For my drive to wherever, i listen to country- i like the stuff from the early to mid '90s. cross canadian ragweed (ccr jr.) is good too. the nature thing is good and all, but i almost never fish with somebody else and i've been tempted to buy an ipod and load some good country on it for when i'm on a stream with nobody around all day. i can't believe nobody has mentioned talking to new people on here. thats one of my favorite things to do when i go to places like taney or a park. i totally agree with the cell phone comments. i carry mine for emergencies and will leave the water if i choose to answer it... of course the last time i answered the phone while fishing, my ex broke up with me.

i have to call meramec springs my home waters because i learned how to trout fish there. i like taney and the current river more, but i have too many memories at meramec.

dano, i have several boxes... large foam boxes for streamers, smaller foam boxes for some nymphs, and compartment boxes for small nymphs, midges and dries. there probably is no perfect box, but there are boxes perfect for certain uses. i know you know more than i do about fly fishing, but i realized not long after i started that like in most other markets, there are products out there that perform well in some aspects, but not in others. the best way to obtain the desired performances is to buy several different products that offer each of the characteristics you want and use them together so that each product is used for its individual strength. without a doubt, others will post that this box or that box is the complete package, but in reality it won't offer everything.

give some love to cuba. we have a super 8, holiday inn express, and a best western. its a short drive down 19, then 8 highway to the park, plus there's some good places to eat and the bars are pretty decent too.

i left the house at about 2 this morning, planning to fish through wednesday, and rolled in to the parking lot at the dam as the sun was coming up. when i got there they were running three generators, so i flicked a scud in outlet 2 until about 11 during which time they kicked it up to four, then back down to three. fishing was streaky... i caught a lot of little guys and two browns in the 15-17" range. i broke for lunch and got a motel room for two nights and took a nap- first sleep in 24 hours. i got up around 2:30 and went back to the dam where they were still running every bit as heavy as in the morning. i decided to go to the boat ramp and play around down there rather than deal with the outlets. after an hour of nothing, i gave up and went back to my truck that wouldn't start. i spent another hour trying to start it, but i had a pretty good idea what the problem was, so i flagged down a complete stranger and had him turn it over while i beat on the gas tank... she started right up.-- fuel pump. i promptly went back to the motel, packed up, checked out, and headed for my mom's. just for good measure, i called the generation number to see what they were doing when i rolled into my mom's place in cuba... zero units running- woulda been great for fishing tonight. my stepdad and i are gonna replace the pump ourselves, so it won't be ridiculously expensive, plus, i have a chance to put much needed new shocks on the truck, so it's not a total waste.

when i go to meramec i usually see some relatively big- several inch long sculpins swimming around in the slow moving places. never seen one caught though. neat.

imagine that, a king being called the richest man to ever live

the ones i have are called glacier gloves. i picked em up at bps in columbia last winter for pretty cheap, like $10 or so. don't think i've seen em since, but i haven't really been looking. they've been clutch at work too.

or just go in acting retarded and sling lures every which way

people do stuff like that all the time in crowded areas. i was at meramec last summer and while i was casting a guy walked right behind me where i couldn't see him and i hooked him. he admitted that he saw me casting and knew he shouldn't have walked close behind me but did anyway. the rest of the day, any time i would walk by him or he walked by me, he would say something smart and gave me the feeling that had more than a little contempt for fly fishermen. at least at taney and the parks with fly only areas nobody treats fly fishermen as unwelcome guests.

please school me on using an indicator
Randall replied to polock's topic in General Flyfishing Topics
place the indicator as far up your tippet as you want your fly to be down in the water column. when you fish it, make real sure there is no drag because the fly won't look right to the fish. from personal experience, do not use those indicators that have a toothpick in them, they create huge messes. biostrike is okay but kind of a pain. jeremy hunt turned me on to the stick on foam indicators because they are easy to use and and don't create huge messy knots when you cast. hope this helped -
i can't post any pics for some reason, but i have a whole album here: http://cmc.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2001...mp;id=141500488 nice fish topjaw

i did really well on my last taney trip with neopreme gloves from bps that had a folding thumb and index finger to allow for dexterity. i just put a hand warmer between my hand and glove and my hands never got cold. it was cold... 26 according to the radio. there is a thin fleece lining that wicks sweat away for the dryness factor.

is there any way to not allow a profile to post without the e-mail validation, and/or automatically delete the profile if it goes for say 3 days without validating? i don't really know if that's possible, but its a thought.

i agree, unless the water is dirty or it is dark, flouro is your best bet. i've been told that it is harder for the fish to see, especially when the water is gin clear

those people are ridiculous. they talk about how horrible it is to take the life of an animal, or to use them for sport. if you take a good look at nature, animals do far worse to each other than hunters or fishermen. cats play with their food, making death anything but quick and painless; i know i'd rather be shot by a hunter than killed by a mountain lion or a pack of dogs or wolves; fish may feel a hook, but they are generally returned unharmed and sometimes caught multiple times in one day- obviously not too disturbed- also, other predators such as turtles and herons do far worse damage to fish they injure than a little hook ever could. lets not forget the fact that people are part of nature, and that we are omnivores, not herbivores, not to mention the fact that we are the top of the food chain. i absolutely despise people that have nothing better to do than find something to bitch about, inject their opinion where it is not welcome, and demonize those that disagree with them. okay, i'm done venting.

i think he means that the artificial you throw should be one size larger than the natural in the water.
-
i think he's talking about that thing we do when we're not fishing... wait, i think thats called hunting... good to have you here krush

thanks for the reply, i'm gonna try some of those out a little off topic, but are you doing a class tuesday? i'll be down camping and want to catch it if you're doing it.

Rockbridge is where i learned to flyfish... its a super nice place, but unless you're ready to eat trout for the next year you can only get about an hour on the water. i'm not sure where highlandville is, but we used to stay in gainesville which was only a few minutes from the trout farm. On their site they said they are working on a catch and release area, but it hasn't been updated in over a year, so you might want to check it out... www.rockbridgemo.com the name of the place is the rainbow trout ranch they also have sporting clays and bird hunting if you're into that

whats the recipe for the one on the lower left? it does look more realistic.
