sat. the water level was as low as you would want ..nothing on the first 5 miles but the water changed color around the eurbie ford. and fishing picked up! we used small crawdad crankbaits and ended up with 6 to 8 keeper size. but so many 10 to 13 inch fish it wasn't funny.most of the fish were in the pools right below the rapids on the drop off into deep water was a key factor. the deep jade color pools in the slack waters produced the most. we sat on one hole for most of the morning on sat. and pulled out one after another out I'm pretty sure it was the same fish we caught over and over!!!

lots of trolling going on in war eagle arm. 6 boats before day lite half a dozen on the road....side note## my dog wood just popped open!! this will be the weekend i bet... the water color is muddy green looking
-
9 1/2 hp outboard motors are aloud all the way up to the Eurbie ford . not that i would, but it is legal
-
i figure if you paddle some, and fish some you can cover about 6 to 8 miles pretty easy per day . but the trick is not to have to race to the end to finish your trip .. you can also make a 8 mile trip last 3 days .... plus, faster water = more miles, kind'a thing..same with an early put on, and a late camp set up. this time of year alot of people have the same idea. sometimes it's hard to find a camp "good" spot.

it's not hard to dance with the river ....you just need to know the steps!!!
-
boxley to ponca can be done as low as 18 inches of air space it's a 4 1/2 mile run . (i would not run it in loaded canoes for camping but that's me!!)and as for portage below ponca? never have had to get out you might need to plant your paddle in the rocks a few times to push across some gravel. but if it's that low i would move down stream to float
-
Have you ever seen the extreme Arkansas whitewater ???.... well, yes i have.about three times a month when i go paddling with them!
-
muddy, wrote..Sounds like fun....but it's going to storm Friday night and Saturday. I hope you are prepared......>>> they will be soooo prepared!>>> you do realize they are the biggest white water group of mo. right? ....(open mouth, and insert foot).

Out Of State Fishing License And Regulations
bobber replied to float fisher's topic in Buffalo River
float fisher, you want to hunt out root balls!!....in front, and on the back sides.. goggle eye bonanza!!!. the pan fish love yellow rooster tails and small jigs same color.tight to the steep banks! i fish ultralite with 4 lbs test green line... works for me! hope this helps you? -
you might have to drag a few spots but you would have to anyway on anything in the upper sections if there's low water. not as many people float that section so a shot at some good fish are better.another section would be carver to woolum or bakers ford because of the shuttle. not to many use this section . you have to remember that is summer, millions of floaters use the lower river Tyler bend to rush as all the upper stuff shuts down. everything shifts down stream to those outfitters.... i would take out at ships ferry on the white river it's down stream from the mouth of the buffalo river about 5 miles . an easy paddle down stream instead of trying to fight your way up stream against the current, during periods of generation from bull shoals dam. you can hit me back up as you get closer to the trip and we can up-date conditions for you at that time!!

your chances of "bigger fish" will be in the wilderness section( the last 35 miles) less traffic and almost no fishing pressures. makes for a great 3 day trip
-
have not been fishing in a while. the river has come up so muddy water will take over for a few days . but i'm in the feeling that the cool water still has them hunkered down. but with air temps in the 60* it will change soon.
-
the water is prime! we got 13 1/2 inches of snow.in fayetteville area. almost no rain. with the warm temps coming this week it will be wild!!. and will be close to flood levels..pack extra drygear and expect to swim! http://waterdata.usgs.gov/ar/nwis/uv/?site_no=07055646&PARAmeter_cd=00065,00060 watch this level climb !at 4 foot your flooded out! no rental boats will be put on the river.
-
yes, it can be done without any problems at all!
-
lots of that river has changed . but, when clabber is pumping out run off into the buffalo that is a class III rapid . below bakers ford there is a new drop making it almost a III at the right level. the old gray rock is a thing of the past now ,and it's the big lime stone slid just before it. two section below kyle's landing the whole river shifted from left bank to the right . and a eddy pool that takes a few times around it to break free from the current. below boxley the river is starting to move into a willow patch with no way through it. ....things are changing!! soon the new gauges with CFM's will be out... AL, when was the last time you paddled the ole' buffaloriver?... the 60's ?..... it's 2010
-
that one would be a class III ...i belive there is a" sneek down" along the river left side.
-
you would enjoy anything down river from Tyler bend camp ground ,and visitor center. for canoe camping. it's easy moving water. buffalo point another great camp ground both have showers. both have hiking trails. as do most camp grounds, I'm not a hikers. sorry! no help.. but, you could also brake up the trip and hike on the upper end of the river and see if you want to canoe it.. because the trials run along the river .. and camp at Steel creek, kyles or Eurbie or Ozark. .... just and idea?
-
boxley to ponca is a whitewater run only! if you don't get pinned in the willow jungle you'll be swamped by large wave trains!! ponca to kyles is still a whitewater run(some swimming happens) , kyles to eurbie is a fast water section. eurbie to ozark, pruit, or hasty, is a good for anyone run! carver to rush is a slower section with long pools ...kinda sum's it up in fast way...spring time camping at kyle's is a zoo! plus the road is bad, you can smoke a set of brakes just going in....if it was me going for the first time i would camp in a campground and day trip the river! you won't lose any stuff plus you have dry stuff to camp in safe and sound.but if you wanted to gravel bar camp i would pick eurbie to hasty or carver you get a little of it all on that section. this river is rated as a classII RIVER.. i work for buffalo river canoes @ (floatthebuffalo.com )as the safety directior.... it's my job to make sure you have a good time! i hope this helps you some? i had to rush it i'm late for my real job!!

went to a meeting about the gas drilling in the fayetteville shale. seem the big gas company's don't give a dam about our water quality and back wood streams. with silt run off as the lease of the worries, or making dams for big trucks to cross small tributaries. (a land owners creek stoped flowing.) did you know they inject THERE home brew of toxic materials deep into the ground?thousads of gallons,85 trucks lined up to dump and have the right not to divulge the contains of this? I'll have some more on this . it's a big problem that is being kept on the down low . the game and fish have a damage report due out about some big fish kills, from a land owner that is being threatened for taking photos, and reporting the problems. anyone in the "DAMAGE AREA'S " SEEN ANY OF THIS??
