Lol! Yep. I admire a guy who takes care of his gear. Same way here. I make an outing and then spend a couple hours cleaning, wiping boat down, retying lines, etc. Might as well be a tournament angler. Lol
Yep, if he zeroed, everyone would. That Triton is a nice rig.
To piggy back on this report (get it? "Piggy" back? Lol) I agree. It's a super tough bite.
I fished from just after dark till around 1:30am with crappie minnows and only got one crappie. Had to be moving the bait to get bit. Used submersible light and had hundred of minnows under boat with me. Water was dead calm and very very little topwater strikes. Fished a spinnerbait for a few hours in the shallow and deeper water and only got one bass. And for some reason, the fish think I'm Bill Dance and want to be on TV because I'm plagued with catching catfish. I also trolled around d midnight for about a mile and marked lots of little fish and the lake is starting to turn over. Lots of junk floating up.
Lake turnover probably explains the tough bite.
It's a bit bulky. I've had the best luck with jigs in general using hair jigs. But the hair is trimmed and much shorter. 3/8oz range is my favorite. But a 1/4oz would be good too for a slower fall.
I've been using your jigs you sent me. They honestly look better than store bought and I really like them a lot. However, I seem to be on a big slump with jigs. Can't get a bite. Not your fault. It's the angler, not the jigs.
Kudos to you for taking her out and I'm REALLY glad to see a kid that is hard-core with gloves and a hat fishing on a cool morning. I know some grown men that would have stayed home because it was "too cold". Good for her for being willing to fish with Dad. It's my hope that my little one will want to do that one day.
Great photo of her smiling. Would melt a snow cone in January. :-) (warms the heart that is)
Oh give them a chance. Maybe they want the fish for observation purposes or to ensure they do not return fish that turn up dead. Recovery time. Give them the benefit of the doubt.
I was one my way under the 12 bridge (headed south) this morning when I come off plane before the gravel bar (currently out of water) by the 12 bridge. If you're familiar with the lake, you know what I'm talking about. I ALWAYS come off plane BEFORE getting near the gravel bar as it extends from Deer Island to the bank just before 12 bridge.
Here's a screenshot below that I snapped quickly showing tracks of lower units where they have drug across the gravel bar. My guess is this that these are recent and probably this year.
Look on the upper left for sidescan image of the lower unit tracks. Now look at lower right for the 2 trails where I have crossed recently. The water came up as shallow as 2FT!!!! Enough that I trimmed the motor so far up that the prop was just below the surface. Sad thing is, I didnt' really see bottm so you won't see it in time.
So......
Unless you want to entertain the people at the ramp and parking lot..........don't be "that guy" and run on plane all the way up to the bridge or.....get on plane after crossing under the bridge and heading north towards Prairie Creek.
I have an aluminum boat that floats extra shallow. This 2ft made me nervous (obviously it can cross it easy). I have had my boat in 1ft of water and float easily.
I bet that livewell is a lot less bouncy on the road than crashing over wakes.
They did this at the Classic at Grand too. It's becoming more and more common. For that matter, last year's classic at Guntersville was quite the drive too from the launch to the convention center. Possibly a bit more than an hour drive? I can't recall for sure but the point is, that's 2yrs in a row where the main stage (stage being key term) was much further away to house the event. It's a once a year event and one of two the biggest bass events of the year. Forest L Wood Cup being the other big event.
As long as "keep alive" type mixes are used, I bet they are fine. I've had live minnows last inside my bait bucket for 3 days and when they were released, they were still more than lively.
Didn't you know? It's all about the bass. They are special and superior to dolphins and other species. (J/k)
Agreed. Benefit of doubt should be given. Initial response is "why" but I bet they do their best to preserve and keep a low impact. Bass guys tend to be uber sensitive about their sport. :-)
