The hearing was rescheduled for this coming Thursday. So I should be around then. We will see.

Fished under blue-bird skies recently. Wasn't supposed to be too windy, but it was still tough to hold still (and my trolling motor switch broke - it only works when I flip the "continuous" switch). I fished all over the lake with the usual suspects for this time of year - shakey head, senko, fluke. Nada. Pulled up to one of my favorite spots and caught my first fish on a shakey head. I was tieing off or anchoring wherever I went just to hold still and fish slow, so I decided to give the Ned its first real chance. That's all I fished for the rest of the day. Lost count of fish, but it was somewhere around 20 or 25. Biggest ones were a couple of 3lb'ers so no giants. But the Ned really did save the trip. I don't know how you fish that thing without being able to hold the boat perfectly still, but when I did, I had success.

caught them good in the creek with a jerkbait last weekend. My house sits at the top of a very long deep hole with a cut bank on one side and a rock bluff on the other. I bet there's some spring water infiltration in there somewhere. The spots were really stacked up in it, which is funny because I caught so few spots during the summer months. My wife and I both caught spots in the 16" neighborhood with big fat bellies. Fun fish.

I caught them good in my creek on a megabass 110 on Sunday. Wife caught some nice fish on a hula grub though, but my numbers were definitely better. Didn't try the ned, but had a banner day with it on SWEPCO on Tuesday. Will post that report in the Beaver Lake section.

That being said, I can stand up in a canoe no problem. Get a cheap pelican, rip the seats out, and walk around til your heart is content.

I have a new coosa and trophyfishr ' s used cruise. Both are marketed as kayaks you can stand up in. I have zero desire to stand up in my coosa and have fallen out twice while sitting down. Get a kayak and don't bother with thinking standing and fishing in them is the way to go.

I've had Oakleys before and loved them. My current t rx ones are wiley projects or something like that. They have a foam liner on the inside that's great got running fast in cold weather, but I rarely use it. They wrap around great and we're a little cheaper than the Oakleys.

Ibuprophen needs to be taken at800mg 3x per day to be effective. It has to build up. That can hurt your stomach. I prefer daily naproxen.

I've had at least two trips I can remember where I thought "we had a good day but didn't get that big one," then had the biggest one of the trip inhale a fluke within signt of the take-out. I think one was on crooked and one was on the kings. So when folks ask me when I use a fluke for smallie streams, I always say "when I can see the truck!" No doubt flukes are awesome. A hula grub will probably always be my go-to, even over the Ned (blasphemy?). But when the big ones get after the flukes...I like that a lot.

Rush would be fine. I'm not sure what accesses have big long pools on either side of them. What's the take out if you start at Mt. Hersey? Is it Woolum? Whatever that take out is, I saw a few folks putting flatbottoms in there and idling/wading upstream to get to some long holes. That's a pretty area.

Forgot about this thread. Caught lots of fish this summer and fall. The creek is tough to navigate. I've turtled my Coosa twice and lost one of my favorite rods and reels. Dove looking for it until my lips turned blue and I couldn't handle it anymore. I'll probably find it in a log jam this spring. A few portages and a few bad log jams. Not sure how they'll look in the spring. We did as much swimming as anything. We've got a great spot to just sit in the creek and chill out. Anyway, I fished a hula grub most of the year. It's tough to beat. My wife caught the two best fish out of the creek this year, an 18" and one that was just a little smaller. You can't get the hula grub off of her rod. I had a bunch of good ones, but no 18's. Some friends use baby brush hogs with light spinning gear. I feel like they get more small fish attention than the hula grub does. I did do quite a bit of light tackle fishing. Not quite ultra-light though. One of my favorites has been a robo worm wacky-hooked on one of those high dollar flick-shake heads. I caught a lot of fish out there this year. Haven't fished the creek since October and don't plan to until March or so. I like the cold floating, but with as many times as you have to get out and as many tight turns in heavy current as there are, I'm going to wait for warmer weather. I didn't do as much floating as I'd have liked because my access wasn't that great, but I've got that worked out. Have a nice trail down now. It's a very short walk, but still kind of steep. It's tough taking out there, but completely do-able. Easier to put in at the house and float down. But I've got about a 4 mile float either way - to the house or from the house. Can't freaking wait for longer days and warmer water.

I have a pair of these and love them.

