  1. So True. I know a lot of the kids on the fishing team at our high school. I haven't talked to a single one that thinks they can be a pro or really would even consider fishing tournaments after they graduate. I know of one that has received a scholarship. That's pretty cool right there, get a scholarship for fishing. Hell yeah. They don't have their sights set on the Bassmaster Classic. They have them set on hanging out with their friends, being part of a team, and just having some fun. I think it would be ignorant not to encourage them to fish. If we are going to have golf teams and tennis teams and archery teams then I sure as hell think we need fishing teams. And I'm a bit confused why anyone on a fishing forum would be against it for any reason.
  2. 6X? Oh yeah I would have broken that one off. Nice Job man.
  3. I started fishing tournaments in high school in a 1977 Ranger. Then onto a 1989 Champion and then to a 1995 Champion. I don't remember winning any more than I did when I was in the Ranger. I did burn a lot more fuel though. And of course I looked cooler. I do like these High Schools that are taking this on. It's nice to see these kids have to opportunity to represent their schools while doing something they love. At my daughters high school I have seen some kids that have never been exposed to fishing become fishermen and fisherwomen. That's the real winner in my books. I wish, like in other sports, they would take the element of equipment out of the equation. Then we would know who the real champions are. But I will support it as long as they are doing it.
  4. Just like on the football field or basketball gym or volleyball court equipment does not win. Does it give you an advantage? Sometimes. But just like every other sport, raw talent wins out more times than not.
  5. 100% of the fish I catch on a crankbait take one or both of the hooks.
  6. I don't care how you hold it as long as you keep those man boobs covered up.
  7. Well now you have my curiosity going. Where is here and why isn't it possible.
  8. I am not going to disagree with this at all. Hell yeah it does. But the same could be said if I would have been using a spinning rod. It's nice to have someone controlling the boat for you. And I did my best to return the favor for Jeff when he got off the sticks and fished with me. Of course I'm not a customer so he doesn't have a problem yelling at me when I'm f'ing it up. Probably what was the most helpful on Sunday was his experience. I've been flyfishing for smallmouth for a long time and I have been successful at it. But Sunday Jeff had me fishing to water that most fisherman, both fly and conventional. would just pass on by. We hardly touched the stuff that most fisherman key in on. I also don't think you could fish those sections as effectively with conventional tackle. You sure as heck couldn't fish them as effectively floating by yourself. Just not possible. He had always told me that it wouldn't be easy to fish in a canoe and in the back of my mind I thought he was a little crazy. But after seeing how he's doing it I realize that he was right all along. The pictures above are maybe a 1/4 of what was caught. And if I would have landed every fish that almost yanked the rod out of my hand or broke me off it would have been an unimaginable day. I tried to keep count but lost track somewhere. I tried to take more pictures but that's hard to do when someone is yelling at you to get that one off the hook and fire back in there. It was an eye opening experience. I was just looking forward to hanging out with Jeff, what we caught was beyond my expectations. A bigger fish would have been a bonus but I missed and lost so many that I have no way of knowing if one of those wasn't that fish. I know that paying for a guide is beyond what a lot want to do. I don't really want to be a commercial for my buddy, but I'm telling you that it is worth every penny you would spend. And you aren't going to find a better guy to do it with.
  9. Holy crap dude! There goes your modeling career. Glad you are okay.
  10. Today I had the great opportunity to fish with my good friend Jeff Trigg. Jeff is the owner and head guide of Ozark Sweetwater. If you want a chance at a big smallmouth on a flyrod then Jeff is your guy. You aren't going to find a better guy to show you how it's done. We didn't catch any monsters today but we caught more fish than I could keep track of and had an awesome time. My arm feels like it's going to fall off. http://ozarksweetwater.com/
  11. Looking at the generation schedule they are scheduled to generate for a few hours this afternoon and then nothing through Sunday. Don't know if that will hold true or not but that is what is scheduled.
  12. The pipeline goes right into Fellows.
  13. There's plenty of poop in Table Rock too.
  14. No. They will pump water into Fellows when needed but Fellows is plenty full right now.
  15. I agree wrench. From the distance it was heard there is no way it was a sonic boom.
  16. The best thing to do is do what you want. You can catch fish on that little creek with or without indicators. Try it without and if you get frustrated and feel the need then try it with.
  17. A couple of years ago a bunch of rented a place from Sunburst to hang at the NFOW for 3 days. The first four of us that got there geared up and headed for the river. I hit one of the first steps of the stairs that led down to the water and bit the dust. Feet straight out from under me and my back landed right on one of those steps. My first thought was I wonder how long it will take the ambulance to get here. It wasn't that bad after all but the pain was incredible. After they finally got me inside and I went through the enormous pain of getting my waders and boots off, I took some advil, fixed me a drink, and found a spot on the couch for the weekend. About that time Wrench shows up with his pup Orion and that dog thought the best place to be was on my lap. So there I sat with a jack and coke spilled all over myself and no desire to move or change or anything. Worse fishing trip I have ever been on. Plus the river rose like 12 feet overnight and it pretty much sucked for everyone. We still had a good time as always though.
  18. Or you have to remove one's foot from a long spring trap. He was not happy.
  19. Anyone know if the big rock island at Cedar Ridge campground is accessible by foot at this water level? I'm almost sure it is but I want to make sure before I drag my kid up there to take some pictures.
  20. How long you think that section takes you? Just wondering if an after work trip on that would be possible while still being able to do a bit of fishing.
  21. Thanks. Everybody ragged on the Ascend pretty good and my dumb butt still bought one. There are better kayaks out there that are lighter, faster, track better, etc... But I knew I needed to just grab something and get after it. It might not have been the best decision but it wasn't a bad decision either. Whatever it takes to put you on the water. And yes that seat is pretty sweet. I'm more comfortable in it than any canoe seat I have ever tried. I've made 7 short trips in the kayak since the 10th of July for a total of 23 hours of seat time. They are all short quick trips but it's just good to be out there.
  22. I like to paddle up from Crighton. It's a bit of a chore to get up there, but there are some wing dikes a ways up that are fun to fish around. That water you went through seems to be full of those 12 to 15 inch green fish. I have a lot of fun with them.
  23. That's the most hilarious thing I have seen all year. Asking Wrench if he knows LOZ at all? LOL.
  24. Lightroom, Photoshop and NIK Mostly just Lightroom though. I take them into Photoshop if they need a lot of corrections or cloning something out like the water spot in the second picture. NIK is neat but I only use it to give it a drastic over processed look.
