  1. While crappie fishing at loz today, I observed 4 artic loons. I usually don't see them until next month. Not many geese flying over today as in the past 2 days. They may already be at TR, DD. Good luck on your hunt.
  2. Buy her a brand new rod and some lures for christmas, and give it to her after you fish with it.
  3. Take your gear, the water is scheduled to be off today and tomorrow.
  4. Are you talking about the fish eating good, or you eating the fish? lol
  5. Hi Buzz. I once witnessed bssp dumping fish off the hwy 64 bridge during a scheduled river stocking. Myself and coach Scott were fishing below the bridge and caught several fish on consecutive casts as soon as they hit the river. The fall didn't hurt them one bit, they hit the water dumb and hungry.
  6. Good for her, you can run that dang camera. I was on the crappie dock this afternoon and I witnessed what Chief is describing. One bunch of geese after another were headed to TR.
  7. Good photo Chief. Appears to be about the same size as the recent c and r stockings at bennett and meramec.
  8. Hi Drew. Give that fish about one month to take on some stream colors, and you will swear that he was river bred and river born.
  9. Indeed, some things are better kept a mystery and something for us to speculate on.
  10. WOW! A great current river rainbow. I think I recognize that place in the creek. Congrats.
  11. Hi Chief. Back in the early 80's, I have had some of the locals tell me about recent stockings at the city park. And I think it was FW who said someone told him of a 1984 stocking. Who knows? And I don't suppose it really matters that much. It is pretty obvious that they are reproducing in better than "average" numbers.
  12. I am not sure why igfa would reinstate this fish after Harper admitted to adding weight. That was the reason it was disqualified after several years. His own admission before his death. Are they claiming that he was mentally incompetent at the time of the confession? Igfa is pretty hard core, I am surprised at their reversal.
  13. Does it not count unless they are hard to see?
  14. Some good info that you are providing. I enjoy fishing the spring river as well, just need to make myself go more often. I have found and fished for some nice rainbows like in your video. A few years back, Kdan and I were walking a high bank looking for a good fish. We spot this average rainbow cruising up the weed bed. As we were watching, he darts into the moss and comes out with a rather large crawdad turned sideways in his mouth. He looked like a miniture hammerhead shark as he swam off. This was the 2nd time that I had witnessed this happen. Which side of the river is the fly shop on?
  15. Some great fish guys, really enjoyed the video.
  16. From what I recall, that record was determined to be false, and the existing record of 21 lbs came from greers ferry. Unless a 25 lb fish has been caught recently, that's what I recall.
  17. If you are talking about loz, it is the one that FW mentioned, Trout Dale, near gravios mills.
  18. Thanks Mitch, a happy thanksgiving to you, and all of the oaf members and their families.
  19. Hi FW. The spring was a privately owned stream when I was a kid. It was named "Trout Glenn". It had a nice resturant and some lodging facilities. It was pretty much for the rich and famous back then. Our local bankers, back then, were pictured in the local paper with some very nice rainbows on numerous occasions. The owner died and the property was inherited by the daughter. I think the state purchased it from her several years later. In the early 80's we caught brown trout in the spring branch, plus where it dumped into loz. Mike Parker caught a 6 lb brown during that time period. It was the largest brown I know of. In the early 60's, several 2 digit rainbows were caught. I do not know if any trout still exist in the spring branch.
  20. She allowed myself and Jim McGowin to visit her trout raising facility. She had everything you needed, just on a smaller scale. A very friendly lady and quite knowledgable. Never even considered asking her permission to fish.
  21. This is all a very interesting thread. Thanks to all who have contributed little bits and pieces to some of missouri's trout fishing history. Does anyone recall the lady who raised trout, and lived above wire road?
  22. Can't recall that I actually witness the dumping of fish, just recall the truck below the drive over bridge at least once. I think they call that the city park.
  23. I will say this at the risk of being forever banned from this forum for life. I would almost bet money, that I have seen hatchery trucks, at least once, in the early 80's. Now, MDC's claim that they have not stocked it in several years, is probably likely. However, these could have easily been federal trucks from neosho. Anyone of you SW guys have any contact with the hatchery people there?
  24. By doing the math on what I was told, 92 or 93 would have been the year they started.
  25. A nice fish as well. I was told by the hatchery personel, that they started a rotating fin clipping a few years back. Do you recall seeing any clipped fins and where? You could contact soh for an age.