Help Asked For Ouachita Region Information
hoglaw replied to rps's topic in General Angling Discussion
You can skip Hamilton in July. Not good for much that time of year except night fishing, and that's challenging if you don't know the lake. Tremendous amount of traffic in a small area. Lots of retaining and wier walls, houses everywhere. Water quality isn't very good. I've caught some good bass out there at night, but that was with my ex-father in law who lived on the lake and fished it all the time. He'd just run from spot to spot. Ouachita will have crowds on it, but it's enormous. Absolutely beautiful lake. Pretty water, lots of islands, acres and acres of grass beds. Very cool place. Cathrine I know a lot less about, I just remember it as being smaller and very pretty. It has a dam at either end I think, and as small as it is whether they're raising it, flowing through both ends, dropping it, or holding still on both ends makes a really big difference. All of them should be fishable during the week days without too much in the way of crowds. -
My only long sleeves one is made by simms. I love it. I bought it in a fly shop in Colorado so I'm sure I paid too much for it but it was a great buy. Never got into the gloves. My hands don't bother me too much, but that doesn't mean they don't need protection. I'm sure the gloves are equally awesome.

Panama City Beach
hoglaw replied to hillbillyfisher's topic in Lodging, Camping, Kayaking and Caoneing
I've never heard of a "keeper" lady fish. Keep for what, shark bait? They're fun to catch for the first 10 seconds or so, but I've never heard of anyone actually keeping them. But I'm not really a salt expert so maybe I'm missing out. -
That pangburn to Ramsey stretch is a good one if you're expecting a rise. It's a long way down river, and it's a tame enough stretch that it's not bad to navigate out when it does come up.

Guess it's like do you choose dry flies or streamers. Maybe that's a bit extreme, but for me a square bill (which I never used before trophyfishr turned me on to them) is a shallow water and wood bait. I prefer them around trees and fishing really tight to the bank.

Brownies And Sculpins
hoglaw replied to Ferguson Bills's topic in Beaver Tailwater/Upper White River
Haven't used them in a while but used to do it a lot. Take a tiny tiny hook, but a tiny piece of a night crawler on it, put a tiny split shot an inch above the hook, wrap the line around your finger and go dangle it under over hung rocks. Have a net or cup in your other hand. Just dab it around the corners of the big over hung rocks and the sculpins wwil grab it. Raise them up a little and scoop with the net or cup. Repeat until your heart is content. -
Caught them pretty good. Not great on numbers. Maybe 25. But I had at least 4 over 18 including a 19" football of a rainbow. Watched a big gator brown suck my jig in but didn't connect with him. I'm tired. That over and back float trip is a lot harder than I remember it being.

Game time decision. Leaving in a minute. Looks like they'll shut off 2 generators between 9 and 10 and it will stay low until this evening. If anyone wants to join me for a float, call 479 957 8tree28 Kyle

And I didn't fully read your post. Yes mom's call the cops when dad's visitation takes too long. Yes dad's call the cops when mom doesn't show up to drop off the kid in time. But those don't generate amber alerts. That's a completely different scenario and has nothing to do with this, or kidnapping in general.
-
That is not what happened here. A drunk and dangerous guy snatched his roommates child and left the state. They were not in a relationship. And I don't agree with you diminishing the importance of kidnapping when it happens by a relative. The vast majority of abductions are by relatives -strangers really don't steal kids very often. The typical ex husband kidnapper went through an awful divorce and for one reason or another lost not only custody but visitation as well. That means they are bad news. So they take the kid and defy the law, or they think "if I can't have you no one will" Bad news bears. Relative kidnappings are very scary and just as news and alert worthy as one done by a stranger. Fortunately they found this one. It was scary for a while.

Never played soccer at a professional level, but I played for a 7a championship team and lots of club and rec teams. Soccer is physically taxing, but you can play a 25 game season in 12 weeks. Not sure about doing that in football. Rugby was the closest I ever got to football. Our high school coaches hated the soccer guys and you were asking for trouble even working out with them, which I did. Can't imagine playing a bunch of rugby games in a row. Did it in tournaments, but it sucks. The impacts in football are just so much harder. When you wear pads, you can tackle with reckless abandon. It's a lot harder in the human body overall in my opinion. Injuries in soccer can be common. Injuries in football can be catastrophic.

Would have loved to see Sabans season ruined and mizzou win the sec. Tough loss.

Jeez chief. No. You don't hit any defenseless player in the face with your head after the play is over. And no defender is coached to lead with their helmet at any level of football.
