  1. A few areas have been wadeable with the current generation. The south side behind the island and some stuff down below outlet 3. Mostly restricted to the bank these last couple of days though. If I understand it correctly, they will have to shut the water all the way off starting tomorrow inorder to place the rocks. I will be down there tomorrow a couple of different times and then all day Saturday.
  2. I fished from about 9 a.m. till noon thirty, and there was alot of boat traffic. The fellas in the boats were doing pretty good. I did not hear them banging off any submerged hazards though.
  3. I saw they have the sign up below the boat ramp at the upper end warning of the boating hazards (Rocks). Are all the rocks in place already? If so, did you see any of them or feel like you were in danger of hitting any?
  4. I can see throwing that with a 10 ft. 12 wt. fly rod on the upper Naknek River for 30+ inch smolting monster rainbows!......Well, maybe not.
  5. Barring any kids getting sick like last year,DD'sMC and I will be there. I'm thinking duck or goose poppers.
  6. That is sure a pretty colored fish. What was the girth?
  7. You should have a good time on Taney this week. 5 and 6x tippet in flouro carbin is what I would suggest during the day. The upper section has many spots that are wadeable even with one unit running like they are predicting for all week with the draw down. Fishing scuds, sow bugs, and midges under and indicator will be your best bet for catching lots of fish. All of these flies should be in the 12 to 20 size range. Sow bugs and scuds in tans and grays, midges in zebra, black, and rusty colors. Fly rod choice during the day should be anywhere from 3 wt to 5 wt. Fish both midges and sow bugs, or scuds under an indicator. Midges only about 8 to 12 inches under the smallest indicator you can get away with and no lead or weight added. Anywhere you see rising fish, cast as softly as possible in that area and let the midge drift under the indicator. Sow bugs and scuds can be fished with or with out the indicator. In the shallow water where you can see fish tailing, cast the sow bug without an indicator and use very small stripps to strip it back in. 1/2 to 1 inch strips with some pausing between sets of 3 or more strips. This should catch some fish for you. Anywhere there is current, fish the sow bug under an indicator at a depth of 1 1/2 times the water depth. You might need to use some split shot to get the fly down. Make sure you cast up stream and mend when needed. You want the fly to catch on the bottom every now and then, but not all the time. Adjust depth of indicator as necessary. Good luck to you and hope this helped some.
  8. Sounds like your gonna have some fun. I might see ya on the water. I should be over that way 5 or 6 times this week.
  9. I dont usually fish the lower end, but I do spend alot of time on the water down there from Thanksgiving till the end of January!
  10. That's awesome Rick. When you coming down again. I would make an exception to the weekend rule to sit on the bank and watch you work your magic!
  11. How about a report on the duck populations below Rockaway Beach. Ah, never mind, I'll be heading over there tomorrow to check it out for myself
  12. That is exactly why I have been staying away from that place on the weekends. Soooo.....how many lunkers did you catch this weekend?
  13. Project healing waters has a few local chapters that do just what you are wanting to participate in. I think there are a few members on this forum that help this organization out. You might want to check into them. Good luck!
  14. Great photo Chief! I'm gonna do just that!
  15. Is that close to Indian Point?
  16. LOL! The name of the dog that I got to work with was Earl. We called him Earl the fetching Squirrel until we got him out in the feild. He definately won me over!
  17. Ha! That is a Boykin. He is an awesome dog and if I could own a dog, I do believe it would be a Boykin.
  18. That is the elusive silver salmon my friend. Cast and blast is the way to go!
  19. There are a few of us on here. I've been fortunate enough to get some duck hunting in already this year. The season opened Sept. 1st in Alaska so I've already educated a few. Just waiting for the Missouri seasons to open now.
  20. Welcome to the forum Scott. Looking forward to hearing about your adventures and following your up coming waterfowl season. My step-son and his buddies are from Fayettville and with a little prodding, they took to duck hunting real good. They frequent the Beaver waters in pursuit of the ducks quite often, that is when they are not coming up to hunt with me in the Branson area. Again, welcome to the forum!
  21. I've got a sled coming tomorrow. I like the pvc idea. Does he tow it with a rope or directly attached to the back of the rig?
  22. I've been thinking about something like that. I'm only gonna carry a dozen though. That would leave some room for extras like a folding hunting chair and another ghillie tarp for a portable blind.
  23. Since getting back from Alaska, I have been doing a little fishing on Lake Taneycomo. Mostly at night on the week days. The fishing for rainbows has been pretty good. I did catch a 4 or 5 pounder this morning before it got light out on a weighted size 8 grey scud. There seems to be good concentrations of rainbows below outlet 2 on the north bank just before the second set of steps. Wow, did the rebar hole ever change. Thought I was gonna get wet a few times down there with one more step into the abyss. Lots of rainbow activity below the tree in the shallows. Grey and tan scuds worked very well down there also before the sun came up this morning. Had a lot of fun stripping a white mink conehead picking up quite a few fish the last few times I have been down. There are some browns in the area. A few of them are big, but I have not personally seen any real monsters. The numbers dont quite seem as high as I've seen at this time in the past. Hopefully more will move up soon. Well that was the fishing report, now time for the "And".... When I haven't been fishing, I've been keeping myself busy with a little project getting ready for the up coming duck season and I thought I would share it with you guys. You see last year I duck hunted out of a canoe, alot of times by myself. When hunting on these lakes, that would make for a lot of paddling and a long time getting from the truck to the hunting spot. Working on an upgrade this year. I call it the "Duck Duster" and it is for covert duck hunting operations on Lake Taneycomo, Bull Shoals, and Table Rock Lake. It is designed for quick scouting of duck infested waters and rapid deployment to blind locations along with speedy retreival of downed waterfowl. This should reduce my paddling time just a little bit. Water legal for operation in the wee hours of the morning just before daylight. comes with it's own built in cammo system and waterfowl retrieval net The ducks will never see it and no more wrestling with large tarps to cover the canoe this thing is one toothy critter I got the gun sleeves attached today, but no picture yet. Working on ideas for towing or dragging a gear sled and possible outrigger pontoons to make it stable enough for 2 people. So far everything rides fine and feels stable for one person, but I would really like to be able to take DD'sMC along.
