  1. Dang gitnby, that's awesome! Great looking fish, either way. Plump looking belly there! - I had a few smallies in the spring that were'nt real fat, and those that hung over my 18" board by an inch or 2 were right at 4 lbs. So I'd agree with the 5 lb thought! - Love that avatar too!
  2. Very nice Zach! Thank You. I hope to make it down next week. (fingers crossed)
  3. Good info guys! - Hey Zach, out of curiosity, what hours were you fishing?
  4. Great report Bill. I have to fish through you guys on the boards here for a while. What a fantastic read! - For those of you who have never fished for, or caught white bass; it's a hoot! - I really never thought of fishing for them until a few years ago, when a co-worker turned me onto the idea. I now absolutely love it. It really is great fun. And like Bill mentioned, when their meat is snow white, they are Deeeelicious. - Now those of you who can get out there and thin them out............GET TO IT!
  5. Nice fish rps. That things lookin' tubby! Looks like he's eatin' right. It's always tough getting good fish pix yourself. I've got a few that look the same. - Darwin doesn't seem to be at it, as hard as he should! WAY to many inconsiderate fools out there.
  6. - Keep us posted techo!
  7. - FYI: I modified the title of the thread to just 'activity', as opposed to 'surfacing'. - Also, let us know how it goes Zach.
  8. That's funny techo. If that gal had more than 4 functioning brain cells, she'd be out on the water, enjoying the quality time they would spend together! - Her loss. - Hats off to your better half. My wife likes to get on the water with me and enjoy the tranquility, but not fishing......................weird!
  9. - Thanks fishin, that's just what I wanted to hear; some signs of life! We typically hit the Glaize arm, and just the areas you mentioned. We fish at night a nyway, so as soon as that sun starts to dip, things come to life. Looks like it'll be worth a run down in a week or 2? - I appreciate the quick reply. It's a shame more people don't post over here, considering the amount of people that fish LOZ. Maybe they should follow our example on the Table Rock side of the site?
  10. I know at some of the other ozark lakes, the white bass have been breaking the surface ans really schooling up. Just curious if anyone who's been out in a while seen them breaking the surface? How about at night? - I was going to try and shoot down in a week or 2, and was curious if there's been any activity. Thanks in Advance!
  11. - Amen RS, that's a great touch on those baits Larry. - And you also bring up a good point about fishing around timber. I do find that I'm hesitant, casting into the tight spots with the pricier lures. Kinda defeats the purpose though. - How about the squad minnow. Has anyone experienced their weight transfer system, to stop the bait quicker than other jerkbaits? (as they claim)
  12. Awesome info Larry! Those are some great looking trebles you tie there too! - While were on the general jerkbait talk. Here's another question. What are your thoughts on the performance/action of Megabass 110's vs. other less expensive jerks, like the McStick? - (I know the visible detail is impressive, but since they're darn near twice the price of others, are they twice as good performers?)
  13. If I'm seeing the results right bill, 13 to 14 would've had you in the money. Right up there with Snowden and Wenners. (Assuming you were going to fish the Team event today?) - That's nothing to scoff at!
  14. Dang Larry! I had no idea. I'll have to look into the Super Rogue. I was unfamiliar. Glad to hear they've got the internal weight transfer setup. That was my main gripe about the suspending rogue.
  15. - I'm with yah RS, BPS had some Excaliber RS4's on clearance, 50% off, so I grabbed a handful, they really put the rogue to shame. Like I mentioned before, if one can find a jerkbait with the internal weight (not just rattles), that really seems to be the litmus test. Those with vs. those without. The pricier ones tend to have it (along with other perks), the rogues..............don't. - For those unfamiliar with the internal weight thing; I was trying to explain it to a buddy of mine, and the best way I found to tell, seems to be if you hold the bait in the store, pinch the package (WITHOUT damaging it!) to try and keep the hooks from rattling. Point the bait nose up, then slowly turn it over, nose down; you'll feel, and hear the large weight roll from one end to the other. This makes a great difference in castability. - Regarding color. We did well with the black back, chrome body baits. And other subtle variations, of muted silver colors. (ghost minnow, TRS, etc.) We really couldn't pin down any specific color. (frustratingly )
  16. - Agreed, very cool! I'm hearing more and more about jerkbaits not just being a cold water bait. (as I've always assumed)
  17. I've been leaning toward the feathered trebles myself. I really like the Excaliber brand ones at BPS. They've got a very subtle shimmery (if that's a word?) material in them. - I picked up some Excaliber jerkbaits on clearance last year at BPS, and they were great. Then I got some McSticks and River2Sea ones on the cheap. And I love those even more. Those internal weighted jerks are the cats a$$! I haven't brought myself to pay full retail for the Megabass or LC's................................yet. - For those just passing through this thread....................don't be shy; let's hear what you think. - I have another jerkbait question, but I'll wait to post it when this thread fizzles out. I'm bad about keeping my scatterbrain on topic.
  18. I posted this on another message board, with little response. I know it may not be jerkbait time of year, but this is bugging me. - I searched and searched here, but couldn't find the answer I was after. - I thought someone mentioned a few months ago, that they religiously change all the tail hooks of their jerkbaits to feathered trebles? - So if any of you jerkbait fans out there have an opinion; please jump right in and sound off! - (I posted here, because I was looking for more thoughts on those throwing jerkbaits on Table Rock))
  19. Good info gitnby, way to experiment! - We did a similar thing, fooling around with a drop shot rig this spring. We had a traditional drop shot rig tied on. We would cast it out, keep the line slightly taught, and slowly drag the bait back to the boat. It just gave the fish a different look, and it worked. One of us would throw the dropshot ssetup, and the other a carolina and/or texas rig throughout the day. The dropshot drag setup had far better results. Pretty impressive actually. I guess it was just a different look, at the same ole bait.
  20. - Very cool pic techo! That walleye has some great color to it!
  21. - Yah, lets see it techo. I bet that was a cool surprise. - Hey techo, that spinnerbait action wasn't in March was it? (with that snow/sleet mess?)
  22. Good results considering you had the little ones with you. I've all but given up me fishing with the little ones in the boat. But, they're getting better about it as they get older. - That's awesome when those whites start schooling up!
  23. - Well that was quickly edited. - Wonder who Bill was talking about? - http://ozarkanglers.com/forums/index.php?s...t=0&start=0
  24. - Admittedly, this spring we were on some great smallies at The Rock, and had a great bite going on, when a storm was rolling in. It was tough to pull ourselves off the water, but when we had a large lightning strike the next cove over; we packed up. That startled me plenty, and woke me up. - In hindsight it was foolish sticking it out as long as we did. It certainly won't happen again.
  25. Yikes Spinnaker, that's some scary stuff. I've heard others tell of that similar sensation just before a lightning strike; but thankfully; I've never felt it. Glad you're O.K. - It'll be interesting to hear if anyone else got caught out in it?
