  1. I am looking at visiting the Eleven Point in the near future. Before I do, I would like to request a little help from some of you guys who are familiar with the area. I would appreciate an answer to the following questions: Where are the boundaries of the Blue Ribbon area? What flies are recommended for this area? What are the prospects for dry flies on the Eleven Point? Thank you for any and all advice.
  2. I'm interested. would like to see some pics if possible please.
  3. This may make for an interesting opening day! We're planning on heading over tomorrow morning. I'm not concerned as I have seen the river drop almost as quickly as it rises. Also, it makes it more difficult for the bank stalkers to find the lunkers!!!
  4. Merry Christmas and may God prosper you and yours in the upcoming year.
  5. Tangerine McFly foam on a 1/80th oz. lead head. It's the bomb!!
  6. Loon Outdoors makes a product called Stanley's ice-off paste. I have used it for several years and it does work. I have found that for best results, repeated applications throughout the day are necessary, but it will keep ice out of your guides.
  7. I'm envious of you guys. I too, used to start and finish the season at Montauk. Time constraints prevent me from a closing day trip this year. However, I can hardly wait for the C & R season to begin.
  8. I wouldn't blame you for wanting to retire there. I stayed in Mammoth Lakes last fall and was fortunate enough to fish several prime waters. I especially loved McLeod lake in the basin. Well worth the short hike to fish there. I was surprised to see how few people actually fish in yosemite. Had a blast fishing a dry fly in the meadows one early evening.
  9. I was there Thursday afternoon and saw the jet boat as well. I hope the guy I saw wasn't a ranger as he was well on his way to working through his cooler full of beer. Fishing was pretty much ruined for an hour and a half after this genius muddied the water. Several people confronted him about this and replied he did this alot during the off season. I hope I never see him again there.
  10. I would also include some black and white midges in size 20.
  11. I'm not real sure about what the raw materials, but I prefer these decorations. I made several of them up last year for my fishing buddies with an enclosed note that read- "in case of fishing emergency, break glass".
  12. I've been using their fluoro tippet exclusively now for the past 2 years. In my opinon it is great stuff and you get more yardage per spool than with other brands.

Nice fish!!! There was a college tourney there last month sponsored by the FLW tour. I can tell you none of them did near that well!
  14. Love the C & R season! Tons of fish and usually small crowds. Any stocking info for the other parks as well?
  15. Why is it that people who do not own property think they have a right to someone else's? I deal with the same issue here every year during deer season. People used to come and ask permission to hunt and during bow season I let them. Now the philosophy is, it's better to ask forgiveness than permission. These clods give all sportsmen a bad name!!!
  16. I bought a new Hydros 4 piece 8.5 ft. 5 weight mid-flex earlier this year. I have owned several Orvis rods through the years and I can honestly say this is the best yet! It is incredibly light and I love the action. My fishing outings tend to be marathon sessions, so a light weight rod that casts easily all day is a priority. The Hydros is very easy on the arm even after a full day of fishing. I paired my Hydros with a Ross Evolution LT reel which is one of the lightest in its class. I am extremely pleased how well this combination works for me. As for whether they are worth the price, my vote is a resounding yes!! As a side note, I also purchased the new Orvis Access rod in a 6 weight and have been very satisfied with it's performance. You may also want to look at this model if money is a consideration.
  17. From my experience, most of them are probably stripping a crackleback. I have done this on several occasions and it can be extremely productive.
  18. Looks quite possibly to be a Heron strike?
  19. In all my years fishing Montauk, I've only caught a handful of browns inside the park. Only one of those was a lunker. This time of year, however, is prime for browns trying to move upstream and get closer to a spring source. I must admit that the catching of multiple lunkers such as these should raise a few eyebrows if anyone at MDC is watching.
  20. Like many other fads- this too shall pass!!
  21. I use Seal Skinz. Make sure you get the chill blocker model as they are insulated. i have fished in them all the way down to 5 above and never had any issues with cold fingers. Look for a pair on Ebay and save some money.
  22. Beautiful fish!! Thanks for sharing.
  23. I agree with Chris. I tried several brands of fluorocarbon including Frog Hair. I didn't have much luck with any of them. Last fall, when I was in Feather-Craft, I picked up a spool of their fluoro in 6X. I was extremely pleased how well my knots held and by the strength. The fact that you get twice as much as the leading competitor for about half the price didn't hurt either.
  24. Reliable info and great pics!! I'm thankful they have kept the report going all these years.
  25. A bad day fishing is still a great day. Looks like you had a great day despite the weather.
