Yep, I looked at the long term forecast and was thinking.....great. When you work during the week and only fish at night during the week or on weekends, all this rain is killing me. I'm not afraid of the rain by any means. But lightening I do not do and the rain just makes a mess of the yard getting boat in and out.
  2. What he said.... I had a small bass half way to the boat six times. Took me seven attempts before he was in the boat. Took me a while to learn to let them "chew on it".
  3. Only time it freaks me out is when there is a bloom. Fishing is stupid tough when it's in a bloom. I know there are active fish in an area but catching fish with a bloom has always proven tough for me. Escape the bloom, I start catching fish. Just a theory and superstition of sorts I've developed over the years.
  4. Ollie...... That was hilarious. Thank you for sharing. Good to have great memories of someone.
  5. And I heard 50 cals firing near Ft Bragg once while I was working during a site visit and traveling. Just a loud "POP POP POP POP POP POP" I thought......."Man am I glad I ain't on the receiving end of that!!!!"
  6. I've always heard that the sound of 50 cal fire and sound of air cannons much like a loud "BRRRRRRRRRRRRRR" are one of the most intimidating sounds you can hear in the distance. Not a vet myself, I think I'd almost pee my pants if I heard that stuff knowing it was coming after me. :-) I saw F22's take off in Birmingham at the same airport where I was on the tarmac about to take off. Cool stuff.
  7. Yep. I talked to a retired Air Force pilot once who flew them. He loved them. You're right, that cannon could rip a car in half in about 3 seconds. Not to mention the tank buster bombs, missiles, etc it can carry. It's a small pack mule. Takes a load and has a heck of a kick. That's bad to the bone. :-)
  8. Didn't know there was one. Not surprised. Big enough around KC area. A10's are a bad boy. Tank busters.
  9. Where is this? (What racetrack)
  10. Yep. He beat me to it. You really need to learn the unit basics and figure out what it's capable of. It's a great tool.
  11. How do you like the new graphs?
  12. Beaver Lake has this also. Seems an algae bloom is coming.
  13. Very sad to hear this. This forum is more than just a "forum" to me. It's a network of fishing buddies and fellas that I talk to frequently. A fishing family. This forum has truely lost someone. Rest in peace sir.
  14. Vibration is by far more important than seeing a bait presentation. That doesn't mean it needs rattles. Or you imparting action. The Zman bait will quiver with the slightest water displacement. I've set me rod down and watched it. It will wiggle with just current alone. Why it's so effective. Fish it. It works.
  15. Sounds like a good trip to me. And those stripers were good and fat! I'm pretty sure they were spawning females as I caught a male up shallow this weekend. Glad you enjoyed your visit!

    Wet Morning

Funny how they bite good in the rain. I've seen that first hand.
  17. Cannot thank you enough Jon on posting this information here. Very much appreciated! Now...... Got any striper facts that disprove the theory of stripers hurting bass populations & sizes?
  18. I tried Nanofil. Hated it. Could be the knot I used was not condusive to Nano. I went with 6lb Pline and I'm happy. I've learned with the Ned. Let them munch on it vs setting hook if you feel a bite. They will often short strike it once or twice. Let them taste it and sample the Charmin. :-)
  19. If I can ever get one long enough..... I sure will. :-)
  20. We need signs at the ramps. "Please don't feed the phirana" If Florida can have gators, Arkansas can have little bluegills with teeth. Lol
  21. Spider Rigging: http://www.in-fisherman.com/panfish/crappie-black-or-white/spider-rigging-for-crappie/ Pushing: http://www.crappie.com/crappie/mississippi/286306-pushing-crankbaits/
  22. Spider rigging came first. Pushing came out later. (based on what I read)
  23. For the bass anglers, who complain about the size of fish at Beaver. Read up. http://www.bassresource.com/fish_biology/skinny-fish.html
  24. Sideways drifting is called pushing (I think) so yes. It will definitely work if......you're baits are in front of you and the baits are presented first......not the boat.
  25. Probably not. Lol!!! You need a very limp rod for rigging because the target species has a soft mouth. A surf rod hookset could launch them into orbit if their mouth could take the shock and awe. Lol
