  1. Fished this morning from 8am to 1pm. We rented from Lilley's which was a great experience. Perfect trout fishing weather. It was overcast and in the low 60s all morning. Caught a break from the weather which we thought was supposed to be rain all day. Three of us caught about 30 bows with the biggest three at 18, 20, and 21 inches. All the big ones (and about 90% of the fish) were on white 1/8 or 3/32 jigs. We also caught fish on sculpin jigs, rainbow jerk bait, and power eggs. We went up to the shallows above Fall Creek but most fish were caught by Trout Hollow. Didn't have much luck upstream from there. Overall it was a great day. It's been about 4 years since I have been trout fishing, and now I'm wondering why. Yes we did keep the fish which I VERY RARELY do, but I have 20 family members in town for my wedding this weekend so we will make good use of them.
  2. I did send them a FB message. They responded quickly, acknowledged the issues, and said they were working on solutions. I hope they can get everything figured out.
  3. Ya. There were plenty of holes where you were just like, "oh yea, I'm going to catch one here FOR SURE"...and then nothing happened. I even broke from my normal (and usually successful) tube bait bottom bouncing in current strategy and started fishing the slower water with spinners and rebel craws and faster water with heavier jigs...nothing.
  4. We did see crawdads out in the open in one spot about halfway down where a feeder stream came in. Funny you mention it because I thought it was odd too. Don't know if it is relevant or not but the last half was absolutely riddled with turtles. Must have saw a thousand. Every log had 6 to a dozen from babies to steering wheel sized.
  5. Floated Sand Shoals to Boiling Springs yesterday. This was my first trip to the Piney but I could tell the river was up from normal levels. Fishing was very tough. I got one 10" smaller right at the bridge by the put in and then nothing else. My friend didn't catch anything. I've had some tough days river fishing but even my worst on the Jacks Fork, Meramac, Huzzah, Elk, Current, and Bufallo have produced at least a half dozen fish. Not sure what happened but such is life. Evidently Boiling Springs has new owners. I really don't want to be hard on new business owners, but if they don't get their stuff together before the holiday weekend, it may be their last. It took them 15 minutes just to process my payment for the cabins. Saturday morning I went to the shop to schedule our float. They said the van would take us in 10 minutes. My friend and I scramble to get ready and then end up sitting outside for almost 2 hours as the owners and staff walk back and forth looking lost carrying a paddle or life jacket or two at time to various different vehicles. Several other guests were visibility upset and had similar complaints about being told to get ready right away while ending up having to wait over an hour. This morning when I went to check out, I stood in line for another 15 minutes while they checked out another guest who hadn't paid yet. When he was finally done, they started chatting and took another few minutes to finally end the conversation. I hope they get their processes worked out before the season really gets going.

  7. Now I'm thinking about it again. Darn all of you. I wonder if incorporating sand volleyball socks into a wading shoe would work. Any thoughts? http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00A9UXGCA/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1463539843&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=sand+volleyball+shoes&dpPl=1&dpID=41fa5KhMeiL&ref=plSrch
  8. I've started doing this as well. Asics seem to work well and dry quickly
  9. No sir. Haven't floated that section before but always wanted to. I imagine we will see an update here at some point soon on whether or not it is passable.
  10. I'd be interested
  11. Presidents are all I use. I have had Mitchell's, Shimanos, and Quantums in similar price ranges and the Pfluegers gave outlasted all of them and then some.
  12. Figured I'd let everyone know that my company is hiring about 40 employees for various warehousing and distribution positions starting now and running through July. Available positions can be seen and applied for here: http://www.srclogisticsinc.com/opportunities We are also running a Facebook campaign where you can win a 55" LED TV for liking the page and a post. That can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/SRCLogisticsInc/?fref=ts Feel free to post any general questions. If you want to discuss pay, PM me. Thanks
  13. Let me know if you ever want some company. I have been meaning to get my kayak on Bull for years.
  14. Where can you buy those?
  15. The Eminence to Two Rivers section is the best fishing in my opinion and generally less crowded. Even on a summer Saturday, it isn't too bad if you get out a bit early or a bit late. It is tempting to paddle the last bit after being out that long but the river from Shawnee Creek to Two Rivers has always produced a lot of big fish for our group. I've caught some pigs right in front of the store there.
  16. Quick report: Four of us floated from Eminence to Two Rivers. Put in at 11:30 and took out at 7:15. Fish were on fire. All four of us caught about three dozen fish conservatively. Two in the 17-18" range. Two in the 15" ball park and then a bunch of 12 inchers. All caught on bitsy tubes with 1/8 oz marabou jigs. The best colors were green and brown with yellow jigs. On a side note, I fished with live crawdads and rebel craws quite a bit and didn't catch a single smallie. Got one bite on the rebel. I know a lot of members use them almost exclusively so I wanted to give it a try but no luck. Guess I will stick to the trusty bitsy tubes.
  17. They are no different in regards to fire escapes as any condo or apartment complex that size at the lake or in any city. Yes I know back in the day the old brick buildings had central staircases with iron escape stairs but that's not how they build them anymore, anywhere, lakeside or not. You can go next door to Lands End which has a couple sets of stairs per building but the buildings are 3 or 4 times larger. I know first hand that Compass Point has and enforces very strict rules on the residents to prevent stuff like this.
  18. I grew up fishing the mouth of the Little Niangua at my friend's place. We always caught a lot of large mouth, crappie, gills, and catfish, but never a walleye and only one smallmouth. I will say it is still my favorite place to fish on the whole lake. Maybe I've just been there a lot but I have never caught fish as consistently anywhere else on the lake as I have there.
  19. We floated 8 miles to Two Sons on Saturday (don't remember the put in's name). The river was higher than I'm used to there but completely safe, a little stained but definitely not murky and not much debris. We did the 8 miles in less than 4 hours in rafts (not a fishing trip though I brought a rod and hooked some smallies).
  20. I used to have good luck at Bee Tree in the Spring several years ago. Never caught anything huge but have personally seen others catch a couple over 5lbs.
  21. Not to hijack the thread but where are the catfish holding?
  22. For sale is a like new Summit Viper SD climbing tree stand. It has been up a tree exactly twice. Many love this stand so I tried it but am going to stick to fixed stands. This is one of the lightest stands available at 20lbs. Will include an HSS X-1 Bowhunter harness for free. $200 FTF in Springfield https://www.rogerssportinggoods.com/summit-viper-sd-climbing-treestand.html?utm_source=google_shopping&gclid=CLWd7pyM7MICFQinaQodiU8AWA
  23. Can you camp on the gravel bar there if you wanted to avoid the people at the regular campground? There also appears to be a boat ramp and parking lot a couple hundred yards from where the outfitters pull you out. Is that a public access ramp? Thanks
  24. I'm going the opposite direction as you. I've always been a medium-light to light action with 8lb line bouncing Bitsy Tubes on the bottom. I'm starting to shift to 10lb line with medium action.
  25. +1 million. It's hard to say what happened out of frame of that video, but if it was me, my gun would have already been out and those dirtbags would have either ran or....
