It does not matter the time of year. Taney is a "adjust to the conditions" kind of fishing. That is what makes it a unique fishing opportunity. On any given day you may have changing water conditions to adapt to. It is not like going to the trout park and always fishing "Pete's Blue Pipe Hole". You know what to expect there. Big fish, and several quality fish can be caught at taney on any given day of the year, under any water condition. Go with the flow and good luck.

We have huge migratory flocks that pass through LOZ every year. But most will spend the summer at bssp.

This is what I like to hear OTF. A nice relaxing day on the creek with fish brought to hand. Glad you had a good trip. Those browns are cover orientated for sure. That's where they hide, and that's where they go when they are threatened or hooked. I bet you are already planning your next trip.

Blue/white and red/white always catch fish for us. I caught one this morning that still had my jig in his mouth from yesterday. I hooked him, he went around a limb, he see sawed me back and forth a few times and then the line broke. Three inches of my line and the jig were still attached to him. That's a first for me.

In the mid to late 90's, I watched the same four guys from springfield hold court on catching big browns, after dark, on big jerkbaits. They would do it trip after trip. Made me want to trade the longrod for the spin rod. Then they just quit fishing, I haven't seen any of them in 10 years. I guess they just got bored. They would catch 6,7, and 8 pound fish almost every trip in the fall. That's good fish now, but it was "great" fish back then. Actually, they were not called jerkbaits back then, they were rapalas and rogues.

Good luck to you this weekend. Not sure of the water temps. With the warm sun and the wind, it is pushing the surface water into the banks. Those fish we found yesterday, were still on the bank this morning. More wind and sun today, it should continue to improve.

In the past two to three days, Kdan and I have been catching male crappie that are starting to change into their dark spawning colors. Today we caught crappie on spawn brush in 2 feet of water. This is the start of the 2011 spawn. Lots of fish still in 10 to 12 feet of water, but a few making their way to the banks. Visibility is still less than 2 feet, so this makes for ideal conditions.

They were called salmon, "jack salmon".

My thoughts exactly Gavin. Years back, when we could still fish flies in zone 3 at bssp, I watched a guy using the real thing. He was fishing them on the bottom just like powerbait and catching fish.

Thanks for that info OB. I kind of hate to hear it though, those bonnevilles are dang old midgets. People will tire of catching them cast after cast. They will be like the federally trout at branson.

5 to 10 years ago, Kdan and I caught several cutts between 3.5 and 5.5. All were caught on the Norfork. Someone told me that they were snakeriver cutts. They were a jumping machine. Sometimes they would jump 5 times in a row, you could bet on at least 2 jumps. A good fighting fish.

The crappie continued to be on the slow side again today. Got to the crappie dock about 12:30 and Kdan was already there and catching my fish. We had a friendly wager on who would get their limit first. Of course I was 8 fish behind starting out, but I made up ground in a hurry. The wager was for a limit, and we both fell short. He had 14 and I had 13. He continues to catch some nice blue cats. Today he had a 17 and a 26 pounder. They are full of eggs and ready to spawn. Both fish were released unharmed. Kdan is supposed to post up some photos later.

During this past week, AUE, has dropped the bottom out of our lake. Level tonight is right at 654. The crappie continue to do ok, but you can't catch a limit in 40 casts like you could 2 weeks ago when the water was still up at 657. Kdan and I continue to catch, clean, and give away crappie on a daily basis. It just takes longer to come up with a limit. You sure have alot of friends as long as the crappie are biting. In addition to crappie, Kdan is starting to catch some blue cats. They are pretty slow, but some nice fish. The one he had yesterday was the largest so far this year. Close to 25 pounds. In the past three years, he has caught several, 18 to 52 pounds, on rod and reel, right off the crappie dock. I usually don't do the catfish thing because it's to dang hard for me to cast that big glob of bait on my 5 weight.

The foam, that fozzype was referring to, was occuring on LOZ sunday. With a strong north wind, it was piling up on the southern shorelines. I see it occassionly, when generation starts on the norfork. It will stack up around Cook Island until the higher water pushes it out.
