Rainbows. I've had pretty good luck there with a spinning rig too. Haven't caught any browns there.
The only dry fly I've tried there was an Adams. I had one hooked up on it but lost him before I could land him. I had it weighted with a split shot under an indicator.
Edit: Haven't tried any nymphs.
I just got back from fly fishing at Branson Landing. I fished from that gravel bar that sticks out in the water between Bass Pro and the bridge. I landed a 13 incher and missed about 6 other ones. I was having trouble setting the hook (I'm new to fly fishing, lol). I only stayed an hour and a half. They were hitting a peach colored roe with a red dot.
My point is, they can be caught right there. With a pair of waders I think I can do better. Gonna get some next payday.
That is a nice boss. I've only been to RR twice. I've had decent luck with small rapalas (black and gold is a good one, so is brown trout) and small gold spoons (Little Cleo or Kastmaster).
Good luck.
I tried to work it slowly, but just fast enough to keep it off the bottom. I did lose one with a cast that was a bit too long. Snagged a bush on the other side. Luckily I had a few with me.
Thanks CC. I throw across the stream, up and down stream at about a 45 degree angle, and work it back slowly and very erratic. Trying to simulate a wounded minnow. I had the best luck at the lower end of the pools.
Fished from 6:30 am to 9:30 am and caught 7 rainbows. Fished the lower part of zone 1. Started with a small rapala (brown trout color) and caught one. Switched to a gold little cleo and got the other 6 in short order. They were really hitting it good. Along with the 7 I landed, I hooked but lost 4 more. I guess I need to sharpen those hooks.
None were really braggin' size but they were nice fighters.
Here's a couple of them. They were all about the same.
EDIT: I threw them all back.
