Mr. Ducky! When you asked; "how much stuff do you guys have that you lose track of it??? I only have about 50 hooks total...." Was you wanting that in whole numbers.... Lbs.?.... Boxes?.... rooms?.... What? As for hooks alone, I counted some 145 bags, boxes, envolops and packets..... Roughly guessing then.... (as the bulk of them are 100 ct.)that alone accounts for some 10,000 plus items! You'll know you're getting close to "overload" when you make at least three trips in a row into the bigger fly shops.... Feather Craft being one.... and not find anything you want! I hear that flashing a light is an old Army Trick.... when you take it as a signal, and flick yours off and on, he knows where to aim in the dark to snipe ya! You may wanna hold your light way out to one side when you signal back! FliTrap

Hey, Lost! My wife and I are looking to fish Saturday and Sunday the New years weekend! We are also from St Louis. Patti is the Mo. Coord. for Casting for Recovery! If you wanna hook up down that way, I'll keep you posted on our travel plans! Now, I have fished with, camped with and ate a few meals with Danno! What can I say.... Great guy! We keep chatting about meeting back up that way but have been missing the conection on a few trips! Then, too, Leonard is wanting me to show him how to night fish! As noted several times already, study, read and try it! A great site on the net that can help answer some of your questions (or cause new ones!) is http://www.ultimateflytying.com/ Check out the subsection titled "Articles" for how to's of casting and reading the river! A nother great way to learn is to go on down to Taney with a good chair and watch some of the others out there for a while before fishing! Watch the methods that appear to be working. Maybe ask questions as some of the others are leaving the river! Most are willing to share ideas! A most important thing to remember about waters like Taney....those fish have seen it all! Many of the trout have been caught repeatedly, each time being a learning experience for them! And the number of fly patterns that hit that water in a day or week!!!! Wow! On those clear calm days, most all trout will be laying deeper and on the bottom! They are use to seeing waders and wait for stuff kicked up by wading fishers! While longer casting can help in some cases, another approach is to pitch a short line and get that fly to the bottom and as noted before, a longer drift! I'm not talking of fishing at your feet!!!!! Don't go there!!! But I am talking of a nymphing method that you'll follow the fly as it drifts by you! Its a method that is quickly learned if you can catch someone else fishing this way and it can be an active time when it works! Another thing is to focus on a single area.... pick a type of water that is of interest to you and watch others as they work in that area! After a day on the river, look for articles that explain methods for that same type of water! Read and think back about your day! Maybe jot down some notes on a small pocket pad to cary with you! Add notes or questions that you realize while fishing and look for answers via the internet! Less wading will mean less bothering the trout in an area! Have fun! FliTrap

Better then the "shuffle talk"! Has anyone looked into the affects that smelly wading shoes have on the fish? If you pass gas in "breathable waders"....? I say.... Follow all the rules and tip a hat to the man with a badge! But most of all..... thank God we can fish at all! FliTrap

Dano! Fish them they same way we pitch any Dropper rig! A Bobber works well with the spin gear! Allow the same length of line the same way you set a dropper; that being 1 1/2 to 2 times the water depth depending on the flow rate! I like to set them to run about 2-3" off the bottom! The only real difference between a beadhead and a Micro Jig is the way it hangs in the water! The jig will normally hang hook up! FliTrap FliTrap

Yep! Amen, Silver Mallard! As far as using other gear instead of Fly Fishing, as long as you you're not snagging up my line, I don't care! But then, I've stood around some fly flippen guys and gals and had my line dredged up! And if you do get into a line, (spin gear or fly gear!!!!!) smile, say "i'm sorry', and tip your hat! Stop as soon as you realize the snag and see who can best untangle it all! Don't go halling a line all the way to you just because you can! You may wanna work a bit in the other direction on the next cast! Most of all, have fun! FliTrap

Looks like a nother risky way for water critters living in one area to end up in the waters some place else! While these little critters may be fun to rais / keep as "pets", the buyer could get tired of them and dump them in a local stream! May not be a big deal unless they have some type of germs or could take over the area! In S.E. Mo. they had that same issue come up when some crayfish were released from one area to another, and the "intruders" about wiped out a smaller, local Crayfish that are at risk anyhow! Just a thought! For those little flies, you can pre-tie up a batch with tippet while at home! Then all you have to use it a loop to loop connection on the river! Seen a few of the old "streatcher boxes" around that can be used to keep the tippets in order until you're ready to use them. they do take up space in the vest but make all the difference when the bit it on!
