8Wt Or 9 Wt For Racine, Wi...suggestions?

I would recommend a few weeks at the gym before casting a 10 foot or longer rod all day. Otherwise you will be wore down before 10 oclock. -
Catch And Releaser's Should Stop At Their Limit?
laker67 replied to FishinCricket's topic in General Angling Discussion
I fully intended to hurt, maime, and mutilate some fish tonight. 4 before midnight, and then another 4 after. -
I could count on one hand, the number of times I have used a SJ worm. Never liked the feel of it in the water. After reading TIm's post, I may have to start getting used to it. Those are some heavy duty fish Tim.

Well thanks for the report Pete. Glad you guys caught some fish. The best is yet to come, so don't hang up that rod anytime soon. If we can keep the hurricanes out of the gulf, maybe we will have a fall without flood gates. Arkansas and missouri are both on track for a good year. I suspect that arkansas is where you will be.

Catch And Releaser's Should Stop At Their Limit?

we are still waiting for that report Pete. Be sure to include how many fish over the limit were maimed, mutilated, and executed. And are any of those fish the wiser for it? -
Catch And Releaser's Should Stop At Their Limit?
laker67 replied to FishinCricket's topic in General Angling Discussion
Let's see if I understand this correctly. Kill a limit of trout and go home, or release a limit of trout and go home. I just don't understand the math in that equation. I drive 2 hours to branson, I catch and release 4 fish and drive another 2 hours home. Of course I suppose I could get a motel, spend the night, then catch and release 4 more fish the following day before making the trip home. If some are thinking that catch and release is killing a bunch of fish, then they are doing something terribly wrong in between the hookup and the release part. If they say that catch and release is super educating the trout population, then perhaps it is time for them to attend class or take up ping pong for recreation. I can tell you for a fact that there are enough dumb trout out there to last a lifetime. Catch and release fishermen help populate a stream. Take a walk through zone 3 at bssp and count fish in the water. Go to zone 1 or 2 and do the same thing. I would venture to say that you could stand on the stone bridge and count more fish than you saw in the entire stretch of the bait water. Not many catch and release fishermen in zone 3. So my vote goes for, just do what you want to do, and stay the heck out of my "day off" on the water. Good fishing to everyone. -
Troutringer, if you are ever in the market to replace that rod, Murdoc is the man to talk to. Hi Murdoc. Where the heck you been?
-
Got no evidence, so you just have to take my word for it. Caught one in january, near the whistle bridge, that was between 12 and 13 pounds. Big female brown with no "hard water" marks. Had a 7 to 8 pound male spotted, but no hookups.

According to Jack Bushacker, who attended the discussion on the regulation changes, Jim R was a leading proponent pushing for the reg changes. His influence as concessionaire may have had some bearing on the outcome. We are not sure why he pushed so hard for the changes. We can only speculate that some of his zone 3 buddies were behind the push and original proposal.

Sorry Chief, I completely overlooked this thread until now. Tell Dylan that is definately a fish to be proud of. Congrats to him and his coach of many years.

That was always a mystery to me as well. Years ago, we just waited until they moved into zone 3 during july and august. Where they came from, I have no idea, they just started appearing as the river water warmed up. We could use doctored flies back then, now we can't, so I haven't fished for them since the reg changes. Many a large brown started showing up in zone 3 during the late 80's. Many large browns were caught and released by fly fishermen. Not so much by the bait guys. I know they are still there, but I have no desire to fish for them with anything other than flies, which of course are illegal now thanks to Jim Rodgers.

I mean no disrespect Wayne, but in my estimation, this is merely one of those "old wives tale" that has been handed down for years. It is what you do or attempt to do after the fish is landed, that stresses and kills them. Too many pics, too many flops on the gravel, and too much handling. Using 7x, I have caught and released hundreds of lunkers with little or no consequence.
-
You are exactly right Dave. You definately can't fish streamers on 7x unless you are willing to donate several. Fly size has got to match up with tippet. And like you said, practice is important. Knowing the limits to what your tippet can handle is very important on big fish. Catching big fish on 7x is like just being along for the ride. It is fun and challenging and I really enjoy that. I look forward to seeing you on the creek Dave.

Mums the word Pete. I have done terrible the past four trips and I would expect you will strike out as well.

I was at the eagle stop on elm. But hey, I'm about half blind anyway. I even have to use the brail keyboard on the drive thru ATM.
-
I will guarantee you that it is very fine print.

Today, I bought gas at one of the stations in question. Price was 3.11 at the pump, but the advertised price was 2.91 on the overhead sign. When I asked about the advertised price, I was told that you had to purchase a 12 dollar car wash to get it at 2.91. My question to a lawyer, is that misleading advertisement?

When the water is "off", the people at the dam are fishing and disconnect the phone. They do not want anyone else crowding them out.

Never been in a boat, so I couldn't tell you yeah or nay on that. Leonard and I were refering to the wading angler at t-como. Kyle had some good advice as well. Every one is mis reading my post. I said "7x" not 5. water off, 7x, water on, 6x, maybe even 5x on heavy generation. In a boat, I would think you could use 7x all day long. I have landed several fish in the 10 to 15 pound range with 7x.
-
When you asked the original question, you used the word "target". By this I am guessing you are refering to sight fishing. Daytime is a whole different ball game that requires different approaches. Little things like the color of your clothes, where you stand in relationship to the sun and the fish, even your arm movements when you cast. T=como browns are no push over, they are wary and always on guard. Blend in, keep your movements to a minimum, and don't cast your shadow over the fish you are after. As far as the tippet, 7x to 6x will hook you up to a lot more fish. I prefer clear in color and flouracarbon. We could get into presentation but I won't. Just remember not to crowd or pressure the fish. Hope you do well and we expect a report.

good fish leonard. It was good to see u again on friday night.
-
not all parts of the river hold fish in low water. Make sure fish are present or it matters not what u throw.

I'm with you vanven. I have had the hair on my neck stand several times over the past 36 years of night fishing at taney. Like you, I fish alone and have had many a lone week night at taney. You almost welcome a set of headlights shining across the river. One of those foggy nights at rebar, four deer crossed the creek just above me. Not knowing what was making all the commotion, I would have ran if there had been anywhere to go. They were right beside me before I could see that they were deer. Another foggy night, way back in the 70's, I was walking up to what I thought was another angler in a light colored vest. Turned out to be one of the first herons that I had encountered at night. It's worse than stepping in the middle of a covey of quail. I fished one night, right after the bear sighting at the overlook. I wore out a completely good flashlight that night. I was actually too nervous to enjoy fishing. That same bear was trapped near ozark a week later. I am positive that bears, cougars, and bigfoot roam the banks of taney at night. Throw in the occasional escaped wolf and tiger from predator world and that pretty much describes a night time fishing trip to taney.
-
Night time also includes beavers, muskrats, snakes, and the occassional bigfoot. Actually we are not quite sure if it's really bigfoot or just leonard roaming the banks and splashing in the water.

Welcome Mike. Last I knew, you were in texas. I assume you are back at the store once again. Regarding the 15 pound rainbow in your avatar, I was at taney that nite/evening that you landed that fish. It remains one of the larger rainbows from taney. Good to hear from you again Rick Osborn camdenton
