  1. Well I've been married for 16 years so I will be there bright and early.
  2. Uh, you sure have a weird looking weenie dog. Mine has a little different tail and four little stubby legs that don't do a very good job of holding her belly off the floor. But yeah, she's as fat as that fish.
  3. He makes a good point. i still like my Sharkskin, just saying
  4. You know I always hear the thing about Sharkskin being a gimmick. I don't know maybe it is. But I had a SA GPX line before it and it's better than that. The guys that have it seem to love it, the guys that don't seem to call it a gimmick. But I have heard of guys that have used it and didn't like it. And it does take some getting used to. The noise is the biggest thing. But I can cast it a lot better that I have anything else. Maybe that's why I can get by using a 5wt on smallmouth.
  5. The Launch is a good rod. It was what I was going to buy when I found the Scott A2 that I have. I'm not going to try to talk you into a 4 piece over a 2, but you will find that it doesn't really matter like you think it would. Lamson Konic, great reel from what I hear. I don't own one but it will be the next reel that I purchase. Can't go wrong with a Rio line, but I really like the Sharkskin that I have. I know a lot of guys don't like it, but just like everything else in the world, some like it and some don't. Some people like pigs feet and I do not.
  6. You don't need more signs, you need more tickets. Word will get out fast enough. I was at Roaring River on Friday fishing up by the hatchery. There was a large rainbow, probably 9 or ten pounds, that kept cruising around. Everyone was casting at it. Just as I started to walk off and find a less populated area a guy walks up and his buddy who had been standing close to me points it out to him. I walked on. Before I could get to the other side of the pool this guy has the fished hooked and is fighting him. I thought that it was odd but just went on my way. Later at lunch one of the guys told me that the guy that landed the fish dropped a jar of Salmon eggs when trying to get a picture with the big fish. Point is most of these people don't care about the rules. They only care if they get caught. So lets spend less time "educating" and more time funding our schools.
  7. And I'm pretty sure that a few of our schools could use some extra money. They either need to step up the efforts or explain where they spend all of their time.
  8. Dano, that's what makes this event so special.
  9. I had a great time. It was really good to meet everyone and see those that I had already met. Couldn't ask for a better group of guys to fish and hang out with. Thanks to everyone. The highlight of the day was seeing our new buddy Chris, CS Huntley, catch his biggest trout ever. Great Job Chris.
  10. Hmmmmmm............Just one? I do things a little bit differently I guess. For the past couple of years I've only used a 5wt and a 3wt. I did have a TFO 7wt but the Eleven Point river ate it. Long story. But I never really liked it. It wasn't the rod, but it didn't match my casting style. Is a heavier weight rod better for casting larger flies for bass? Maybe. Oh ok it probably is. But I have a really nice 5wt with a really good line and I seldom feel the need for anything more. However I will probably add a heavier weight rod in the spring....maybe. Truth is, I like my 3wt so much that I spend a lot of time smallmouth fishing with it. Have I lost some nice fish because of that, oh yeah, but it was probably more of a result of the specific moment than that rod not being able to handle the fish. Starting out fly fishing I would go with a 5wt. It will give you more options in the fish you catch. You can have a lot of fun getting started just dinking with bluegill. It's a lot of fun. Now if you try that with a 7wt it's going to be laike dragging them in on a broom stick. I have a buddy that started fly fishing for smallmouth about the same time I did. I bought a nice 5wt, he bought a 7wt. Now several years later I still enjoy my 5wt and he doesn't fly fish anymore. From the conversations that we've had, if he had a different rod he would probably still be doing it. You don't have to throw a big heavy wind resistant fly to catch smallmouth.
  11. Nicely done Phil. That would be a good one for Missouri Conservationist magazine.
  12. I think that's what he was using for bait.
  13. Denjac is right on. Both good spots this time of year. I've always caught fish in that cove in the fall. You can also go left out of that cove and fish down that bank. Hard to remember exactly where but there are some nice rock ledges down there not to far from the ramp. Another good place to throw a spinnerbait in the fall.
  14. I don't know that I want to commit everyone to 18 flies. If we can get enough I would do a second one.
  15. Well that's where I'm tying mine. You ARE supplying all the materials aren't you?
  16. I thought the TB might have something to do with him.
  17. I don't even know what you are talking about. I have updated the list. We are all set with 12. Now go tie me some flies!!!
  18. Thanks Terry. Just need one more. Who wants it. I'm sure you are gonna receive a bunch of nice flies.
  19. But I'm just a little bitty guy. I'm not bringing much anyway. 2 rods, a camera, very small fly box, spool of tippet and a case of tequila.
  20. You never thanked Duane? What a loser.
  21. Thanks Duane. I added her to the list.
  22. Oh I know Thom. But I also know that I was one of the ones that drug my feet getting them done last time too.
  23. Thanks Zach.
  24. Well that we will have to figure out. I'm going to be very busy the next couple of weeks at work. I'll try to figure out what would work and maybe track you down on Friday to discuss.
  25. And why did everybody else tie small flies? What are you guys fishing for, my fly?
