  1. I was just looking through my latest edition of International Angler. MDNR has confirmed the age of the new world record, a seeforellen brown, at six years. Can you believe that? Six years. That's how quickly that strain of brown trout grows. Rip Collin's fish, a german brown, was 17 years of age. Unfortunately, Arkansas has probably seen it's last world record. Both Michigan and New York have introduced this strain of brown trout. It is estimated that they could attain weights of 60 pounds in those 2 lake systems. That's truly amazing.
  2. Fishing a stream with a snow covered bank is quite the treat. Glad you had a good trip. How big were the browns you hooked and what is the largest brown, that you know of, ever caught on the Norfork?
  3. A 12 foot rod? Holy crap Duane! You must have been standing in the parking lot. You could get enough leverage with that to move the hatchery building. No wonder you were breaking off. Come opening day, I'll look for some fish with dislocated jaws. I opted to go to bssp on sunday. The "rude crew" was there in force. After being stepped on and crowded out several times, I left. If that type of behavior continues, I am going to sell all of my fishing gear and take up professional bowling.

    Da Who!

I agree. I thought they bombed out like Martha and the Vandelas.
  5. I have the same memory loss. In addition to what you said, as I recall, production was unable to keep up with demand. They have been recieving supplemental stockings from SOH for the past few years. In order to produce their 2.5 fish per fisherman, rearing facilities need to be increased. This was told to me by the hatchery superintendent back in 04. I'm sure that demand has increased even more since then.
  6. I first heard of this project in 04. At that time, work was scheduled for 07. I wonder what created the lengthy delay? Contractor's beware! MDC will take you to the letter of the specs with no compromise. Corps of Engineers is a walk in the park compared to MDC. I have encountered first hand their ridgid guidelines and no tolerance at Lost Valley Fish Hatchery. It was a great project and I truly enjoyed the work. Just don't plan on taking any shortcuts during the bidding process. Good luck to all prospective bidders.
  7. I had the pleasure of meeting Wendell on a night trip a couple of years back. He used to fish with Doug Owens way back. Anyone ever hear how Doug is doing?
  8. Zone one regulations apply during the winter c and r season. There is a sign right above the dam, on the east side, that spells out the zone one requirements. Good luck!
  9. You cannot keep a foul hooked game fish under any circumstance. It's in the code book. This applies to all waters of the state where a fishing permit is required.
  10. It would be illegal, to take into possession, that foul hooked fish. That applies to "all" gamefish in missouri.
  11. Playing out a foul hooked small fish, to retrieve your fly, is ok provided you are not in a crowd of other fishermen. Such as a trout park. Letting that foul hooked fish invade the other fishermen's water is rude to say the least. It not only interupts their fishing, but it could also relocate any fish that may be laid up in front of them. I would also recommend that you immediately break off any lunker sized fish.
  12. They remove the cable anytime they are expecting a flood. Also they cable down the picnic tables at the covered pavilions.
  13. Well alright Buzz! You should offer your premier guide services in the future.
  14. Mustad 9671 and 72's. I liked size 12. 8's would probably work, anything that pushed some water around.
  15. It must be this crs problem I have. Of course, it's brown and palmered back. Thanks for catching that error Pete.
  16. The "russell fly" is a crackle back. Does anyone know what happened to Russell? I haven't seen him on the creek for about 3 years. Hope everything is well. Back in the 70's, a super hot wolly pattern was this, an olive body, fine chenile, a red finished head, and just a tuft of gold floss for a tail. I will bet 10 dollars that it is still red hot when used in a skipping retrieve.
  17. There's a blast from the past. Like Wayne said, a bssp original. We called it "skipping" a wooly. Ed and Kay are certainly master's of that lost art. Bill Butts and his father were also master's at skipping the woolys. I will venture to bet that they had several 100 fish days. Another bssp original were "mini jigs", remember those?
  18. Wish you could have made it Murdoc. Watching all those "night" guys trying to fish in the daylight, it was entertaining to say the least. Best of luck at RR.
  19. I enjoyed both of your video's Pete. Thanks for taking the time to put them on the board. In early November, the water that John was fishing, was a good foot and a half higher. I am glad to see it back to normal. I may have to make a week day run back to Meramec. I will be looking forward to next week's show.
  20. Nice fish and a nice video Micheal. I assume you did not use the same guide service as Matt. It was good to visit with you, Marcus, and Matt. I told you that I had ran into Jerod and Brandon also. The taneycomo night crowd regulars, showed up at bssp on the same day. How rare is that? The only ones missing were the Doty's. I didn't fair as well as you guys did, but I had a great time. I spent most of the day walking zone 3 in search of a monster brown. I didn't find him this trip, but I know he's there. Later.
  21. I would use a size 14 sowbug or scud. Doesn't matter what color as long as it is grey or tan.
  22. If it is legal in crane creek, the season doesn't open until march 15, 2010.
  23. Just got back from bennett. Went over about 9:30 this morning and the temp was 0 degrees. Mike Runyan said it had got to minus 12 overnight. Anyway the sun was out, no wind, and it warmed up quick. I walked from the dam to the whistle bridge searching for lunkers. The mist coming off the water made it really hard to see in most places, but I did mangage to find 7 that I fished to. Hooked up with 3, and was fortunate enough to land each one. Two went 3.5, and the largest one was 5.5. A great day to be out and I caught some nice fish to boot. I only saw 8 anglers on the creek today and they were all catching some nice fish. Hopefully Flatcat and Cricket will give their reports later.
  24. Good luck to you! I was there on Monday this week. The creek was up some and a little milky colored. Lots of fish in the creek, you should do well. Tommorrow is going to be in the 20's and sunshine.
  25. You guys are hard core now. I can take the cold day fishing, but not the overnight camp out. That is a great river brown. I can see that you all had a great trip. Thanks for the pictures.
