All I can say is WOW, this is awesome Bill, thank you so very much! I've fished those areas of Kennel Branch and point 7 for bass during my previous trips/stays at LL, so I'm familiar with them. Same with Cow and Little Cow. Also, thanks for the clarification of "mid lake". I guess I always assumed the areas between Aunt's and Indian Point were considered mid lake, but looking at the map now I can definitely see where you're saying it is makes more sense. At the end of the day I just want to be sure my wonderful better half catches fish and has fun. You know the old saying, "Happy fiancé, happy me".... or something like that! 😉 And if I do some catching too, that's just a bonus.

Honestly, I think she'd be perfectly fine catching a mess of bluegill, if we happened upon some.

It's safe to say I'm probably not better at it than you! I've fished for crappie at Mark Twain and few other small lakes, but never TRL. When I was at TRL back in April for a week of bass fishing, we hit Schooner Creek, which isn't too far from where we're staying. And like I said, I'm not opposed to motoring a bit, say towards Joe Bald, Aunt's Creek, etc. Just didn't want to go too far, if possible. Thanks!!

I know the vast majority of posts and discussions here center around bass, but the fiancé and I are heading down this Friday (5/23) for a few days and she is very much NOT into bass fishing. She would much rather crappie fish with a light rod, bobber, etc. We are staying at Lazy Lee's, which is mid-lake and very close to Coney Island. Wondering what spots on the lake are good this time of year for crappie fishing, and if live bait like crickets or nightcrawlers would be best, or just go with crappie jigs, etc. I don't mind motoring for a bit to some decent spots, but would prefer to stay within a few miles of the resort, if possible. Thanks much in advance for any help/tips provided!!

1000%... thanks Bill!

I put in at the Hwy 107 ramp, which according to my map looks to be very close to Shell Branch. Did a little pleasure cruising with the girlfriend first, and then put lines in the water. Wasn't nearly as crowded as I was expecting, so that was good! Despite not catching much, it was a great day on the water... at least until the rains came! 😉

I have an 18' G3 Gator Tough with a 90hp Yamaha. Put in around 9:30am at the Hwy 107 ramp. Very little activity on the ramp at that time, and the lot was maybe 1/4 full. Water was a bit choppy, but not bad until the rains hit around 3pm'ish. Being so new to MTL I really didn't have a feel for where to fish. So didn't do too well. Caught a couple whites and a couple short bass, all on a crank bait. All in all, a great day on the water!

Well, I missed my head examination appointment, so gave it a go anyway. Up and back on Memorial Day. Put in at the Hwy 107 ramp about 9:30am. Lot was maybe 1/4 full. One other boat launching while I was, two others pulling out when I was. Saw very few big boats, mostly fishing boats, pontoons and jet skiers. I've experienced worse on Table Rock. Overall, and until the rain it, it was a great day on the water.

It doesn't appear this particular forum gets much action, but thought I'd give it a shot anyway. My girlfriend and I are wanting to take a day trip this weekend (from St. Louis) to MTL. What public access/ramps would you recommend? Also, any insight and tips on fishing for bass or crappie would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!!

You're clearly one hell of a fighter, and when it comes to our children, most of us will fight to the end! I'm happy for you that things have turned for the better, and that you're back in the fishing - and dad - game! All the best to you and your son!!

We've stayed at Holiday Hideaway (in Aunt's Creek) for about the last ten years. They have a couple boats they rent to guests. https://holidayhideaway.com/ Previous owners (Sue and Carl) sold it recently, and the new owners are just as nice!

My sincere condolences to Mr. Beck's family and many friends... RIP Mr. Beck.

Me and five buddies come to TRL every year for our annual fishing trip (this year it's next week, 3/28-4/2) and we stay at Holiday Hideaway in Aunts Creek. Sue and Carl are two of the nicest folks you'll ever want to meet. They have a couple boats that they rent, and if unavailable I believe they can get one from one of the other Aunts Creek Association member resorts. We love the place, and it's priced right for us!! http://www.holidayhideaway.com/

When swimming it, do you 'scrub' the bottom? And is it a slow, steady retrieve, or varied (slow, then fast, stops, starts)?

Thanks Muddy! I found the Dirt color by Strike King, they have it in their Zero bait.
-
I only use cut ZinkerZ, and the only two colors I have in my bag are green pumpkin and PB&J. But I've seen many posts about the color "Dirt"... Is Dirt slang for the actual name? And is it made by Z-Man, or is it another brand? Thanks!

Or Please Release by Sure-Life, or Catch and Release Calming Livewell Additive??

Happy birthday Bill!

Absolutely agree with all that has been said... I ordered some Ned heads last Thursday, they came in the mail yesterday. And they look awesome! Can't wait to use them when I get down to the Rock on the 7th. Thanks Dave!!!

This happens to be every single year... I mean, it can't possibly be me, right?? -
Hey T... a couple years ago we moved our trip up from early May to early April due to some family commitments and decided to just keep it at this time every year, at least for a while. As for the BASS guys, we'll just have to do our best to share the lake and hopefully they leave us a fish or three. Good luck at LOZ and when your group makes down to Table Rock!

Haha... see, that's the kind of help I knew I could count on from techo... Thanks!!

Hi All, I know there are a few on here (no names, you know who you are) who claim there are no fish in Aunts Creek, but our annual trip is this week, Tuesday through Sunday, so was hoping to get some input on where "not" to fish. We don't mind going a few miles in either direction from Aunts Creek, but was thinking more along the lines of types of banks to focus on, depth to keep boat in when fishing toward the bank, main lake points versus secondary points, etc. Thanks! PS... Danger (Mike) is one awesome guy... Will (hopefully) provide pics of what we catch with some of the goodies he sent me! Thanks again, Mike!!!

Now that's funny right there... Didn't hit the water until about 5pm today, fished until 7... Threw an a-rig for a while, also a wiggle wart and a jerkbait. Had a few hits, but couldn't bring anything to the boat. I've been here when the weather's been better, but it beats work! Will use as much of the advice on here as possible and get back at it tomorrow. Thanks all! Tom

Sorry Berk, I retract my previous post. Mr. Babler clearly states they started in Aunts Creek in his report... I think I need to pay closer attention next time!
