  1. pretty tough over there this weekend...water was 59 degrees. the night before we went had a storm come thru -- bluebird skies in the morning...i guess it knocked the fish back. wind blew hard in the afternoon. we caught a couple small bass, a small snake, some crawdads, a couple peepers, but zero catfish. fish feeders are supposed to come on later in the month...will try it again in a couple weeks
  2. taking the boys...i've always heard good things. the boys want to catch catfish -- figured this was our best chance.
  3. do those seat pedestals come out??
  4. cricket -- what happened to the slo nuff?? or are you just trying to trade-up??
  5. slo nuff looks good...but does she catch fish...i heard this year there's a prize for big fish the skuttlebutt is -- that chief is putting-up a quart of moonshine
  6. was it a yamaha? that's what mine acts like...shorting out
  7. what kind of a jig head are using with your fluke?? how big is the hook??
  8. i broke the boat out today and the power trim unit was slow to rise -- the batteries seem fine -- but motor acted like it was dragging, and not getting enough juice. anybody had similar experience?? thanks
  9. me and the boys are in -- thanks
  10. what do you think?? fishing for smallmouth/google eye in river situations. i use a 5 weight rod. how long of a tippet material should i use?? the furled leader is 6 foot. i am currently using 3' of 6 lb maxima seems to work ok -- i generally throw sneaky petes, and wooly worms or buggers. just getting into it -- but the furled leader really seems to help unwind the cast.
  11. just noticed that his video is being broadcast on pbs tonight at 6...he's the guy that built his own cabin w/o modern tools in alaska.
  12. i'd stay in the kimberling city area...it's a good part of the lake, and it has pretty fun night life with the bearded clam and ahoy's.
  13. kodak playsport is good and cheap -- i bought ours while on vacation in florida...i didn't want to ruin my other in salt water. playsport shoots video, and 5mp pictures. video quality is plenty good for you tube/etc it's about the size of a candybar phone

i'm not much of a dirty bird fan -- and i don't think the dnr keeps a tight grip on anything that isn't in the best interests of big business. corporate capitalism and the resultant concentration of capital have created industrial economies of scale that have transformed agriculture. ADM, Cargill, Tyson, Monsanto, Con Agra and a few others control...not only american food production...but the entire world's food production. it's not too far fetched to say -- that a day will come when there is a massive food shortage because of this oligarchy.

i agree troutfiend -- i love to see them too. i'm sorry ollie -- i didn't mean to tarnish the photos by saying what i said. i was just trying to make a point about the chicken houses...and the destruction of natural resources. the profiteering of one at the expense of others

they must have just fertilized that field because it is the chicken houses...that brought the ealgles to the area... but it is ironic. the destruction of the ozarks primary natural resource (water) has brought the nations iconic symbol in droves i'd compare that photo to previous posts about the guy who dumped thousands of dead chickens into flat creeek last year. i would bet a lot of money -- that there were dead chickens in the fertilizer.
  18. i like to read. i read the earth is enough off of a similar thread and liked it...so i just went to amazon and bought gene hill and corey ford based off trout fanatics response. my favorites americans are steinbeck and upton sinclair...my favorite twain story is the private history of a campaign that failed. I also like camus. for sci fi...i lean more towards aldous huxley
  19. a 6' ml falcon spinning rod - split shot / tubes / #5 shad rap / grubs / jig head worms...you can catch any fish that swims on this rod. a 7' mh - rig / football jigs / cranks a 6.6 mh - i use it for eakins jigs / worms. it also works well for spinnerbaits if i could have a 4th it would be a 6.6 med for small cranks/jerk baits/topwater i like shimano reels, and falcon or all star rods. their mid-level rod is a heck of a nice rod...spend your money on the reel.
  20. what do you mean -- front platform is cracked?? is it structual?? how long is the boat?? looks like a good deal...where is it??
  21. catch a lot of them bass fishing at night. you think you have a nice bass, but when they start that circling swimming action...you know you got a drum.

ivan martin from grand lake -- goes to lake cuchillo and has guide trips for a couple months each winter. it's just south of McAllen TX. i know a couple guys that have been with and it is supposed to be good fishing. i think for my money -- i'd stay in the good ole usa and go to south texas and fish lake Amistad you wouldn't have to mess with a passport, and the fishing is awesome. as far as a time to go -- i'd say wait til superbowl weekend at least
  23. i found an old youth winchester model 67...a single shot bolt action that was discontinued in 1963. i like it but the guy thinks it is a collectors so he is proud of it. the henry doesn't have a safety, and i don't like how you have to de-cock the hammer on lever actions... a guy told me he would order a marlin 915Y -- it's a modern bolt action single shot for $200...i'm tempted, but sight unseen i hate to do it. if i can get the winchester for the same amount as the 10/22 -- i think i'll get it, but if not i think i'll go with the 10/22. thanks for the help
