  1. Thank you FC. It is not so big for other lakes, but good for loz.
  2. Thanks, my dock is at the 5 mile marker of the big niangua, owens point. I caught this fish at 8:30 am but most have been coming in the afternoon. We are fishing 16 to 22 foot brush and just skimming the tops. When the wind blows, the black crappie have been suspended at about 10 feet. I think the water temp was 43 today. Fishing was very slow yesterday and today. I got one last year, on the same dock, that went 2lb 5oz. Crappie that size are too big for my taste, so I always put them back for seed.
  3. Looks like another great winter float with better than normal weather conditions. Some nice fish caught and unfortunately a very large fish lost. How big was he coldwater? Thanks for the report and the photos.
  4. People used to camp on the river bank below where those cows grazed. On nights with a east wind, you could hear those cows chewing grass as far up as the big hole. The good old days, when rainbows were huge and crowds were non existent.
  5. Yeah there is smallmouth at bssp, but you will be hard pressed to catch any. Seems as if a certain forum member has made a career out of giving them all soremouth. WElcome to the forum and keep us posted on those fishing trips.
  6. You see it alot at the trout parks, I would suspect they get injured in the raceways.
  7. Well, things have not improved much this week. I have only caught 11 off the dock in the past three days. On the plus side, this morning I caught a 2lb 10oz black crappie. That is a personal best for me. I think I will trout fish the remainder of the week, trout are a lot less likely to be tight lipped like these winter time crappie.
  8. Makes me want to take up hunting again, great pictures of a great hunt. Hey there doty, her new home wouldn't be around battlefield would it?
  9. Glad to see River on the mend. FishinCricket had informed of the mishap a while back.
  10. Have not fished this week, but the past week was rather slow. I only fish from one dock, so it may not be a true indicator of how things are. Fish were deep and slow during those windy days. In a boat with several options, you should do ok.
  11. Go right ahead, i once saw a canoe in zone 2.
  12. FW said that they were already half full.
  13. Thanks CCA. I did receive word back from my friend that he talked to another angler who did fish it while the limit was lifted. Caught several nice walleye.
  14. Good call FW. They were thick in the air about 2 sundays ago. I would have never guessed they were mayfly's untill one lit on my hand.
  15. I would venture to say that you had the "first" lunker of 2012. I'm envious of that bubby. Good catch.
  16. I was told once, by a guide on the white, that rising water traveled 6 miles per hour. Don't know if that is correct or not, but it would work for what you just described on powersite.
  17. I would agree with Phil. Over the years I have noticed that murky water seems to affect the fishing more than anything. And I am sure that it affects the fishermen more so than the trout. I have caught trout in sub freezing to scorching hot, rain, snow, sunshine, dead calm to blistering winds. Murky water, not so much. Get out there and catch some trout.
  18. I have pretty much been doing the same, only I am not fishing by boat. I have about 22 feet off the back of the dock. Catching fish anywhere from the bottom to about 4 feet suspended. Went this am and caught 8 in about an hour. Getting ready to head back down and see if I can finish out my limit.
  19. maybe you are just getting better at finding and fooling trout. good report otc, glad you had a good day. where exactly is the red section?
  20. In my upcoming book, I talk some about camoflage. I have always held to the theory that you should match your background as if the fish are looking through you. In addition to moving slowly and making as little commotion as possible, you need to blend in. Take a few minutes on your next outing, and watch a blue heron walking the shoreline. Same holds true when fishing at night. Match your background.
  21. Well, I see that I am in good company.
  22. thx for the photo bill, just can't recall seeing the black feet and bill.
  23. Do you suppose we will not get the official where and where not till then?
  24. Does anyone know if the new 2012 reg changes are out on the street yet? And if so, does it go into detail about the ban? It is getting late into the game, I would think they need to get something officially in black and white for the public to read.
  25. Body appeared to be big, but the like you say, wingspan may have made it look bigger. We had the pelicans up to this previous week here at owens point. Tried the crappie again this morning with little successs. The lake appears to almost full with lots of shoreline debris floating.
