  1. Nice fish. The hybrids are my favorite fish to chase. The guy on the left looks familiar. Do any turkey hunting in KS. around Lyons?
  2. Oh I believe you. I just couldn't believe that someone else actually caught crawdads out of the same hole of water the size of a winnebago, that I did, on consecutive nights. What are the chances?
  3. you gotta be kidding me. I went down and caught crawdads out of the same pool on the night of the 4th. That is a great pool for catching crawdads.

last night there was a distinct line from courthouse hollow down towards governors island
  5. rps, What's the name of that magnet tool bar. I could really use one of those.
  6. 2nd that on Dale. That guy catches them every day and he is a super nice guy to boot.

  8. I've never worked as a fishing guide, but I've spent a couple seasons guiding deer, turkey and waterfowl. I am always thankful for whatever a customer wants to give. There are a lot of guys who will not tip, for whatever reason, so I appreciate the ones that do very much and I make sure I tell them so. Bottom line, IMO, tip what you can afford and what you think the guides effort was worth. Then again, I'm not an outfitter. I only work for one occasionally. I might have a different opinion if I was a one man operation like a lot of fishing guides are.
  9. There is a great early and late topwater bite for Whites right now if the jigging spoon isn't your thing. From about a half hour before sunrise to the time the sun hits the water, and again for about the last hour of light those things will knock the heck out of poppers and baby spooks. you might even get lucky and hit a nice hybrid in with them.
  10. It's big sport over here on the west side of the state too. Anywhere we have prairie, there are usually some coyote hunters around. Most of them that I run into don't kill the coyotes anymore. They just let the dogs catch them and then they turn them loose. It's a heritage thing. They grew up listening to dogs run coyotes and coons. It seems like a real social event with sometimes multiple generations of the same family participating.
  11. looks like a real fun time. Good idea.
  12. Missed it by 15 ounces last night. 9lb. 1 oz. Grand
  13. I think Alabama and Texas have the most stocked anually. Based on growth rates, any lake that has a year class of fish at least 4+ years should have good nuumbers (relatively speaking) of double digit fish. I talked to a guy that had two over 10lbs. yesterday afternoon below Pensacola Dam. I've never fished for them on Truman, but I'd like to. I wish there was a more apparent way to distinguish them from Whites when they are little. I think a lot of people clean them before they ever get a chance to be giants thinking they are white bass.
  14. QB, did you get the water temp while you were down there? It was 74 degress up in Elk River last night. The cats should be hitting the rocks very soon. about an hour and 15 minutes, give or take
  15. I don't know...I gave up on the L'Amours at about 15 yrs. old, although I do really like Last of the Breed. It was set in Cold war USSR though..
  16. One of my all time favorites. My favorite part of the book is when the Virginian tells the story about Frog Legs and Delmonicos to the other cowboys to get back at his rival. It's been about ten years, I should read that book again.
  17. Firefish, I have never even glanced twice at it. Thanks for the heads up!. I'll need to add that one to my list. Can you put a big boat in, but only use the trolling motor or are boats with outboards banned?
  18. Just goes to show... No matter how pretty a lake is, there is always some guy who is sick and tired of fishing her. I would give anything to live in between Spavinaw, Eucha, Grand and Hudson. I don't think a lot of people outside of the NE OK natives realize how many lakes ther are in the NE corner of OK. I haven't been able to fish them all yet and I have tried fairly hard to do so.
  19. Bill Babler is a classy dude.
  20. beautiful work. You are an Artist!
  21. Joe, The HDS unit is spliced in on my console to the main power wire coming in off the battery. The big difference in what I get on "normal" settings when I overlay downscan data is that instead of the background being white as it is in your photo, the background is tan. Also, when I do see target data, most of the time the downscan data overpowers the 2D data and everything, including fish, is represented by the tan downscan data. I can remedy this by turning down my sensitivity settings on the 2D, but I don't neccessarily want to do this. What happens is I start only picking fish up with the downscan, but they don't show up on the 2D and I know this is opposite of how it should be. My fish should be showing up in color and my structure should be showing up as tan. I have a memory card in my unit, but I never think to save a screen shot. Next time I am out I will save one and send it to you. I know I should have went to the electronics seminar in Springfield last week, but family committments had my night occupied. Thanks again for taking the time to answer my questions.
  22. Joe, I only have the one HDS unit on the transom, but the transducer cables(both of them) run to the console in the same raceway as my ignition cables and the wiring for my console. Is that the type of close proximity you are talking about? If I were to try and isolotae them, how much separation should I try to get from my other wiring? Did you wrap them in some type of insulative material or did you just separate them? Sorry for the stacking of questions and thanks for the help.
  23. What type of swimbait? Did you catch others? Were they agressive? or did you have to slow it down? I know that I should be able to target them where I like to fish right now, but I don't catch them when I am catching whites, so I know they must be on a slightly different pattern. Probably in the same body of water right now, but not where I am fishing. How far up the tributaries do you find them this time of year? 1/3? 1/2? all the way up? Sorry, I have a lot of questions. Don't feel obligated to answer anything that would jeopordize your spot.
  24. That is a stallion. Nice fish. Please do fill us in on your technique if you can. Were you fishing for whites? or Hybrids specifically? There are times of the year I can catch those birds' at will and there are times when I have no idea where to start looking for them. Always curious about techniques when I see someone catch them. They are definitely my favorite fish to catch.
