  1. I hope the people on this forum really react to this one, even the Taney guys. More input the better... even if you don't fish the riverways.
  2. Maribou jig is a single hook fly, whether it's on a fly or spinning rod. Think you're O.K.
  3. Maybe we are doing something wrong, but all I can say is that in the last 5 to 10 years I've had (for the most part) some great fishing on the other rivers and creeks I frequent. Quality fish too... using the same methods I used on the Piney. I was wrong in saying I wouldn't go back until I heard a good report, because I will. I love the ruggedness of the area, the bluffs and so on. Here's hoping I've just happened to be hittin' it during some slow periods or something... Good luck to ya!
  4. I agree with the Bucksaw report. Fertile water up that way and I've always caught bigger fish compared to the clearer water down Osage Bluff way. I would guess they're starting to scatter along the cove mouths along the outside trees. Truman is an excellent summer lake for crappie. Just remember that once you catch a couple on one tree, move to another one and don't camp out in one spot.
  5. DaddyO... sorry i'm to lazy to check out my maps tonight, but what does the Illinois run in to?
  6. Thanks Gavin! Being an avid float-fisherman of the areas effected, especially the Jacks Fork, I know exactly which alternative I favor and will be commenting on.
  7. LOTS of jet boats down there. Big party area as far as I remember. But, there's fish to be caught! Good luck!
  8. Flysmallie... you're welcome and believe me if you get the chance to take some days off to hit it down there mid-week... do it!
  9. Slabtown to Ross was great for years. I agree with some of the guys here. I have talked with a few locals around there and the fishing has gotten worse cause of the meat eaters. My last few trips have been terrible. Beautiful out of the way river the locals have just decimated. Also, I wouldn't go with Rich's... I'd go with Wilderness Ridge right next to 'em. But in the end... I won't fish the darn thing anymore until I here some good reports!
  10. Flysmallie... I float the Jacks Fork from Eminence to Two Rivers 3 or 4 times a year. It's an 8 mile trip. Averaging 4 miles a day allows me to fish hard and not miss any good holes. There's a bunch of great gravel bars to camp on too (perfect one on river left just past where Little Shawnee creek comes in on the right, there's a sign). I haven't been on the Current for a while cause I don't like the boats either. Watch for the wild horses along the river. I usually go mid-week and have virtually had the place to myself. Going down again sometime this month. Here's a few pics of my last trip down (last August). Call Anita down at Two Rivers if you need a river level report but from Alley down it's a great float year round. By the way... Alley down to Eminence is a beautiful trip too but I've always caught better fish from Eminence down (especially from Shawnee Creek down to Two Rivers, the last 3 miles. Good luck! 17 and a half incher just above Two Rivers Wild horses Rocky Creek southeast of Eminence. Neat place
  11. Beautiful Jacks Fork smallmouth! Can't beat their colors. Be there soon. Thanks for the pics!
  12. They were very nice people, always accomodating. I'm so sorry to hear about Connie. It was a bummer when they told us they were closing the business.
  13. Bryant Creek is a great float. Did it many times but it's been a while. All of my trips have been from the mill to Norfork. Great pics and glad you had a nice time! Are you familiar with the couple who owned "Abandoned River Ranch"?
  14. she was gonna make oneshot delete that video one way or another...
  15. Would've brought my radio, but I'd bet ol' Burt's still a heck of a shot with that crossbow!
  16. Doesn't sound like it's your pond... either way, MDC has brochures out on how to fix that problem. Give 'em a call or go online for remedies. Good luck to ya!
  17. I used to eat the fins too and they ARE just like potato chips. Tasty... don't know why I haven't done it for a while.
  18. If ya ask me... she's a gamer!
  19. Drove down to Neosho early Sunday morning. Met Buzz, Chief, and his son Dylan for a day of floating Indian Creek. I'm telling anyone on this forum... if you ever get a chance to spend a day on the water with these guys, take it. Don't miss out! They are great guys and I'm telling ya a lot of fun. There's some great scenery and fishing down there in extreme SW Missouri and they know all the spots. We didn't count numbers but I'm willing to guess at least 60 fish between us. Dylan was just spanking us! Chief will be posting his pics but I'll post the few I took too. Again, thanks guys and I'll see ya soon... KCRIVERRAT Chief with a Brownie; Dylan cleaned up at this hole... Buzz workin' it! Stopped at a beautiful long bluff for a shady break. Chief training Dylan to be the next Michael Phelps! Chief took some good fish pics...
  20. I'd probably forget my rod before those! See you guys Sunday...
  21. O.K. Bud... I'll be there. I've got a '04 black ford F-150 step side. That's what I still call'em. I'm gonna cut out of here at 4:30. I'll park at the outside edge of the parking lot so you can find me, or me you. Hey, I've seen pics of you two... I'll look for the buzzards circaling!
  22. Sounds great you guys. I'll pop up early Sunday and make that scenic cruise down good ol' 71! Where you wanna meet up at?
  23. Heck guys... anymore I drive 5 plus hours to fish my favorite river (Jacks Fork) and the last trip it took me and my river buddy 11 hours to float 3 and a half miles. Really nice fish in that stretch. If you guys are busy this weekend no problem. I could take the boat up to Mozingo. The crappie are on fire I here. Just let me know.
  24. Denjac... same thing happened to me on Roaring River outside of the park. At least the gal was cordial, but agitated. Tim from the fly shop responded to my post and said where I parked and waded up was a local swimming hole all summer. My in-laws lived on the lake by Viola until we moved them to Cassville three weeks ago. What part of Jenkins were your boys wading and is the smallmouth and goggleye fishing good? I've floated Flat Creek from the 39 bridge down to EE and did real good. Want to float from EE down to the lake sometime, figure there'd be some nice smallies that stretch. Give me a holler about Jenkins...
  25. Sculpin... I know this won't help much but I checked the USGS Streamflow website and the highest gauge reading I could tell was at Hazelgreen. MDC has river maps that'll tell you how far downstream Hazelgreen is from your put-in point. Hope you can make it and have a great time!
