  1. You are exactly right cricket. This "is" the thread to talk about what is happening or occurring at bssp. Those other creeks are not in the watershed. I would definately include fishing the river in this thread, so give us a river report.
  2. Good fish FW. The brown looks familar but not the rainbow. I'm glad to see you fishing bennett again.
  3. Fished bssp today. If you are looking to catch 50, 100, or 5000 eight to twelve inch fish, then bennett is the place to be. If you are looking for lunkers, go somewhere else. I walked most of the creek bank and hooked up with the only three lunkers that were to be found. Landed two nice browns and lost the third. FW reported on the blue tube at the high bank hole. Well now there are four tubes. One twelve inch, one ten inch, and two sixes. The ditch is now backfilled, so I would say they are done. The hatchery building is roofed up and the siding is ready to be installed. Two new racesways are poured out and appear to be dumping into the existing hatchery outlet. It was busy for a monday, 17 anglers were lined up at the blue tubes waiting for the water and the trout food to be released.
  4. Take 2 rods the same weight, same tip action, but different lengths. The shorter rod will always have the quicker and most consistant hookup. I prefer an 8 foot rod, with a fast tip, for all of missouri's trout water. I can only base this theory on experience and not scientific knowledge.
  5. Good topic, brings back memories as well. I watched Virgil and Harold Ensley as a kid. I have an uncle, who was in the sporting goods business, that fished and quail hunted with Harold and his son. Do any of you old time bennett fishermen remember when Virgil hosted a trout derby, at bennett, in october of 75?
  6. You definately picked the better day of the 3. Sounds like the urban program is successful in the fact that it gives you somewhere to go for a short afternoon of fishing. I would say that it is also successful in the fact that those small fish are probably "pond born". Glad you got out and got into some fish.
  7. Enjoyed the report and the pics. That brown looks as if it could have come taney. That golden yellow is a taney trademark.
  8. If you have ever fished for a "trout park" lunker that has been walked on, stomped on, and snagged on throughout the summer, then you know that Wayne's statement is right on the money. You won't find a more challenging fish to hook up with. Most times they will send you home talking to yourself.
  9. I would imagine that it will end up looking like the lower raceways structure at montauk. A huge chunk of concrete, with a blow your socks off stream of water.
  10. You have said it all in this one statement. Bennett was rewarding and challenging all in the same day. It taught me how to fish.
  11. Kingfisher flat lays just downstream of the highbank hole, before the bend at the rock hole[bluff hole] and state record rock. Before the floods, a kingfisher always perched in the tree by the drainage ditch on the east side.
  12. It lays between the bridge shoal and kingfisher flat. It's the stretch of water with the pilings, and now,the giant blue tube.
  13. So sad. I've heard that buzzards are attracted to the color blue.
  14. I wish I had a fishing job. Are you hiring? Glad you had a good trip Terry.
  15. It's been downhill since the weather on thursday. Today was the toughest day by far.
  16. Way to go Buzz. You guys certainly had a great day. Thanks for the report and the pics.
  17. Missed you at the crappie dock Kdan. That black crappie, that I called you about, was 14.5 x 10.25 . Using the formula, it weighed a fraction over 2lbs 5oz. It's been a while since I've caught one that size. Sandy took a couple of pics and I put him back for seed. I'll attempt to post a pic later.
  18. Me too, I'll be there in 30 minutes.
  19. So what gave you the impression they were going about a second spawn?
  20. They are generating power for the christmas lights on ten mile drive or whatever the name of it is.
  21. I want to know more about this "15x" tippet material. If 8x is 1lb, this would have to be like a spider web. Did you mean 15 feet?
  22. You need to tell that to them pro bass guys. They do it on national tv and get paid for it.
  23. You saw eggs that are developing for the up coming spawn this spring. All fish carry the developing egg sacks from one season to the next.
  24. The middle part used to run underground to just above the tressel bridge. With all of the floods in the recent past, I didn't know if it still did that. There used to be a large hole of water about 100 yds above the tressel that it flowed out of.
