  1. Another good morning of duck hunting on the Lower End this morning. Got on the water about 5 a.m. and was set up by 5:45. Had an hour to kill in the dark. Two other boats came by but not much shooting going on around me this morning. I ended up with a limit of gadwalls by 10:30 a.m.
  2. Riding this wave till the end. Heading back out right now.
  3. Rick.....That was funny!
  4. Welcome! Sharing info and stories is great. Can't wait to see what you have to share.
  5. If it is the pond in St. Peters that I'm thinking of, all you will need is a club
  6. The geese are my favorite when prepared properly. I use a special marinade that is 2 parts mountain dew, 1 part soy sauce, 1 part worstchesire (sp?) and some sirachi hot sauce. Slice the breast thinly. I normally get 18 slices out of each breast. Marinate over night. Wrap the slices of breast around slivers of fresh jalepeno peppers and string cheese. Wrap all of this with 1/2 of a slice of Bacon and secure with a tooth pick. Cook on a very hot grill till the cheese starts to melt out the ends. Do not over cook. The legs and thighs are ground up and turned into breakfast sausage.
  7. Welcome to the forum. Looking forward to reading your fishing reports.
  8. Not a fishing report, because I have not done much fishing since duck season started. But, I have been out on the lake. The Lower End, a place you would not normally find me....unless it's duck season, is where I have been. The duck hunting has been phenominal on the Lower end this year. I have been hunting out of a canoe and putting in at Rockaway Beach. The best locations that I have found are about two miles down (East) from Rockaway. Yes, I've been paddling down there in the dark 3 days a week for over a month now. Getting to know that stretch very well. On two different occasions I have seen Trumpeter Swans land down there almost in front of Rockaway Beach. I have not seen them in a couple of weeks though, so they may have moved on. Last week was great because all the surrounding ponds and lakes had frozen over along with all the smaller coves on Lake Taneycomo forcing all the ducks and geese to stay on the main lake. Picked up two banded geese that were banded in Iowa this season. Hopefully we are getting some migrating geese instead of the Branson Landing Residents only. Those geese taste like cheetos???? The gadwall population is very good on the lower end right now. One flock that hangs out down there numbers close to 500. Mallards are a little tougher to come by. Although I did get 3 green heads today. A few mergansers are haning out and some shovelers. Only one week left in the season. If you get a chance get out and give it a try. I have also been getting some good reports from Bull Shoals on the duck hunting. Beaver Creek area has been producing pretty good. The South Side of the Lake right across from Beaver has been holding some good ducks. Last year I mostly hunted Table Rock, but with the water so low I have not had much luck. Only got a limit one day. I still hunt Table Rock one day a week, more so, just to be outside than to be getting ducks. Sorry I have not been very active on here lately.....as you can see...I've been real busy duck hunting!!!! This one is this morning another shot of this mornings limit last week just before my limit and then the limit My Brother and Nephew came down for some action The canoe trip down the lake in the dark More Taney pictures from this season And some Table Rock pictures from this season I'm in heaven....been eating duck poppers and duck stir fry just about everyday for 6 weeks now!!!! MMMMM!!!!!GOOD!!!!!!
  9. I use the extra spools to have a sinking line but that is more for my 5 wts and larger. I also have a few spools with a shooting line on them.
  10. I have found that the Orvis lines are a little lighter in my opinion than they are rated. For example on a 5 wt clearwater rod, the 5wt wf orvis line does not seem to load the rod as well as it should, so I have over lined all my Orvis rods with one line class rating higher than the rod weight. The rods load much better and I can easily cast 25 to 30 ft further. If you do change lines, I would never go lower in line weight because the rod will not load
  11. I put in at Rockaway Beach about 4 in the morning on Tuesday(the last day of active snow) and the roads were in pretty good shape that morning. By afternoon when we took out, the roads were in great shape.
  12. I grew up in Foristell, and graduated from Wright City. Welcome to the forum. You sure you want to start that fly fishing thing????? You'll get a really bad fever!
  13. It's not a short drive for you, but I've caught several this time of year below Alton Lock and Dam just north of St. Louis on the Mississippi river.
  14. Mtn Dew is a good choice.......
  15. DD'sMC and I will be there
  16. My wife (MonaChari) and I will be getting up in the wee hours of the morning, putting on all of our cold weather gear and heading out on Table Rock Lake in a canoe with all duck hunting gear in tow. While I will be setting out the decoys, she will be putting up the cammo and grassed tarps for a make shift duck blind. We will spend our Christmas morning together calling in ducks. The morning hunt will be followed by some hot off the griddle French toast and Bacon then off to the woods to spend the afternoon together in the tree stand for some muzzle loader action. Can't think of a better way to spend a Christmas together.
  17. Did you see any ducks down in that area????
  18. I have tied on both and prefer the peak because of the cam lock system. It seems to hold the hook more secure for me. The Renzetti, I never could seem to get it tight enough to keep the hook from slipping at the most important times when tying a fly. Just my preference though and I'm sure others have different opinions.
  19. Niced report and great job guys! Them's some nice fish!
  20. Yea, its 1/4 ounce test. Your lucky to just get your fly back after casting it into the water.
  21. I use my 13 ft spey rod for polish nymphing. 17' would really do the job!
  22. I had to work so no fish pic for me
  23. US Army 82nd Airborne Gulf War I Tactical Satellite Radio Operator 89-93
  24. I would suggest heavy weighted light grey mini balls in the 50 cal. size.
