  1. Carp... ahh.. I broke a good 9'6" 5wt 2pc Penn IM6 rod on a 20+lb'er ... right in front of a carload of people at a local golf course pond. Fell right on my butt when the rod snapped... and they snickered at me.. ugh - my pride. Although they are not easy by any means.. sometimes they are not smart -- like brook trout. Catch them feeding just right and be prepared for a serious tackle tussle. Landing them is the real battle. Funny thing is - I have caught them on dry flies... over 15lbs on a dry White Miller mayfly size 10. I have witnesses but no pictures, and that was at night. I do know them to take clousers and crayfish patterns.. I have caught them by accident on T/R while smallmouth fishing deep. Reynolds has a neat book about Carp on the Fly. I read half of it and got far to excited to complete it.
  2. I have a 9'6" 5wt.. if you are interested. Not an 8.. but it'll handle a 7. GLoomis IMX - partially built-handle assembled.
  3. Those browns look kinda skinny to me... big heads, fins and tails.. but no girth. Any ideas ?
  4. Sorry I missed you Drew. We'll be fishing together next time. Water is currently running - 0 units.. 915.1 lake level tailwater level - 701.8 when did they shut it down ?? for it to be so low now.. shut down at 10pm ?
  5. I use the same Thompson Model A vise I have been tying on for about 10 years. Only replaced the standard jaws once... not bad for $45. (plus 10 for the replacement jaw) Just depends if you want stationary or rotary.
  6. I sure hope you wouldn't mind fishing high water as well. edit - 5am Wed, I will add more later today. Brian
  7. That extra stuff is for you... as a gesture of thanks. Thanks!
  8. That is fascinating... I dug up a game cam picture from Jan 12 of last year out of Chesterfield, MO : That would scare the poop right out of me if I saw those eyes at night on Taneycomo, or anywhere for that matter.
  9. Mine should get there to you today...
  10. Sounds like you had a darn good day! Holler at me next time you go.
  11. You can post pictures here of the rod to help sell your item. Also the reel. As a collector of old Medalists.. does it have the round line guard ? Metal latch cap ? Brian
  12. You can do a quick touch up.... with the full intention of rewrapping the guide a little later. I have used Sally's Hard As Nails in a pinch...
  13. check the Cabelas CGR.. its just good old classic glass / reintroduced.. for the same price
  14. Wow.. thats a smaller'ish reel... but I believe I can find something for you.. or recommend something perfect. Shoot me a PM or email me directly. Brian ps.. i catch a ton of bass and carp here locally on trout fly gear... its a hoot!
  15. Dang.. I sold my truck thru OAF with the magnetic bumber sticker attached.... :-( Where are the OAF bumper stickers on the site ?? those are double sweet

  17. Nice fish Matt - wonder which sculpin pattern you got that on... I'll see you on the river and ask.
  18. Did you happen to fish a tubing midge ?
  19. PM'ing you the recipe now. I forgot to include shipping like a total dummy.. but I threw in enough hooks to cover your expenses.
  20. Since the flood(s)... what do you guys think of the upper end ? Has the introduction of the rocks been noticeable for you ? Does it still still fish the same ? Curious to know what you guys think.
  21. Very nice... envious.....
  22. if only we could be so lucky to get a guy like either one....
  23. I'm gonna catch some flack over this... but to me it looks like a passing fad. A fly rod with no reel and line that only is as long as the rod ??? what ... ? The Japanese and their tiny fish can keep this technique.
  24. Mark mine down as tied as well.. and a sizeable unexpected bonus will be going to the Swapmeister, mic! You had a good idea.. and great timing.. can't wait for the next one !
