Great Comedy On The News This Afternoon
Wheatenheimer replied to Terry Beeson's topic in General Chat
Hey Terry, Just caught you on the news! That is pretty cool! Looked like Joe Daues knows what to do with a fly rod. Right on Brother! Kevin -
Hey to all of you out there lookin'.......I just checked out the Brothers website and they have put a link to plenty more pictures of their boats on the streams as well as some photo's of the building of the boats. Click on http://www.twobrotherscanoe.com/ and look in the bottom left corner for the picassa link to more photo's. check it out! It's been over a month since my boat has seen water. I am itching really bad, I'm to the point that I don't care how stupidly cold it is outside! Thanks to all of you! Kevin

HOOOOORAAAAAY for TJ!!!!!! -
The schedule I am currently on has me with Thursday, Friday, Saturday off. But, with a couple weeks advance notice, I can usually work out a trade with someone to get a Sunday off. Let me know when and we'll make it happen!

Hey Nessie! Thanks for givin' it a look! When I stripped all the old hardware off, I sanded and sanded and sanded some more. I started with 600 grit and worked it down to wet-sanding the blank with 2000 grit to make it nice and smooth. Then started putting very light coats of Valspar Hi-Gloss Clear Laquer that I picked up at Lowes in an aerosol can (wet sanding with that 2000 grit between coats.) After maybe 8 to 10 coats, I finally got a sheen that I was satisfied with. I encourage you to get on that old ugly 8 weight and make her pretty! It really wasn't that hard and cost very little, not to mention it was a lot of fun! Thanks again and good luck! Kevin

Duane, those look awesome! If they take an hour to tie and you charge 30 bucks per fly? Not bad!
-
Haven't tied a gosh darn thing yet. But I'm thinking about a White Bass Streamer of sort's. I get bored with Clouser's.

Tim, thanks for the compliments! Like yourself, I really dig the glass rods. I have a 7'6" 3 weight Lamiglass that I built over a decade ago and have about 60 bucks in it. I have got more mileage out of it than any other rod I have ever owned! Pretty jazzed up about the "new" addition! Thanks again for checking it out! Kevin

A few months ago I was out in the garage looking for something that I don't remember and I found this old Fiberglass fly rod that I forgot I had. I thought, hey it would be cool to strip it down to a blank and put some new components on it..............make it fishable again! So broke the old cork off the handle, cut the guides off and started sanding all the old varnish off the blank. When I got it all sanded smooth, I sprayed several coats of clear lacquer on the blank to get that shine back. I then built a cork ring handle on it. Then I laithed it down to shape. I had a hard time finding a reel seat with a big enough inner diameter to fit the fat fiberglass rod. So I found one close and then filed the inside down till it fit. Wrapped the guides, and threw some epoxy at it and called it good! It's a 7'6" that throw's a 5 weight line pretty good. Think I'll use it on some smallmouth streams next year!

So my Girlfriend has family from around Greenfield and every year they go all out for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I have been looking forward to this year quite exclusively for some time, cause I missed the last two years due to work. So this year............PIG OUT!!!!! I made the mistake of not wearing some fat-boy-friendly elastic wasted pants.....what was I thinking?!? Food was fantastic, I overindulged! When we got home, someone else indulged as well on the Thanksgiving Gorge-Yourself-Sick festivities! Our 3 year old Brittany (Who is crate trained, but, on good behavior we decided to leave out in the house) Chose to tear into our 110lb Golden's food bag and eat about 20lbs of Large Breed Iam's, celebrating her own "Thanksgiving"!!!!! 2 and 1/2 hours later when we returned, she needed out in a bad way!!!!! She puked and she pooped and she puked and she pooped! I felt so bad for her. She has always been good in the past, we have left her out for many hours and she behaved quite well. I think she knew that today was Thanksgiving and wanted to fit in with the overendulgent human's! During her recovery, here is a shot of her chilling on the couch. She seem's to be fine now. But I was really worried about our little piggy for most of the day!

I think that GPS's are a very cool gadget (even though I don't own one.) Although, you still have to use a smidgeon of common sense on your journey. Example: I work at the airport in Springfield. This past May we moved from the old terminal, located off of West Kearney, to the new terminal, located off of West Division. Keep in mind this has been very much publicized and blatantly marked with signs, billboards and what-have-ya. On a daily basis, we have people that miss their scheduled flights because their "GPS guided them to the Old Terminal!" Are they so focused on their GPS that signs and all other surroundings vanish? I don't know. On the other hand..........my Brother has a TomTom that we used on a road trip from Ohio back to Missouri a few months ago and it saved our behinds navigating the outskirts of Chicago at night during a Thunderstorm! I'm torn! Maybe I like being lost every once in a while. Just not in Southside of Chicago! Kevin

The Whos Coming List (and Bringing What)
Wheatenheimer replied to Leonard's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
Allright, if you put it that way............I'm in!!!! I will bring the Whiskey if someone else brings the beer! And, Ronnie, it's your turn to drive! Kevin -
Hey thanks to all for your comments and taking a peek at a good friends passion! Yes, indeed, it has a lot of rocker to it. Four inches to be exact. More than most, until you get into the Mad River Whitewater Canoes. A while back, Louis and I were sitting around the campfire and he mentioned to me that the boat he and his Brother were working on was going to be a "sports car", meaning that it would have great response, great speed and little water resistance. I found this exciting! How many times do you wish that you would've been able to make that quick upstream turn perfectly into an eddy that looked pretty fishy and your long, flat, boat just didn't want to submit? Now, in order to make a boat like this slower to respond, you have to put more hull surface on the water.............add weight! This can be done in many creative ways: 1. Full cooler and gear placed at the bow. 2. Bring your 110lb Golden Retriever. (If you don't have one, I'll lone ya mine.) 3. Ask Flysmallie if he would like to go fishing...........that will give you all kinds of "hull to water" surface area! Honestly guys, I'm not employed by Two Brothers. I'm not getting a commision. I am not being blackmailed by Louis Shaw or his Brother. I just know that these are great guys and they build a great product. I feel honored that not only do I own one of the first boats that they built, but a friend built it for me! Thanks again.............oh, and congratulations Eric on the upcoming offspring! Kevin
