Directly from the Cops for Kids Rule section:
"Sportsmanship: Courtesy and safety are expected from each contestant. Life jackets and kill switches must be worn during take-off and when outboard motor is running. No alcoholic beverages will be allowed in the boats during the tournament. A contestant having a protest must submit it in writing to the Tournament Director within fifteen minutes of the closing of weigh-in."
It's in all the rules, I just picked this one because it was on my mind. I've had this discussion with lots of different folks.
Often (and unfortunately), a lot of competitors misread the first line "Courtesy and safety are expected from each contestant." - I hear "Yep, that means staying away from a competitors boat unless they say it's ok to get close, make sure we don't swamp a competitor's boat and stuff like that - I got it."
Only partially correct - NO WHERE THAT I HAVE EVER READ in any tournament rules is it stated that competitors are to be respectful, considerate, etc. only to OTHER COMPETITORS - all the rules I've read say that EACH COMPETITOR is to be respectful, considerate, etc. - period - everyone on the lake is to receive the same treatment (which should be nothing short of a gentlemen / lady).
Sadly, it seems that lots of tournament folks miss that part....
I fish tournaments, but I am NOT a "tournament guy"
Although, the Legend Jersey that Miss Sherry (my loving bride) got me is awfully slick
