  1. All I know is I watched a couple FLW tournaments lately and out of the final 20 guys in 2 tournaments 19 of them were throwing the 5 bait A-Rig. Saying you are outfishing 1 guide with 10 rods out doesn't mean you are outfishing the other 19 guides with 10 rods out fishing elsewhere. If one guy fishes 20 points with 1 bait and the next guy fishes those same 20 points with 5 baits who has a better chance of catching fish...20 vs 100.
  2. Well it is always about where you fish...no matter how good the A-Rig is you can't catch fish in a bath tub. BUT at the same time it is a numbers game as well and the more hooks you have in the water the more opportunities to catch fish especially with how good the graphs are these days. I don't fish tournaments so I don't really care but there is a big difference between 2 guys standing side by side on the front deck with 10 baits out vs 2 guys throwing single grubs especially if fish are in schools.
  3. Well they could just troll 6 A-Rigs out the back of the boat with 30 baits in the water and I am sure they would catch a ton of fish and have big sacks also...still doesn't make it very sporting
  4. After fishing with the A-Rig myself it is my opinion that it doesn't belong in any tournaments unless someone uses 1 hooked bait and "dumbies" around it. Having 3, 5, 6 or 10 times the opportunity to catch a fish is just ridiculous. One-rod one-bait...just my opinion and I don't fish any tournaments these days.
  5. Does anyone remember the cow some guy caught in the Fin and Feather tournament several years ago? My guess would be right before the fish kill and the guy caught it on a deep crank off the bridge at Bridgeport. It was in the 10-11 range but I don't remember exactly. That was the biggest bass I have ever seen around here and if caught at a different time she was a state record.
  6. Winds were 40+ the other night around here
  7. I am just excited to roll into some cove this spring and see some guy flipping an A-Rig at a bedding fish Concerning the topic I am fine with the ban and it really should be one bait one rod when fishing for money IMO
  8. There are a few big ones around down there
  9. Alright I will throw a wart this weekend Great report and looking back on some of my previous years journals I had some of my best days on a wart in mid 40's water temps. I love crawling that thing on the bottom and it feeling like a leaf is on it only to see that big green flash down in the water. Time to spool some 8lb test on the ole cranking sticks and see what happens this weekend.
  10. Water above 55 I throw 10lb Trilene XT mono...below 55 I switch to 8lb Seaguar Fluro
  11. Saw a guy in a white/red Ranger throwing the 5 bait A Rig around State Park area the other day. Some people are going to get in trouble with that this Spring.
  12. I am one of those strange guys who works on things and doesn't worry about how many I catch. I had 1 rod on deck all day last trip and just kept throwing a jerkbait. I haven't taken my cranking sticks out of the box all Fall but I know they work especially since 3 spots I caught the other day were spitting up craws. I might just throw a wart all day next trip for something different.
  13. Fished Aunts Creek yesterday from 9-3 and caught 8...but caught 5 of those in about 8 cast off one stretch of docks. Just threw a shad pattern jerkbait all day.
  14. I have been throwing a sexy shad pattern that I painted but not sure it matters late in the day. Yesterday was the same deal for me...caught 4 from 11-3 and then 13 from 3-5
  15. I have been catching them pretty decent on jerkbait myself but the best bite has been from 3-5 in the afternoon...back 1/3 of creeks around swings with timber. I haven't been able to get on the main lake or bay fish all Fall but the creek bite has been steady for me. Here and there from 10-3 and then catching them really good until dark.
  16. Some blade and jerkbait but last weekend I wore them out on a swimbait. They were suspending and chasing bait in creek channel bends around 15-25ft and they were suspending down enough I couldn't catch them on anything but the swimbait. Last trip I caught 11 of the 17 on a jerkbait, 3 on a blade and 3 on swimbait. Headed down again today but I think I am going to the Mill Creek area and doing some day/night action.
  17. I got down there around 11:30 yesterday and it was tough until around 3...only caught 3 from 11:30 to 3 and then caught 14 from 3-5. Once the wind got up they started biting pretty good. Nothing big but several in the 2.5 range. The last 3 trips for me they have really started to bite the last hour before dark...last weekend it was stupid how many I caught in the back Indian right before dark.
  18. If I would have picked up the jerkbait quicker my numbers would have been much higher but I was fooled by catching a 3lb+ brownie on my 5th cast of the day on a blade I kept throwing it until until 3pm only catching 2 more...caught 6 on a jerkbait the last hour and half. Looking back on my day I fished 22 holes just running around trying to find something and probably had a dozen other bites I didn't hook up with mostly on a blade.
  19. Went down yesterday from 11-4:30 and caught a few. Decided to give the Indian Point area another try and those fish still have me confused. I managed to catch 9 on a blade (3) and jerkbait (6) but never caught 2 fish in the same area and caught fish on different stuff...cedars, hardwoods, chunk, pea gravel, point, etc. The ones I caught just hammered it but couldn't find a group of fish to really get the numbers up and burned more gas than normal running to numerous holes. Still great to be down there and good to read some reports about fish being caught.
  20. Didn't throw any cranks but I am sure they will hit it...if I can catch fish on a blade I usually don't put it down except on my 2nd or 3rd passes. I was throwing a ghost shad pattern that I painted...just a splash back gray and bone color with pink underneath.
  21. Very nice report and glad to see she is coming around...
  22. Hard jerkbait and I am ripping pretty it quick for a reaction bite...no pause really and most bites are very shallow. I usually have a jerkbait on deck from 65 and below but I did take this guy fishing once in August and I watched him catch 4 good ones on a firetiger jerkbait up river...something I would never have believed if I didn't see it. One thing I do this time of year is if I get a few bites on a blade I will turn around with jerkbait...if they swipe at it I have a better chance to hook up.
  23. Finally got something going on Sunday. I fished around the Joe Bald area from 12 to 6 and caught 19 (12 spots and 7blacks) including 11 keepers that were just keepers. I caught 12 on a blade and 7 on a jerkbait and had a flury from 1 to 2 where I caught 9 but had to work before and after. Just nice to get up into double digits.
  24. Honestly, I usually don't have much company most Novembers/Decembers so I haven't noticed much of a change in that. I think I saw 3 bass boats yesterday but last year they were biting like crazy and I didn't see many especially during the week which is when I like to fish most of the time.
  25. Well, you would think so but all I caught was 4 (3 smallmouth and 1 black) and had 4 other bites. All 4 were decent keeper fish...caught 2 on a blade and 2 on a jerkbait. I haven't seen many Novembers this tough in my 30yrs of fishing trock but I will keep swinging hoping it breaks loose eventually.
