  1. They swam upstream and turned left.
  2. In 03 maybe 04, some college boys from springfield fished it at night on taney. That was the first time I can remember seeing it. They tied a black on black and caught alot of fish. Every time I ran into them, they would give me one or two. Centerpunch fished another version of it about a year later.
  3. In the late 70's there was one gas station that stayed open untill 11pm. It was at the east corner of 76 and 165. The remainder of the town was closed up by that time. From 65 hwy, across 76, it was 5 minutes to the dam. Now you can't even make the first traffic light in 5 minutes.
  4. And does Leonard chase those jigs into the shallows?
  5. The branson police do patrol the area, and everyone who night fishes is pleased they do. We always thank them when they stop to visit. I have napped in my vehicle for the past 34 years. Stay in the main parking area and you won't have any problems with vandals or partiers. If the police check you out, they will run your plates and maybe ask to see your operators permit. Thank them for keeping tabs on the area and say you are catching a short nap and returning to fishing soon. I have never been asked to leave.
  6. Come on down Browieman. On december 28, 1977 I caught my very first taneycomo lunker using the method you are describing. My lure wasn't as heavy as you describe, but the same method. The fish weighed in at 8lb 6oz and is the only lunker that I have caught using spinning gear. All others have been on fly rod. Come on down and give her a try.
  7. It is a "seeforellen" brown trout. They are adapted for large and deep lakes like lake michigan. They are longer lived and grow considerably larger than german or sheepcreek browns. A 54 pounder came out of a scandinavian lake not so long ago, but the angler failed to meet IGFA standards for an all tackle world record. IMO the sheep creek brown is the most colorful and best proportioned fish.

    Tan Vat

Like Brownieman, I also was on the current on the 23rd. Water was in perfect shape to catch a big fish off guard. The water was just high enough to keep me from wading down to heartbreak like I had planned. I fished above tan vat and the lower park area. Even at that there were several hot spots that I could not access. Caught several nice fish on sculpins. Finished up the day in the c and r area. I hooked 3 book fish and was lucky enough to land 2. When I was in the lower park, I noticed that the campground was extremely full for a friday. I guess with it being the last full weekend coming up. Later on I noticed that the tag sales was over 300 for the day. The river level needs to drop another foot to make it more accessible for the wading fisherman.
  10. Sorry to get off topic. IF the browns don't return by this weekend, you can consider this year a washout like last year. By the second week in november, on a normal year, the browns are done. Rainbows should be abundant through march. Maybe I should clarify that statement. If you are a wade fisherman on the upper end, then this is the correct info. If you are a boat fisherman, you should find browns all year. Best bet for a large brown would be michigan or wisconsin.
  11. I have this habit of naming places according to events and happenings of the past. Heartbreak is the fast water chute about one quarter mile below baptist. It is a long run leading into the bluff hole. I have hooked and mostly lost some really nice fish in that area over the years. It is full of boulders and pocket water. The browns like the pocket water as you well know. It fishes best right now when the browns are on the move. I use a flip and dip method because casting is virtually impossible with the overhanging trees. There are so many pockets that you dare not pass one up. I use a heavy weighted sculpin to dip the pockets. It works for me. how much rain today?
  12. Going to be in the heartbreak area. That outlet at the sewage lagoon does not have a big enough crowd for me.
  13. Well you have done it now! Your assumption of an outlet fisherman is all wrong. You can not, and will not, offend or hurt the feelings of an outlet fisherman. They enjoy conditions like opening day. There is an art to timing your cast and then getting tangled up with a fish on. If you can land that fish with six other lines attached, you have mastered the art. I will be down in your neck of the woods tomorrow. Looking forward to it.
  14. Hey Murdoc. I did not recognize you in the picture with your sunglasses on.
  15. We should change the name "out" let to "gaunt" let.
  16. Outdoor review gave it a 5 on 5 rating. It was also one of the rods used to test Rio's Windcutter fly line.
  17. Why not throw 2 dollars in a pot for longest fish and put one dollar in for total stringer length.
  18. If o2 levels are higher coming out of the hatchery, the bows will be stacked like the after thanksgiving day sale. They will be lethargic and slow moving. Best to get rid of those multiple fly rigs or you will be ripping and tearing flesh all day. But hey, they are not wild fish, so who cares.
  19. Congrats Steve, a great catch!
  20. From the "lack of" fishing reports, you have two possible answers. One, it is so good that the locals are afraid to tell anyone. Or two, it is so p poor that they are afraid to tell anyone. Water temps are still 60 degrees below the dam. The crappie, assorted basses, and walleye will be on the search for spawning grounds. Gar, catfish, blue herons, and river otters will be looking for the feast.
  21. Thank you Phil.
  22. Well what is the latest update on this 30 point buck. Did it go up the ladder or head back to hollister? I know Brian is there every day, give us an update.
