  1. The wind got to blowin pretty hard and blew most of the birds down wind. We got to round robin through all the stations, so we got our chances at the good ones.
  2. Marty, You have been tearing it up! Wish I could have spent a little more time with you on the phone today but we were right in the middle of the hunt at Flying Feathers south of Lockwood. We had 20 hunters and ended up bagging 71 birds. I found out my mossberg 935 does not like to shoot 2 3/4 shells. I was single shotting it the whole hunt. I still managed to drop 5 birds. It was a cool hunt (or more of a shoot fest). I have a plan for the pheasant breasts in the near future. Cant wait to share this one with you guys.
  3. Thanks for sharing that great hunt with us Marty. Looks like it was worth it to me…..but I was not the packing all the gear. I can definitely relate trying to pack too much gear in to a spot by Miller last year. I know a few grunts….
  4. Sounds like a good hunt. The numbers posted on the board for opening day were impressive. An average of 3.5 birds per hunter.
  5. Hunted Schell Osage till about noon today and got one green head and one green wing. Had quite a few groups of birds work us but no commitment. Had a fun day with two youngsters among us.
  6. Found a pretty cool free phone ap on the MDC website today. Its called Find MO Fish. Great map with all MDC brush piles and GPS showing your location. Tried it out today on the James River arm of Table Rock. Was pretty impressed.
  7. Looking good Scott. Hope they stick around
  8. Had a little time to try the crappie yesterday afternoon. My wife and I fished from 2 till 5 and concentrated on pole timber and brush piles in 28 to 18 feet of water. We managed to catch 22 crappie on blue grass colored Bobby Garlands with 16th oz jig heads. Most were just an 1/8th inch short but we did manage to land 8 keepers. Ended up releasing them all. Fun way to spent the afternoon.
  9. It rates right up there with fly fishing. I always tell people that ask about duck hunting, "Dont even start. You will save a lot of money."
  10. Yes. 18-25 feet of water right on top of the conservation brush piles. Bobby Garland jigs in blue grass with 1/16 oz heads. Let em sink and get down in the brush.
  11. Nothing sucks the wind out of your chest more than chasing a crippled duck a few hundred yards through the mud and muck. I like the clean kills for sure.
  12. Thanks for sharing your hunts Marty. Truly enjoy reading them. Can't wait for duck season to start so I can make my contributions too
  13. Marty, that is awesome! Can't wait to try it. I'm thinking about trying to poor line it on the middle zone opener. Maybe we can get together. I got something you might be interested in....maybe a swap for some BBQ sauce or some goose pastrami....Scott knows what I'm talking about
  14. Another nice haul Marty. That's a shame on the blue wings. You have any idea who else hunts there?

  16. Love me some chicken fried goose. Nice job guys. Good to be back in the lower 48!
  17. Nice fish!
  18. I'm in Denver right now. Head to Branson for just one day tomorrow, then off to Kentucky for a week. Should be settled back in around the middle of Oct. Fish, ducks, deer and geese should all be afraid!!!!
  19. Way to go Mr. and Mrs. Billet head! Looking forward to getting some hunts in with you guys this season!
  20. Today is the first day in 11 days I'm not taking guests duck hunting. Been breaking ice every morning for 4 days now. Today, I have to go chase giant rainbows on the Naknek. One more week in Alaska and then we get to head back south to America
  21. We are still celebrating up here in Bristol Bay. Dynasty's stock dropped 45% today! Huge win for the fishing community.
  22. Been duck hunting on the Naknek River and flying out to coastal ponds the last seven days in a row with 2 to 4 hunters each day. I think we've killed 107 in the last seven days most being pintails, wigeons, mallards and blue bills with a few green wings, shovelers, gadwall, golden eye, buffle heads and one cackler. Could have cracked two tundra swans the other day. Got swan decoys for confidence out and two swans flew in and destroyed them right in front of me. It was awesome. Sending as many birds as possible your way and trying to educate them as much as possible. On standby for an afternoon hunt with new arriving guests today. She y'all in a couple weeks

  24. Took 4 guys out today in 45 mph winds. We managed to get 13 wigeons and one green wing. Could not get them to hold their fire till the birds got close enough to do real damage. Think I'm flying out to a coastal pond to hunt in the morning. It's raining birds up here in Alaska.
  25. My MonaChari and I got to go out and do a little duck hunting together on opening day for ducks today. We were not able to get out until 12:30 p.m. due to change over duties and could only hunt till 3 p.m. The limit is 8 ducks each up here and we managed to drop 16 ducks in the 2 1/2 hours we got to hunt. 3 cripples got away from us so we brought back 13 ducks. 4 were pintails, 3 mallards, and the rest were wigeons. Great start to the 2013 duck season. First duck I saw, I dropped on the 1st shot. That was really cool. See y'all in Oct.
