  1. A bit off topic, but I like the idea on the other stickbait thread of painting some of them belly up! - I would agree with the Sour Grape color, Aurora Blue and a Ghost Minnow color. - Oh wait, that won't work, the pointer is asymetrical. - dtrs, post a pic of the chartreuse foil with purple back you conjured up, that sounds awesome! (and I don't recall it's appearance when it was in your avatar)
  2. Sounds like those COe guys could be meterologists. You rarely have to get things correct, and you still keep your job!
  3. -Belly up rogue..........GENIUS! What a cool idea. - That thing looks awesome dtrs!
  4. - Nice LM vacation!
  5. - Be sure to report back Joe, and let us know how your day went.
  6. - I can only respond to these 2. - I like VMC short shank hooks (I think they are standard equipment on Rapala's?) from Cabelas. # 4 and #6 on 2 hook baits; smaller on the rear. - And I bought some nice VMC feathered trebles on Ebay. $8.50 for 20 feathered trebles. They've held up gret so far. - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=180402701337
  7. - Phishful, were you able to put anything together in time for weigh-in? - Whenever I fish tourney's, I put something together in the last hour, and I fall short at weigh-in. But, then I'll fish a day after for the fun of it, and have a limit in the first hour I'm on the water! A dollar short, and a day late; that's how I end up.
  8. We got a later than usual start due to getting out of work late, and then construction traffic had us sitting on the highway an hour plus out from the lake. - Anywho, we got on the water about 9:30 p.m. friday night. The wind was blowing pretty good, overcast blocking the full moon; but the forecasts all had it too die down shortly thereafter. Wulp, they were wrong. - We fought that darn wind until about 1:30 a.m.. The fish just would not cooperate. Using the multiple tried-and-true tactics, in the usual spots; we could only boat a handful of fish. And with windchills in the 40's, that was a bit rough. (We were dressed appropriately, but that wind can be a very demoralizing factor in a boat, not catching fish ) - We couldn't touch a thing on the more shallow shorelines, with pea gravel. So we moved out to the main channel along the ledges. I was graphing baitfish, and usually when we drop something through the clouds of baitfish, the white bass are close behind. This was hardly the case. I guess they had a bad case of lockjaw. - The winds laid down a bit around 1:00, when the clouds cleared; but it felt like the temps took a harsher dip then too. - Oh well, yah win some, you lose some.
  9. Here's some details. Looks like a variety of tactics. - http://stren.flwoutdoors.com/
  10. - I don't seem to be able to find it. :-( - Maybe I'm overlooking it, anyway to post a link?
  11. - Awww dang troutgnat! That sounds fantastic. Whites on a flyrod,................. and into November too! Whoo, I like the sounds of that.
  12. I hope this doesn't pull things too far off track. But, how late in the season is it common to keep catching white bass?
  13. Beautiful fish! Great to see such a nice fish caught............and released!
  14. Thanks for clearing that up Wayne. A co-worker was badmouthing CXX he had on a spinning reel, for having too much memory and being too stiff. I had to explain the difference between the CX and CXX. Whether he believed me or not?.......who knows. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make 'em drink.
  15. I've been addicted to P-Line's Fluoro for quite some time in the 8 pound. I tried the Halo (fluoro) in Mist Green last year, and seems to disappear even better underwater. I love it!
  16. Here's a question, somewhat off track: - How late in the year is it worth fishing for whites/hybrids on LOZ? - The guys I've fished with only fish thru October, because hunting season starts in Illinois, where they've got property.
  17. - Great pic sr! - I've been posting here and there on the LOZ side with white/hybrid report. Those whites/hybrids don't get the credit they deserve; for how much fun they are! - I was telling my wife, getting someone out on the water catching loads of whites/hybrids is the best way to addict them to fishing. Although it may spoil them a bit, they'll get the bug! - The limited time I've had on the water this year has mainly been chasing whites. No complaints, it's a heckuva good time; it'll just make it tough next time I'm after the ole black bass.
  18. - Yup, Pantera. You certainly know the characteristics of the hull. Spot on! No complaints though, would love something newer/bigger, etc. But, that'll have to be down the road a few years. - You need to get out their and treat yourself with those whites/hybrids. Catching #'s like we were, and the pace we were; sure makes it tough to go back to catching blacks using soft plastics.
