  1. Sandy and I fished last monday and things are a little slow in shallow water. Saw some good fish being caught deep and slow. It will not matter to your Dad how great or how bad fishing is. The fact that you are taking him will make it the best fishing trip ever.
  2. A trophy is in the eyes of the beholder. A lunker is 3lb or larger.
  3. Long time friend, all around great guy, and one of the best of the best, lake taneycomo trout fisherman Darrell Lundberg, passed away a few days back. A stream side gathering in his honor will be held at the pavilion below the dam. It is open to all who had made his acquaintance and probably received a hearty welcome. i will post details when they become available. He will be missed by many. A fine ambassador to our great sport of trout fishing.
  4. I might have hooked and lost him as he passed thru taneycomo. Did he have a grey scud in his mouth?
  5. Kdan and I witnessed a brown of about 7lbs catch a 7 to 8 inch brown and swallow it head first. A short time later it caught a rainbow that was good size, maybe 13 to 14, but was unable to swallow it. What was most amazing to me was how he captured and killed them. It was a male brown and he would grab the fish sideways across the gill plates, let the smaller fish suffocate, turn him headfirst and start swallowing similar to how a snake does. We had a ringside seat in the c and r area.
  6. Fished a week ago monday and again today. Not much change in water level and clarity. Too high and too murky for my comfort zone. As said earlier, fish are deep and a little on the tuff side. At least for me anyway. Spin rodders seemed to be doing ok with flashy stuff. Good luck if you go.
  7. Current lake level at 661.3. NRO campground reporting water is falling.
  8. Thank you Bill for that bit of history about how it got it's start. I recall you and your parents well.
  9. Just completed 41 consecutive winter [c & r] seasons. Most years I fish at all 4 areas, this year I only fished bennett. I know of at least one other member who has fished all 41 so lets hear from the others. Also there are most likely some who just fished their first one. My thanks to MDC for these winter seasons.
  10. I plan to catch up with " Foghorn " and his, tag along crew of misfits, at rrsp on the opener. I hear the new governor will fire his AR15 to start the new season.
  11. Fished zone 2 and 3 the past two mondays. Fishing was ok when you could escape the crowd. I fished scuds in both zones. Color didn't matter as long as it was tan in one shade or another. Light tan, dark tan, kinda tan, near nuff tan by dave whichlock. I may go this friday if they generate at taneycomo. Good luck to you.
  12. My family and I will have you in our prayers. God bless you and your family.
  13. My mistake thought you were talkng about roaring. good luck at crane
  14. I've always had good luck in the pond above the upper parking lot.

About them fish otters. With all of the trappers converging to the stream at bennett, you might want to be careful where you step while wading. Just saying.

Hate to hear that mitch, any raceway would be like fish in barrel.

They can and they will. They could very easily be getting fish from the raceways.

Talked to Brandon at the hatchery office and they are aware and have a trapper working on the problem. In the meanwhile, Pete, feel free to lend a hand.

Made a trip to bennett yesterday in search of my first trout for the new year. Caught some browns, rainbows, goggle eye, smallmouth, and one creek chub. As i was fishing near the dam and bridge hole I found " few " fish and an alarming presence of river otters. The handicap pier on the hwy side is littered with otter poop. I did not walk over to the other side, but I am guessing the same. The hatchery people are most likey aware, but I think I will give them a call today. The creek is low and clear and could use a heavy dose of urban lunkers.
  20. Some great looking fish. Both appear to be in good shape. My last fish was a crappie from loz. My wife and I took advantage of the nice weather to fish the last day of the 2016 crappie season.
  21. They built it so they could remove the built up gravel from area above the dam. They will start backtracking, removing the gravel as they go. They are loading into trucks and hauling it out. Looks like they are digging down to the old wooden dam structure, and part of that has been removed or relocated.
  22. Nice report Phil. And especially your comment, "nothing more disgraceful than showing off an illegally caught fish". Some ears might be on fire.
  23. Going back to the picture of the possible triploid, the tail looks larger than normal for that size of fish.
  24. A great fish Russ. Sure like those scarlet colors.
  25. I wish they would discontinue the dredging. From the first time they did it back in the eighties, I think, it has ruined the creek. Especially the upper end. Let nature take care of the creek. That worked good for a lot of years prior to dredging.
