  1. Short is going to split time between fishing and golf. He'll be playing soon with me and Jerry at a course near you.
  2. I suspect this has to do with the oxygen level below 25 feet being almost nonexistent, therefore nearly all of the fish are up where anglers can get to them.
  3. Good luck to you and the other UA anglers, Ryan.
  4. What the heck are you guys talking about?
  5. You can actually buy the same size Pumpkin Ed head with three different sizes of hooks. For instance, the 1/4-ounce head is available with 3I re/0, 5/0 or 6/0 hooks. The 5/16 and 3/8 are both offered with 4/0, 5/0 or 6/0 hooks. I've had great luck using that head for hula grubs.
  6. Jerk bait can be very good in warm weather provided the wind is howling. Jerk it hard and fast. (Did I just say that?)
  7. In my experience with spinnerbaits, fishing them any faster than is required to get a bite is ill-advised --- i.e., don't burn them just for the sake of burning them. Bigger fish aren't known for chasing fast-moving baits. As for jerk baits, pauses of more than 5 seconds are rarely necessary until the water temps reach the low 40s.
  8. Fine-looking heads, Travis.
  9. That's true. There's always a very good chance of catching walleye in the winter on Beaver on a jerk bait. Never pass up that timber bluff just east of Coppermine, especially the gravel runout polnt on the downstream end.
  10. You Beaver guys can add that to your list of excuses for not catching bass ... crappie ate them all, too many shad, etc.
  11. Glad you had a couple of productive days on the water, Chris. You're figuring this lake out fast, which is something that isn't easy to do. Look forward to having you guys back down here in a couple of weeks. Should be a strong fall bite going by then.
  12. It's the Bassmaster Central Open. It's Oct. 1-3 out of State Park.
  13. Thanks for the report, Pepe. Fall fishing prospects are definitely looking up.
  14. Now that's funny I don't care who you are! Hey 5, we actually had a slam ... brown, green, spotted and a meanie. But mostly they were brown.
  15. My bad. I despise jargon as much as anyone but am still guilty of using it at times.
  16. Donna and I launched at 7 a.m. and persevered until 3:30 p.m. Ended up with 22 total, including 5 keepers for about 12 pounds. Crank bait and War Eagle blade in the wind did the damage. Water temps 78-80 degrees. All bites came in 15 feet of water or less.
  17. I never knew it went over to state control and required a different pass. Guess I got lucky using it half a dozen times this year with my COE pass hanging from my mirror. Never got ticketed.
  18. Homer Sloan derby coming up fast and worse yet, the BASS Central Open is here in a couple of weeks. Gonna be hard pressed to get much info here or elsewhere until the Open boys are gone.
  19. That's okay, Mr. Smarty Pants. I'm gonna be at the Old 86 ramp in about 7 hours and I'm heading straight for your dock, drone dogs or not. So there.
  20. Really nice report and very generous of you, Jack. Hopefully some kids will get the benefit of catching some fish because of it. Hats off.
  21. Yup, nice to hear things are cooling down and the fish are starting to show up. Gonna be interesting to see what our LM population does over the next few years. Hopefully they are just in a down cycle and will bounce back.
  22. To fish both Joe Bass and Oakley, you'd be OK on numbers since Joe Bass is a team event with a five-fish limit. You'd just have to be sure Oakley would let you have your fish back after weighing it. You would think they would but the rules do state that all fish weighed in become the property of the tournament and will be released back into the lake if possible. Hats off to Oakley for the date change. Not a lot of likelihood for fish to be pulled off spawning beds that early. Hope you guys have a good event.
  23. Is the small ramp closed too? I'd ratther use it anyway.
  24. My buddy (not Donna) cancelled on me Friday and I just wasn't up to 3 hours' driving and then fishing by myself. So yes, it was a golf weekend. Actually played as well as I have all year ... two rounds in the upper 70s, which is pretty salty for me. Donna and I are definitely going fishing this Thursday.
  25. Nice report. Gotta get lots better real soon.