  19. - Holy Moly Glen! I think my head might explode with that kind of action! That would be unreal! Awww man, the thought of fly fishing for whites in the spring. (insert Homer Simposn droooling sound effect) - - I don't blame yah Cricket. I've got a 20 foot Basscat (old dawg-1986) and we were getting bounced around pretty good on the main channel with that wind. No other boats, just the wind and driven waves, whippin' up on us! - I even mentioned to the guys that I was with; when you look out across the main channel (VERY wide part of the lake), it was pitch dark, no moon, wind trying to push us into the rocks; it was a bit unnerving if yah think about it. ............So I just didn't think about it.
  20. - White bass on a flyrod. Now THAT would be fun! - Cricket, I'm not sure how big your boat is. But, overnight during the week, there is not a soul on the water. That's when we were out. Its nice and calm.
  21. - Those ledges are the best Glen! The whites and hybrids are above and beyond, the funnest fish to catch in the lake. I feel foolish that I never really gave them much thought years back. But, now it's gonna be kinda tough fishing for black bass, dragging soft plastics; and having to feel for the subtle bite. - We couldn't get down to some of the areas we PM'd about. The guys I had with me, wanted to hang out in the Glaize area. - But I will say, you were onto something when we PM'd about the speed of the retrieve! Thanks again!
  22. Got on the water about 8:30 p.m. and went to our usual spot, of gradual sloping, pea gravel shoreline. Worked it over like we usually do with small, tight wobbling crankbaits (see my previous report a few posts down). After an hour with one small, black bass. We pressed on. - Got to our second spot on the main channel, windswept shoreline, with about a 30 degree slope shoreline. Winds were about 10mph, I'd say gusting to 15. (Kinda tricky holding on the main channel) Water came up from 50-40 feet to a small shelf of about 10-15 feet, and we had the boat about 2 cast lengths from shore. Things lit up! Anyone within earshot would've heard us whoopin' it up! - There were 3 of us in the boat (one of us a fishing novice, but he did great!). We had countless doubles on at a time. Several hybrids/stripers in the 5-6 pound range. After about 4 hours of fishing, we boated over 60+ fish. Mainly whites, but a couple 3 pound largemouth. - I guess the fish were a bit lazy, and didn't want to patrol the gradual sloping pea gravel shorelines. They wanted to hang around the ledge for quicker access to deeper water. - One of us just had a slow steady retrieve and was catching nice fish. - I was using a faster retrive, with constant hard jerks of the rod. To give the bait an erratic action. That seemd to get the bigger fish to hit. But not as many small ones. Which I'm fine with. - My forearm is still sore after working that rod with those constant jerks for 4 hours; but well worth it! - Cabelas 2" suspending, Rad Shad in the Blue Racer and Flasher were the big winners. - (Anyone who doesn't white bass fish is missing out. They fight much harder than those largemouth. It's a great time!)
  23. How cool is that Phil!?!!? - I'd love to see more videos of The Rock like that. It's great seeing the action on the water, when I can't get down there. - And it's not necessary to show background details if it'll give away any spots. Just some of the action.
  24. - Dang gitnby, I forgot to reply to this. I chuckled at this post, picturing those contraptions. Sounds like a few of the unholy, frankenstein lures I've concocted over the years. (with limited succes :-( But, that old guy on your dock was right. Gotta give 'em something they have'nt seen. - Not to conjure up an old thread, but this is an interesting topic. - Anybody use the deep diving jerkbaits out there with any success? - It would seem if the fish were in 20-30 foot of water, getting a jerkbait down closer to their face, vs. several feet above would be more productive?
  25. - Dang...............what's a helleecoptir? - Sounds like this guy has way more money than sense. - Here's a link to it on the MSWP website. - http://www.mswp.dps.mo.gov/News/NRDetail.asp?ID=N07090166 - I'm a bit skeptical on the Summary. - And, I don't pay much attention to the damage estimate. My understanding is that law enforcement just has to put something there. I imagine if this thing ran aground (hit seawall?), it's gonna cost WAY more than $20k to fix?
