  1. Welcome back FC
  2. I have only saw 5 live ones in my lifetime. And two of those were in heavily populated areas, one in the city of springfield and the other in the city of fort wayne.
  3. I googled the archives FW, and 1976 is correct. Not sure if was on the 11th or the 18th. the other parks were added around 1980. If I could find my earliest log book I could tell exactly because i caught a lunker that day. It was at the big rock across from the gauge tower. We were only allowed to fish zone 1 for the first couple of years.
  4. If memory serves me well, it was december 11, 1976
  5. They just can't help trying to rush nature
  6. Foghorn might be on to something no one thought about I don't have a current book of records, but in 2008 the fly rod #2 lb record was 12lb 8oz. Was he using a fly rod ? Did he have help landing the fish? And was he using a dropper fly? The last two of these could disqualify.
  7. I have found that it is best to fish the area in a counter clockwise direction. That way they are swimming toward your bait and not away from it.
  8. The highly anticipated arrival of the "Urban stain" of rainbow trout is near. Their northern migration could start any day now. This strain of missouri rainbow is a mix of McCloud river rainbow, one part, two part Arlee strain, and one and one third part of California Red Band trout. They are reared in a round stock tank, manufactured by Tarter USA. This allows them to learn how to swim in circles at a young age. They grow quick, but life expectancy is short.
  9. Kdan and I were night fishing the norfork tailwater several years back. That place has got to be the darkest 4 mile section of creek in the world. So dark in fact that in one area we were using lighted indicators and they would almost blind you from the glare. Any way we had relocated to the goats bluff area, and as we walked over the bank something large, and heavy, and glad it was going the other way, ran up the gravel bar and crossed the creek to the far bank. What ever it was, we have no idea. We didnt look for tracks, or try to shine the light. That pretty much ended our fishing for the night. So, if you want to meet up with a bear Chillbilly, I would recommend that it be during the daylight. Just saying.
  10. Wow! Great looking fish.
  11. I know what you mean. We were there last november 3, 4, and 5. Water was not ideal then.
  12. It has to get better Pete, it surely won't get any worse. We had to go to Gene;s to buy a tag because the y store no longer sells them. The water was running all day, so hopefully they will get the lake cleaned out by your trip.
  13. Thanks for the invite. I will try to watch for you in the future. Crowds have been on the rise in the past 2 weeks. I think it might be less crowded at the trout parks. Corky and I were at the Norfork the day prior to this. Motels were empty, fly shops were closing early, and the Norfork smelled like a sewer and had a brown color. Corky outfished me 3.5 to 1. He had three and one half fish and I had one for a hard days fishing. I am looking forward to November and already have reservations for Mckay lake in Jeff city.
  14. You should have honked. I was on the upper end from about 10:00 to 2:00. You are right about the color and right about the browns on the north bank. They are as tuff as I have ever seen to fool. Fished four hours to fool 4.
  15. He is the unknown fly fisher from parts unknown. I don't recognize him but I recognize that fish.
  16. A tremendous brown. Congrats to you Dylan, I know you work hard at it and earned this fish.
  17. Fished today. Crowds were better and fishing was better. Weather was great. Looking forward to the remainder of the regular season.
  18. Kind of confusing for an old guy too. I waded two miles downstream looking for number five.
  19. Thanks for the report sio3. thought about going tomorrow but i am glad i read this report first. like you say, typical for this time of year. i think i will go to bssp instead. take care.
  20. Yes I agree that it is much better overall than from the past administration of hatchery manager. For years I just drove on by bennett and went to taney or other trout parks. Now my wife and I actually enjoy fishing bssp once again. In summer and especially winter we fish it twice a week, and sometimes I sneak an extra trip in on my own.
  21. I actually fished it last Wednesday but didn't report because of small fish and a exceptionally large crowd. Fish were tuff and hard to come by in zone 2 mainly due to the large wader hatch. It should settle down after this holiday.
  22. When you figure out how to predict the run schedule, pick out 6 numbers between 1 and 69 and let me know what they are.
  23. Fished again today with about the same results as yesterday. Park was a little more crowded. The rain we had last night and this morning did not affect the creek to any degree that I could tell. Caught one fish maybe 3.25 to 3.50. Nice healthy rainbow with lots of fight. He made one full body jump and several short runs. The eclipse flies would not work today. Had to use regular tan and gray on a 16. Talked with some veterans from project healing waters. Great day to be on the water again.
  24. Fished before, during and after the eclipse today. Fish were super active before and during but slowed somewhat after. Caught maybe 30. Best fly prior was an eclipse tan. During the eclipse I changed to an eclipse gray. Park had a light crowd. Great day to be watching the water instead of the sky.
  25. I have already made my reservations for the creek
