  1. Were about a mile north of 412 on the White. Just looked out the window and lots of logs/trash floating in the chocolate milk. Be careful if your out in this end of the lake.
  2. We should be calling the White the Big Muddy the way it looks today. I bet the mud doesn't clear up till Monte Ne or maybe Horseshoe Bend.
  3. I've saw one guide that had an impressive set up. About a 12' diameter stock tank under roof and fed by cool spring water. Anybody ever try Black Salties? Shipped right to your door. There is a guide working out of War Eagle that was using them.
  4. They have been talking about doing this for a few years. Idea is to keep zebra musscles out of the lake.
  5. This is one out of red oak I made for B-I-L's wedding present13 years ago. There divorced now and he got the rod rack. Made this one out of quarter sawn white oak a couple months ago for my man cave. No wall space required and that is a big factor in the shop. I like it well enough, think I'll make another one. Both racks came from trees I harvested and sawed/dried the lumber myself.
  6. BassPro has the Lowrance Elite 5 base model on sale for $319 so I ordered one. I think it is near the same as my old 520C. I mostly use my Humminbird 898 on the bow when fishing.
  7. Don't be saying that...I got maybe a dozen left and it makes me cringe every time I tie one on. I really cringe when I bump bottom with one. There is a guy that has a small tackle shop on 264 highway towards Hickory that buys and resells them. I think he was asking maybe $12 to $15 range, but this has been a couple of years ago.
  8. Don't miss out on this one guys. I just noticed on Fayetteville craigslist, under sporting there was an add posted this morning for an original Wiggle Wart. The seller knows it is worth at least a $100 according to local rumor. He is taking bids, so this may be the chance you have been waiting for to own an original. I can't wait to get my bid in.
  9. Greg, your not the only one that came back fish-less today. Maybe some help for others. Water temperature at the 412 bridge on the White was 39 degrees...I forgot the snow melt would be cold. Hickory was 44 degrees with some bait clouds in the channel. Monte Ne to Horseshoe Bend was 47 degrees. Didn't see much bait but I didn't fish there long. At least I have some information that may help if I get out tomorrow or Thursday. Off topic. My Lowrance 520C on the console has been shutting down sometimes after a few minutes and sometimes it will stay on for an hour. Like to find something on sale with the same features to replace it. Maybe somebody knows of a model being closed out? I have a near new Huminbird 898 with SI on the bow.
  10. Two weeks ago they were up War Eagle right past the power line. Tuesday I started there but they had left. Fished back down to point 12 and up the White to a little past the marina. No fish and didn't see anything of interest on the graph. Water temp in the low 50's so the winter bite should be in earnest after this bit of nasty weather departs.
  11. I got to fish in that area last night for a couple of hours. Drug an umbrella around the islands trying for stripers. No bites but I didn’t expect any as I didn’t see much bait. Gave up on that idea and tried for walleye. They are alive and well in Coose but only 17” long.
  12. Has anybody tried it? I downloaded the free version with the #7 Flicker Shad and it does look interesting. Here is a link for anybody interested. http://www.thenextbite.tv/Precision_Trolling
  13. My Starcraft. Equipped with two Cannon down riggers. I had a Scotty that I imported from my old Lund for a while, but the crank was awkward to use on the Starcraft so it got replaced with a Cannon. With the wireless Minnkota Terova trolling motor down rigging is easy even when I’m out by myself. I’ll stack on the riggers so I can run four rods there and another four rods off planer boards. When I have a partner we put out a lot more rods. Of course this is for stripers. Only two rods out for walleye. The riggers sure make it fast to vary lure depth.
  14. I put a Humminbird 898C HD on the trolling motor a few weeks ago. I was vertical jigging for stripers on Beaver the other day and noticed something. The sonar was picking up my spoon and also my knot where I tied the mono leader to the braid. My Lowrance 520C on the console won't do that. The DI is impressive. I'm not smart nuff to understand what the SI is telling me. I figure it will take a while before I'll be able to give a really objective review of my new Humminbird. Good luck with your decision.
  15. I haven't seen any mention of downriggers. When the stripers are 40' down, in the tree tops there pretty effective. At least for me. I've been thinking about going after walleye on the bottom using them this year. Something I haven't tried. With something like a redfin on depth control would be fast and accurate.
  16. I've had two different 50 HP Mercs that were excellent trolling motors but I had to use synthetic oil. My current boat has a 150 Merc which is impossible to use for trolling. I carry a 9.9 two stroke kicker. It is supposed to use 50:1 oil but I mix at 75:1. I also upgraded my batteries this year to two of the biggest Trojans. They are lasting a longer than the Interstates they replaced.
  17. i was a new boater...50 years ago. Made every mistake possible. Practice does improve performance. At one time I dropped a ski boat into the lake almost every night during the summer. About 30 seconds unloading and the same coming out. Sometimes I can make a helpful suggestion that can help the new boater. Other times I bite my tongue as some folks don't take kindly to suggestions. Having wrote the above, I rarely see a ramp during the weekends or holidays. Retirement does have advantages.
  18. Gates open but how much? Generators running WOT right now and the lake is still coming up. Good thing most of the stripers are still south or Table Rock could have a new fishery.
  19. The White is muddy. Seen a lot of boats out but not heard of anybody nailing the whites as of yet. Thunder and lightening as a type this...looks like a good one blowing up.
  20. As of 4:27 PM its still froze.
  21. Read in the news they are building a new 75,000 square foot building close to the old Sportsman Warehouse in Rogers. Didn't say when the grand opening is scheduled.
  22. Donna is talking about the Prairie Creek tourney...it's an annual bash that's been going on for a long time. I was sorta thinking about fishing out of Hickory in the striper derby. No idea where the fish are...the upper end has been devoid of fisherman over the last few days. The White is pretty muddy and that's bout all I know. Where ya find that mean old striper at? There good at stealing lures from unsuspecting fisherman.
  23. Fished the White this morning for stripers. Mud and trash starts to clear up above Blue Springs. Water temperature 59 degrees. Didn’t mark a fish or any bait...needless to say didn’t catch anything either. Turned the boat around about noon and went up War Eagle. Maybe a mile in I started marking all kinds of bait and fish. Fished about an hour and no bites...they musta been full from there noon meal. Water temperature 63 degrees.
  24. Almost as good as being there...and a lot warmer in front of the PC. Interesting graph here... What's going on? Are you up in Ventris? Think I'm going to try and get above the mud a little later in the week. Thanks for taking the time to share.
  25. Up over 6" overnight...think they had a real toad strangler up in the headwaters.
