  1. It couldn't cut it? Sure it wasn't just you?? I've been using a 3wt for gills the last 3 or 4 years. Great little rod and I have tangled with fish that are beyond it's limits. But that's part of the fun. A gill on a 5wt doesn't do much for me. But I would still do it!!! Can't beat some small foam poppers and a case of beer.
  2. You mean you can trout fish with a fly rod? I'll keep that in mind. Until then I will continue to bass fish with a fly rod. And don't even get me started on bluegill. It doesn't get any easier or fun than that.
  3. I heard that. You are on the list.
  4. I have been using this vise for several years. It's a great vise for $75.00. Griffin Odyssey Spider
  5. Gonna need to beef up those toons if I'm riding that.
  6. Hey I didn't say I was smart!! I did put this on the wrong post. I'm sorry fishinSWMO, didn't mean to hijack your thread. I was looking for the one that Wheatenhiemer posted.
  7. Man I was wanting to go fishing with you but now that I know you fish with a girl I'm not so sure. Who is that little cutie with the pony tail??? She might be able to get a job at the fair. "Come see the bearded lady"!!! And is that a cowboy hat or a headdress?
  8. We floated above Boiling Springs last weekend. Tie that boy on a white roostertail or teeny craw and he will have a blast. Had a buddy try a beetle spin and he didn't do very good on it. The smaller plastics picked up some fish as well. Can't go wrong with a bobber and a tub of worms. Either way he is going to have a blast.
  9. Amen to that!! Welcome to the forum.
  10. Poppers are my favorite for obvious reasons. Detailed crawfish patterns are very elegant in the vise, but all you need is a crawfish colored wooly weighted to bounce along the bottom. Pine squirrel streamers are hard to beat. They can be fished right under the surface, in the middle, or on the bottom. It seems like the standard answers you will find to this question on the internet is clousers and sneaky pete's. And I'm not knocking their ability to catch fish, but I have never done that well on them, probably because I hardly ever fish them. I have 3 or 4 clousers total and no pete's. The good thing about bass is that they are not real particular when they are hungry. As long as it looks alive they will want to kill it.
  11. I don't think that there is any noticeable difference in casting. It's more about the mass of the fly. You should give a few a try and see which one you like better. I love foam, it's easy. Others like Fishinwrench like cork. I have started going back to deer hair after I wrote it off do to difficulty. I think they all have a place. Some will ride lower in the water giving you a different presentation. There are tons of little tricks you can try to make each one behave differently in the water. I tend to agree with the reel. But if you haven't had a smallmouth make a big run on you, you are missing out.
  12. OTF, again you come on here and make an butt out of yourself. If you can't respect the landowners wishes then you have no business being on their property. It doesn't matter what law you are quoting when you are out in the middle of no where confronted by a landowner. Whether you are correct or not does not matter at that point. It's that stupid "It's owed to me mentality" that is ruining this country. A little respect goes a long ways. And I think that "navigable" refers to being able to transport commerce. That doesn't mean that just because you can fit your yak down the stream, it's open for business.
  13. Holy cow, where have you been? Thought we were going to tie some flies and empty some bottles.
  14. I think it's funny that a lot of guys think you need to downsize your baits to catch river smallies. And then they complain that they never catch any larger fish. You might lose some numbers but you will really increase the size by using standard bass lures. I use them on the lakes and don't have a problem catching small fish. You at least have to let Dano know where you got that hat. He would look sweet in that!!!
  15. Molly Hatchet is going to be at the fair in Springfield. But since I'm scared of carneys, I'm not going.
  16. Don't you ever have any positive input??
  17. What? He has followers? I have no idea. It's not my thing and I don't listen to that crap. I was just saying that something different needs to happen without blaming it on Bush, Obama, Clinton or any of the other liars in charge. I've seen Skynard in the area many years ago. And I think that would be great to bring in some acts like that. Or really anything for the 35 to 45 crowd, but also something you wouldn't be afraid to take your kids to. That's where the money is at, family vacations. Nelly is not the answer, but they will figure that out soon enough. It would be funny to see a bunch of old Caprice Classics with 24" spinners sitting in the lot at Moon River though!!!
  18. I think so. The old has beens are just getting older and their audience is getting older as well. I have never been to a Branson music show. There is nothing there that interests me as far as music shows. They need something to bring in a younger crowd with more disposable income. Is Nelly the answer, uh...no. But they shoud try to do something to bring in some different crowds.
  19. Not picking on you flytyer, but this is something that really irks me. People will listen to a "star" for political advice, but just because they are famous doesn't mean they are intelligent. Some probably are, but most are not. anyone want to ask Lindsay Lohan how she feels you should vote in the next election? How about Lady Gaga, Nelly, OJ or any of the other "stars".
  20. Well I thought old paranoid fishinwrench said there were security cameras everywhere up there. Surely they have this on video?
  21. Gasconade Hills has always been good to me.
  22. You can't go wrong with an Iwata brush. They make some very fine airbrushes. As far as getting the fine detail it's all about the tip and needle in the brush. You can buy different sizes to suit your needs and they are very easy to change them out in the brush as you need them. As far as stencils I have not seen a lot that cover baitfish patterns. Some of the best I have see are just homemade. I have used a lot of different materials to create pattern and the most useful is a pair of fishnet stockings. These are a really quick way to create the scales on a bait. I have never removed the old finish from a bait. The most problem you will have is the products that remove paint also do a pretty good job of softening the plastic that crank baits are made of. I use a fine grit sandpaper to remove and nicks or seams and then a fine scotchbrite scuff pad to prep the bait for painting. A quick coat of primer from a spray can will give you a uniform color to work with. I have always used automotive paint because that's the business that I'm in, but I hear a lot of good things about Createx paints. These are available at most art and hobby stores and is probably safer to use than auto paint. On clears I have used auto clear and epoxy. The auto clear and other sprayed clears give you a very nice look but they are not very thick and don't give the durability of an epoxy. Darren I think you called and spoke to my wife the other day. Sorry that was my old cell phone number. I'm no pro at this by any means and don't do it much any more, but if you want to discuss any of this shoot me a PM and I'll get you my correct number. It's all about just getting started and being very patient in the process. It will take some time to get used to the air brush but if you stick with it you will be able to create some very nice baits. Good luck.
  23. That's where you just don't respond.
  24. Carp? Nope. Kentucky Tuna??? Now that just sounds like you are getting some slop. Silverfin? Well it least it has a name that sounds good.
