  1. Other people on hear now lifetimes more than me about fly fishing but I have always had success striping small green wooly buggers or similar style flies above the dam. Everyone always says to use sinking fly line (and they are probably right) but I always forget my real with sinking line so I usually just use flies with bead heads.
  2. It will mostly be either me or just one other person but I am a scrony 150 lbs. And if I find something I love with an older motor at a good price I may definitely be interested in those 25s.
  3. Man your tough. Gotta love the Jack's Fork though. Thanks for the pics.
  4. I would say you should probably avoid swivels. As far as line, I use 6lb P-Line CX Premium(Fluorocarbon) for jerkbaits. It is really strong, low memory, has thinner diameter than Vanish, and is cheaper (I think). For jigs, 4lb is probably the max you should use. I love green Maxima in 2 lb but there are some other good brands out there. Lots of people use Vanish or Tectan, and I bet the P-line in 2lb would be pretty good as well.
  5. Alright, so it looks like I am going to purchase my first boat. I am looking into a 12-16ft jon. My question is what is the minimum horse power I can safely get away with on Taney on a 12'? 14'? 16'? I am trying VERY hard to keep it under $2000, but I want a reliable motor made some time in the last decade and a half so horse power is probably where I am going to have to sacrifice. I'm not looking to zip around the lake. Just something to get me upstream. Thanks
  6. Water was off today and somewhere around 701'. Fish were feeding all over the place. Got in the water a little before 10 and fished on the far side between Outlets 1 and 2. Caught two 18-20 inchers in the first 30 minutes off a gray scud. I don't know how much the big one weighed but it was fat and football shaped. Definitely one of the biggest trout I've caught in my in-illustrious fly fishing career.I caught a few smaller ones over the next hour or so before taking a break for lunch. After lunch I picked up the spinning rod and caught around 6 rainbows between 12 and 16" on a white jig and a little rainbow trout jerkbait before leaving at about 3:30. Not a bad day (for me).
  7. So I would prefer to go to Taney over Bennett tomorrow but I don't know if the weather tonight is going to spoil my plans. You guys think the tailwater is going to be wadeable tomorrow around 9am. I called the hotline and they said 0 units all day tomorrow.
  8. I would be interested in knowing more about this creek as well.
  9. Haven't been down to Bennett on a Sunday in a long time. How crowded do you think it will be tomorrow? I may head to Taneycomo instead but the forecast looks a little better up north.
  10. I've heard Lake Jacamo (Jacomo?) is supposed to be pretty good this time of the year. It think it gets hit pretty hard in the summer though with boaters and fisherman.
  11. That is a beautiful river. I would love to float that some day.
  12. Looks like quite a day. If I only had a place to store (and the money for) a boat. College sucks.
  13. Very cool. I wish I had time to kill there.
  14. I'm assuming wade fishing by the dam is completely out of the question?
  15. I like P-Line Premium a lot in 6 pound.
  16. I need to work real early Saturday morning so I can't stay too late, but if the fishing is good I'll stay till 8 or 9. While we're on the subject, you guys have any tips on night fishing since I want to do it a lot this summer. Should I bring a bright headlight for walking around with a red game light for tying or should I just bring a little cap light for tying hooks?
  17. I am going down on Friday between the dam and the boat ramp hopefully by about 2 or 2:15. I'm 20 years old, 6 feet tall, I'll be wearing a camo hat, blue lens sunglasses, light tan waders, and a tan vest with BSSP tags on the back. If you want, give me a shout. It'll only be my second time down there so I could always use some pointers. Sam
  18. Thanks for the detailed report. I'll be down at the dam on Friday especially if the current weather forecast holds up. EDIT If one wanted to go after bigger fish (browns or rainbows), how is the area around the boat ramp by the dam? Last Thursday I caught a 15ish inch bow on a brown trout jerkbait there as well as 5 other 10 or so inchers. I wonder if Brown Trout or Rainbow trout colored would work better?
  19. I guess I'll give it a try. Worst case, I'll have to re-tie a couple tippets. Do you just tie the first fly on regulary then tie another piece of tippet with an improved clinch knot onto the first fly's eye?
  20. How difficult is it to fish with a dropper fly and not get all kinds of birds nests. I am just getting back into fly fishing after a 4 or 5 year lapse (not that I was ever great in the first place).
  21. That's probably it. I was there on my spring break last week.
  22. Thanks for the report. I'm hopefully going down on Friday. Is it always that crowded on a weekday? I was there last Thursday and there wasn't nearly that many people.
  23. I caught 4 at outlet 2 on basically an identical midge. The two guys next to me caught a bunch as well on midges.
  24. I was there yesterday. Started below the dam and couldn't get anything consistent going. Went above the dam with green and dark green bead head wooly buggers and caught ten in about two hours. I didn't have sinking line so I let it sink for about 5-10 seconds then would strip it quickly a couple times and let it fall again.
