  1. Welcome to the forum.
  2. Nice job, he was very lucky you were there and had the heads up to call the generation to stop the water.
  3. The way I read the law is the limit is 4 fish per DAY with a possession of 8. The days end at 11:59:59, so after midnight that would be the next day... I certainly would have them cleaned as you mentioned and not have 8 on a stringer!
  4. Welcome to the forum!
  5. The water will probably be lower than in the spring, so that means very clear water. The trout will be picky. I would use 7x or 8x tippet in flurocarbon. The fall is great for a lot of the patterns listed above, don't forget about egg patterns. They will work year round, but best when they are trying to spawn. July/August they can get picky and want tiny stuff. They will still pick small flies in October, but you can also get away with larger ones and dries. Tight lines.
  6. Welcome!
  7. Looks like they were having a great time.
  8. Do you have a pic of the ball jigs?
  9. After the rains, it spiked up. Could be muddy. http://waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis/uv?06923250

Went down the river from BSSP to NRO. Action in the mouth of the spring was slow but got a few on dries. Some holes that looked good were dead, no hits. A few trout were lingering around here and there but the action was pretty slow. Lots of suckers in the river. I lost count but probably hooked up about 20+ fish for the entire trip. Some of the holes seemed like they were going to be hot - fish every cast for 2 or 3 cast then dead. The trout had great healthy colors along with all the other fish in the river. Dry flies didn't do much and didn't hook any massive brown trout, I'm not sure where they are staying. I should have looked at radar with the clouds started to grow, then the anvil to the north was expanding. Out of the water just in time at NRO although a little wet. White caps on the river and some solid rain coming down.
  12. The fishing was pretty slow, but enough action to keep it interesting. The water is low and clear and the fish were feeding on TINY nymphs and dries (the real bugs). What I got them to bite on was totally different. I threw #26 dries trying to get their attention but I was ignored. The traditional black and yellow marabou early in the morning always hooks up some fish. As the crowds broke off after the morning rush I started throwing some dries and other nymphs in Zones 1 and 2. Flies that seemed to get some hits were Tim's Fly Shop famous burlap fly, Micro Mayfly Nymph #16, Tan Caddis Poophah #18, March Brown Foam Emerger #14, Latex Caddis #16, Green PM Caddis #16, Rust PM Caddis # 14, Olive Beadhead LeBug #16, Orange Beadhead LeBug #14 Beadhead Norfolk Special #16, Midge #18 (copper tungsten bead, copper wire, rusty dun body), Midge #16 (black / silver), stoneflies, scuds and sowbugs also. I tried a Zug Bug and no luck those days. Surprisingly the Griffiths Gnat didn't produce anthing either with fish sipping the surface. The dries that I had luck on were big even though they were feeding on tiny flies. No luck with all colors and styles of Comparduns, Spinners or other flies with the exception of the #14 Marrch Brown Foam Emerger. I had a decent trout rise and hammer the March Brown. The first cast it rose to take a look. The 2nd drift it hammered it and dove and made a run - a FAST run and never stopped. I should have chased it as it took me into the backing and almost to the end, I was tinkering with the drag and too much line out with an 8x and that was the end of it. I tried quite a few different styles of caddis dries...got some lookers but no takers. On dry that worked really good and a trout literally swallowed it, so it must have thought is was good was a Foam Cricket #12. I thought they certainly would like some ant patterns...no takers this time??? I threw all styles and colors with no luck. I threw a moth pattern and hoppers with no luck either. Lots of lookers, but this trip the Cricket was the ticket. Image below: I got the Foam Crickets from THE FLY STOP: http://www.theflystop.com/store-cid-7-dry-...rrestrials.html Latex Caddis: http://www.theflystop.com/store-page-produ...phs-caddis.html Green PM Caddis: http://www.theflystop.com/store-page-produ...phs-caddis.html Olive Beadhead LeBug: http://www.theflystop.com/store-page-produ...ead-nymphs.html Orange Beadhead LeBug: http://www.theflystop.com/store-page-produ...ead-nymphs.html Rust PM Caddis: http://www.theflystop.com/store-page-produ...ead-nymphs.html Green PM Caddis: http://www.theflystop.com/store-page-produ...ead-nymphs.html Beadhead Norfolk Special: http://www.theflystop.com/store-page-produ...ead-nymphs.html The flies and service from the Fly Shop are great...at least the fish like them. Looks like the "summer" crowds are fading away and not too many soft plastics in Zone 2 or other things. Someone did have an egg pattern on the handicap ramp in Zone 1 that when it rained, the "yarn" melted!!! Hmmm? Tight lines!
  13. Nice report, sounds like you were hooking up some great fish.
  14. Program the numbers in your cell phone and call in violations. For the agents to have some extra eyes out there is the only way to help them.
  15. Maybe a beer can with a big hook would match the hatch?
  16. Here's a link to a neat video on the wester trout streams. About 12:34 into the video is talks and shows the contents of a brown trout that has eaten 5 other trout. Proportions are not that far off on how big of a fish the brown can eat in the video.. http://www.idahoafs.org/video.php I'm sure they eat some, but how many browns are in the water and how many rainbows do they eat? The big browns can lay low during the day and hunt at night.
  17. I thought the day was going to start out with hot action. First cast and fish on! It was big - or I thought. A fin hooked 12" brown. Now wonder it fought so much. All down hill in action from there. Brought very few to the net if they even made it to the net. Light bites and very little action. Some were doing okay with a stringer, most looked little action. The entire range of flies were thrown in all sizes and colors. The big dries were taking some hits, but no hook ups. I changed colors, sizes and styles with no luck. The water is low and clear. The human hatch wasn't too bad, at least some room to cast. But it was Friday so the weekend may be more packed. The total fish count did look down from previous. Still fish in the water, but lower numbers. Two guys did really good in Zone 2 using a red SOFT PLASTIC bait. They both had a stringer of 4.
  18. For me, I'm seeing it as a food substance even though it isn't listed specifically. I can find some foam to look like it and I won't have to worry about explaining it to a judge.
  19. Nice looking bass, congrats. Cool pics.
  20. Welcome to the forum. Post some pics of some fish when you get a chance.
  21. It seems the first cast will produce or like AZ mentioned, the 1st three usually produce or you have the wrong fly. If you have want they want, it's hard to keep them off the hook. If you don't, they will refuse it. Having a good drift is also important. Many say it's better to have a perfect drift on an average fly than a bad drift with a good one - they may reject it at the last second.
  22. That's terrible with the violations...Game Wardens should be notified.
  23. Nice report. Hope all is well with your family.
  24. Nice looking fish. Sounds like a great time even though it seems they rarely generate what they post.
