  1. I'm planning a trip down to taney this thanksgiving and i wanted to try crane creek if i could. i have no idea if its fishable right now and don't want to waste a drive from branson if its not. if it is, what would be my best bet as far as bugs and presentation go? thanks -randall
  2. well don't i feel smart... the name seemed odd, but the post did seem legit.
  3. gotta love the vikadin mixed with alcohol
  4. ooooh, pretty. did you catch that at taney?
  5. in certain places- outlet 2 for example, foul hooking a fish unintentionally happens fairly often, especially when there are 25 people fishing a hole thats big enough for about 6. are you sure they were intentionally snagging or could they have been foul hooking on accident?
  6. hey bro... secrets are secrets... if i told everybody how to catch hogs like this there wouldn't be any left for me and terry. by the way center punch... i grew up in cuba... go wildcats
  7. i caught it at montauk in early august
  8. not quite as big as terry's, but here's my hog how'd you get the picture that big?
  9. okay, but what would cause it to get like that?
  10. somebody's scared okay, here goes... the supreme court decided the case on appeal by the state. the respondents (not the state) say that it is unconstitutional for the state to require photo identification- which costs money to obtain- they say 3 to 4% of missourians who are otherwise qualified to vote would not be allowed. they say that requiring photo identification is no different than requiring voters to pay a fee to vote. they also were somehow -and i have no idea how-able to prove that voter fraud was not a problem here. the trial court that first heard the case ruled in favor of the petitioners, the state appealed. the state supreme court affirmed the decision, meaning nobody has to show identification to vote in missouri.
  11. http://www.courts.mo.gov/courts/pubopinion...7a?OpenDocument heres the mo supreme court's decision on the topic... i'm doing an internship with prosecutor up here and he wanted me to find the decision for him... super long and redundant but easy enough to understand
  12. tying them for personal use is fine. i say this because i like to tie and enjoy catching fish on flies i tie. if i am capable of re-producing a fly, i'll do it. if a commercial tyer wants to sell it, he should at very least give credit to the originator either by adding the originators name to the name of the bug or telling his customers when they ask about it. taking credit for something you did not design is wrong, but there is no reason a commercial tyer shouldn't make a profit from a fly he tied whether he designed it or not. i'd compare the use of another tyer's design to the manufacture of similar products by other industries. i doubt ford, gm, and chrysler all simultaneously came up with the idea of a pickup truck, yet they all produce similar products that are used for the same purposes, without question of ethics. i know that ALL commercial tyers use patterns they did not design. whats the difference between producing older patterns that everybody knows how to tie that someone else designed and producing a new pattern that is not so well known that somebody else designed? just my opinion
  13. that wasn't about 2-3 miles west of cuba was it?
  14. i've never had a problem on taney with people being rude, and only a handfull at most at the parks. my experience is that the fishermen on taney are more experienced and easier to get along with and learn from. about the worst i've seen on the lake was a lady yell at my buddy for holding a nice brown out of the water while we took a picture. the bait fishing areas of the parks can get tense from time to time, but its been about two years since i've had a confrontation at meremec, and i just stay away from those areas at montauk and bennett.
  15. don't feel bad phil, i have no idea what that was either.
  16. slow slow slow... fished about 8 hours, landed 3 fish- all over 12", lost 2. i came in at cardiac around 6 hoping for some dry action, but i never saw much in the way of rises to the small trico hatch. caught one on a daves hopper later on, so there was a little surface action. one thing i noticed when i did hook up was that none of the fish really fought, they just went to the bottom and shook their heads a little. canoers weren't bad, but i had one guy park his boat right above where i was fishing and start casting a 6" rapala right across where i was trying to fish. fishing might have been slow, but i couldn't have asked for a better day, plus the critters were out and i got to see both a muskrat and a mink play around for a while. i almost forgot, i got the hopper and some advice from another fisherman. its acts like that that make fly fishing better and more enjoyable for newer, less experienced fly fishermen... thanks
  17. right on... you were gone a while before i got here. we floated this weekend and it was a ball, thanks for help.
  18. hey thanks a lot for the info... i think we're gonna try the eagles nest because there was a bar tender down there that is one of our alumni. when did you teach at central? what division?
  19. i went down the monday after, as soon as class got out, caught 20-25 trout, and 1 minnow in 3 hours (1-4)... so many fish it was ridiculous. i had the guy next to me say that he'd never seen anybody catch so many fish, let alone on a flyrod. i did have one take me all over bathroom hole before he threw the hook. i had 5x tippet on and was worried he was gonna break me off, so there were some big ones in there, i don't know about 10lb though. of the 4 i brought back for supper, none was under 14", the biggest was a hair under 17. all real fat too. i had moderate success swinging and stripping a crackleback, a bead head pheasant tail worked well, but the copper john got me 4 landed, one lost in 6 casts. they actually liked the copper john better than the powerbait. my inicator would be literally 2 feet behing the guy's next to me and just i'd get hit... nuts.
  20. i'm planning this year's fraternity float trip and was wondering if anybody knew about the "eagles nest", i think i was told. its where they went last year, but nobody still has their contact information. i appreciate any info. thanks.
  21. what are they doing? it looks like they hooked each other or something. whats up with the rod tossing?
  22. oooooooooh... pretty looks real fat and healthy. whats the length and girth?
  23. this'll be my first year not being able to hunt since i was in middle school. my buddies dad came up earlier this week and killed a 26 1/2 pound 11" beard on tuesday. he said its the biggest bird he's ever seen killed. as soon as i get a pic on my computer i'll post it.
  24. i don't understand why they can't reproduce in taney. does the hatchery get water from a different place than the tailwater? the generation disturbing beds makes sense to me, but with little to no generation, why wouldn't they be able to reproduce? i dunno, i just don't get it.
  25. the ones i used were white bodies, size 16 i think. wish i was gonna be down there, but i got a thesis proposal, a ten pager, and an art history project due before the end of next week. catch a fish and drink a beer or three for me.
